The room was full of incense smoke and nervousness. Yang Qing’s breath left him as he saw Li Gang open his noble, sculpted, shifty mouth.

"What the owner of said Resting Root Spirit Oak requires is one of these," said Li Gang, pausing in dramatic fashion to ensure he had fully captured everybody’s attention, even though there was no need for it. The Resting Root Spirit Oak tree had done that perfectly well by itself with its iridescent, tender leaves and young shoots.

"They want either two hundred low-tier blue-grade pills or potions capable of treating and guarding against miasma capable of killing a Palace Realm expert.

If you don’t have the two hundred, then alternatively, fifty middle-tier blue-grade pills or potions would do, or two of the top tier," Li Gang explained. His explanation was t by a few grunts of disgruntlent from the crowd, of which Yang Qing was counted among them, even though his murmurs of dissatisfaction were hidden beneath the layers of the sound isolation array in his VVIP room.

"It just had to be the pills and potions I never go for," he muttered in frustration as he sent a furious glare in the direction of the lit-up incense sticks, seriously questioning their luck-bringing ability. From the looks of it, they seed to bring more curse than luck.

Why did it have to be miasma detoxification pills and potions as the first thing being asked for?

The Order, for all its stingy history and default nature, was actually pretty generous with its provision of cultivation pills and potions.

For reasons unknown to Yang Qing, he realized that the Order found it easier to hand out fifty middle-tier pills or potions of varied uses every month to its mbers than it was to, let’s say, increase the salary of their overworked but still diligent employee by even a asly one hundred spirit stones.

As such, Yang Qing’s storage ring and abode were littered with countless pills and potions. But because his physique and his Dao granted him an overpowered immunity to miasma and things of a poisonous nature, of the pills and potions assigned to him (since they had a choice), he never went for detoxifying pills and potions. They were surplus to his needs, given his natural immunity.

Even ones that restored spent spiritual qi, he didn’t bother taking, given his large qi capacity and the unnatural speed with which he could absorb or regenerate it within his body, which again was thanks to his physique and also his purple-grade art.

Truth be told, even the pills and potions he was given—it wasn’t that he needed them, if he was being perfectly honest. He only took them because the petty, vindictive, hoarding side of him wouldn’t feel right if he helped the Order cut costs. If they were giving it out for free, he would most definitely take it, if only just for the satisfaction of knowing every ti he did, it cost the Order sothing.

Maybe that was why, because they were given a choice on what type of pills or potions they wanted, he always went for flavor rather than functionality. The best-tasting ones were what he went for, which, unfortunately, ant (though Yang Qing couldn’t care less), he always ended up with pills and potions that had weird effects or could be outright considered useless by so, like the potion that allows the body to dendrify and turn into a tree.

It was great for ditation. It also enhanced the spiritual sense and allowed one to absorb spiritual qi better. But it also left one exposed, because once dendrified, you could not move your body for at least three hours. You could forcibly interrupt the effects of the potion and turn your body back to normal, but you would be heavily disoriented when you broke form, and your body would not feel like your own. You would feel like you had taken over soone else’s body. Then there were also the qi channels that would experience the sa dissonance.

If you were attacked, it was safer to maintain the dendrified form than it was to cancel out the potion’s effects, because at least in the dendrified form, you had a sturdy bark capable of taking a beating. Your regeneration would be similar to that of a spiritual tree, and you still had access to your spells and arts. You just needed to be adaptable enough to use the body of a tree to execute them. And because you were a tree, you could not exactly flee easily, given you were every bit a tree in every essence, including being anchored to one place.

As such, given the cons it had, not many people liked that potion. Yang Qing was about one of the few who actually used it and requisitioned it every month, and for him, he did it more for its flavor than anything else.

Though after experiencing its effects, he grew to appreciate it. If you were not using it outside and were instead using it in the comfort of your ho (where it was safe, protected by dense layers of security that included powerful cultivators), then you could afford to ignore the cons.

Its ability to allow easy ditation was one of the most powerful effects in that area that Yang Qing has ever experienced. Of course, typical of him, he once again misappropriated that particular effect and used its ability to relax and still the mind to get one of the best sleeps he has ever had. It also had the miraculous ability to drown out all outside noise and interruptions, like you were hibernating, which made it excellent for ignoring Yang Shitong and his foul mouth.

It was for those features that Yang Qing made a habit of using it during his yearly assigned seclusion days, which were usually three months every year, where Order employees could wholly focus on their cultivation and nothing else. He’d use the potion to go into "secluded ditation" for an entire month to wash away the fatigue of that entire year.

Just thinking about it made his fingers feel twitchy, jonesing for a quick sip.
