Skyler Jones sat down next to Marie with a newspaper in his hand. Like Marie, he had taken a day off today and didn’t go to the company.
"Daddy, can I ask Mommy why she didn’t co back when I see her later?" Marie asked in a pitiful tone.
Looking at the newspaper, Skyler answered, "Didn’t you already know? Your mommy is angry with ."
"But she’s been angry for several months now, and Mommy isn’t petty."
"Well, you’ll have to ask her when she gets back."
"Daddy, is it because you and Mommy have divorced that she’s left you?"
Skyler put down the newspaper, looking seriously at his daughter, "Daddy promises you, Daddy and Mommy haven’t divorced!"
Marie let out a long breath, "Then I’m relieved. I was so afraid you two would hide your divorce from ..."
Skyler chuckled and suddenly felt interested, with a smile, he asked his daughter, "Marie, if Daddy doesn’t want a divorce, but Mommy does, what should Daddy do?"
"Well, do you love Mommy?"
"Uh... yes."
Marie shot her father a look, "Then why hasn’t Daddy told Mommy sooner?"
Marie’s question left Skyler stunned.
Marie mumbled, "Mommy left and only then did Daddy think of being with her, that doesn’t prove Daddy loves Mommy."
"Does Mommy think the sa way?"
"I don’t understand adult matters... but no matter what, I still hope Daddy and Mommy can be together."
"So, if Daddy wants to pursue Mommy now, would you help ?"
Marie straightened her posture and said seriously, "I won’t help... I don’t want Daddy and Mommy to be together forcibly because of , unless you truly have feelings for each other."
Skyler raised an eyebrow, "Really won’t help?"
Marie turned her face aside, "Absolutely not, it’s your fault for angering Mommy away! I want to respect Mommy’s decision!"
Just as Skyler was about to educate Marie with a fatherly stance —
"Mr. Jones, the lady has returned."
The servant joyfully ran into the hall.
Hearing this, Marie bolted out of the hall.
Skyler stood up, looking towards the villa entrance.
Christine Quinn stepped out of a white car, without luggage but carrying a handbag.
Marie had already rushed out the villa door and tightly hugged Christine Quinn...
Christine’s handbag was taken by the servant. She hugged Marie tightly, her eyes moist.
The mother and daughter warmly chatted for a while, then Marie held Christine’s hand, walking towards the villa.
Skyler watched Christine from afar.
She looked in good spirits and no longer as frail as before, indicating that Jonathon Gibson had taken good care of her.
Seeing her speaking energetically, it seed she had regained her old sharp wit.
Good!
Marie’s voice interrupted Skyler’s thoughts.
At this mont, Marie and Christine walked into the hall together.
"Mommy, I thought you didn’t want anymore..."
"Silly, Mommy told you I was just going abroad for a while..."
"But Daddy went to find you, and you wouldn’t co back with him."
"That’s because... because Mommy was delayed by so things, but now Mommy is back, isn’t she?"
Marie wrapped her arms tightly around Christine, "Mommy, I won’t allow you to leave again..."
Christine kissed her daughter’s hair, "Mommy won’t."
The butler happily said from the side, "Madam, are you hungry? Shall I have sothing prepared for you?"
Christine smiled at the butler, "Uh, I’m not hungry. I’ve already eaten lunch."
"Alright, then I’ll have soone prepare dinner."
"Okay."
The butler retreated happily.
Only then did Christine notice the tall figure in front of the sofa.
Seeing her parents exchanging looks, Marie sensibly said to Christine, "Mommy, I’m going to get my recent test papers for you to see, another perfect score!"
Christine shifted her gaze away from Skyler, smiled at Marie, "Okay."
Marie then grabbed the servant in the hall and left, leaving Skyler and Christine alone.
With a faint smile on her face, Christine took the initiative to greet Skyler, "Hi."
Skyler walked up to Christine.
Dressed casually, he looked much younger, without his usual stiffness and rigor.
He spoke slowly, "You look like you’ve recovered quite well."
Christine smiled faintly and nodded, "Yes, I feel pretty good... the doctor told living past three months was a miracle."
"You’ll recover gradually."
"I think so too... I no longer feel the heart pains I used to, and many tis I feel like I’m already a normal person. Plus, the doctors also told , my chances of recovering are high, as I haven’t shown any signs of rejection since the surgery."
"Hmm."
"I have to thank you... I heard the three doctors on the island were arranged by you. Having them there made feel assured."
Skyler replied gently, "It was no trouble."
"Thank you."
A layer of formality suddenly arose between them.
Not wanting the awkward atmosphere to persist, Skyler changed the topic, "By the way, did you tell Becca about your return?"
"Yes, I already called her. She was very happy to know my health is fine and said she wants to fly to Y City imdiately to see ."
"Howard Geoffrey wouldn’t allow it, right?"
"Of course not; she’s over eight months pregnant now, about to give birth. How could Howard let her run around? I’m planning to go to New York next month to see her and hold her little princess."
"Hmm."
"There’s sothing else I want to tell you..."
"Go ahead."
After a few seconds of internal struggle, Christine said, "Did you sign the divorce agreent I gave you?"
Skyler remained unchanged in expression, "Are you really planning to divorce ?"
"I made it very clear on the island."
"Think it over a bit longer."
"I don’t need to think anymore. I’ve already decided."
"Marie will be disappointed."
"I know, but she’s an understanding child."
Skyler didn’t say anything more.
