Rebarlo took out the item, sothing that looked like a calice. That wasn’t what caught Rean’s attention, though. Instead, it was the dark aura emanating from it. "Hum? This is not Dark Elent... Death Energy? Feels like it, although not entirely."
"Oh!" Rebarlo was happy Rean couldn’t tell that much. "Yes, it is Death Energy, but this treasure has changed it."
Rean took a closer look. The calice wasn’t intact. It was broken in half. He extended his hand, sending so Light Elent and Divine Energy into it. The many runes on the calice finally showed themselves, and Rean understood why Rebarlo wanted his help. "I see... these inscriptions are indeed very similar to the ones I use on my weapons. You would be hard-pressed to find this kind of approach just anywhere."
Zangeshu also looked at the Calice from within the Dinsional Realm. ’Master, is this...’
’Yes,’ Rean confird before Zangeshu could finish his words. ’It collects the souls to charge itself. It kind of reminds of the Pseudo-Temporal Path Formations used in this Universe, which require the sacrifice of living beings.’
Whether Rean wanted it or not, his weapons had Roan’s influence. Roan used Dark Elent, and due to its purity, it was highly compatible with Death Energy as well. Of course, for Roan, it was still better to focus on his Dark Elent alone. He had no need to tap on Death Energy, especially since you need, you guessed, dead souls.
Going back to the calice, the inscriptions were compatible with those Rean used on his weapons. Since Zangeshu learned forging from Rean, he obviously carried the sa school of thought and crafting. Thus, it caught Rebarlo’s attention, and he ca out to ask for help.
Rean looked at Rebarlo, speaking. "What do you intend to use it for?"
Rebarlo already expected that question. "This is a key, but it is broken, and I need it fixed. Don’t worry, I’m ready to pay you handsoly for the fix. Above all, I need you to keep it a secret, and I’m willing to pay more for that. It has to be fate for to find soone capable of fixing this after I almost gave up."
Rean’s mouth twitched. Did he say fate?
’That damn Destiny Attraction shit...’
Of course, Rean didn’t let it show on his face. "I’m guessing you won’t tell what it can open, now will you?"
"I will not," Rebarlo obviously wouldn’t talk about it. Only he knows what he had to go through to acquire this calice. "That’s also why I’m not worried you might try to steal it. I’m the only one who knows where it can be used, so for anyone else, it is as useful as a paperweight. Maybe a real paperweight would be better, as it doesn’t need to be this big."
They weren’t enemies, so Rean wouldn’t just attack the guy and force him to spill the beans. Still, it bothered him since he knew this guy would need dead souls to make the calice work. "I will not do it."
Yet, Rebarlo’s eyes lit up when he heard that. Why? Because Rean said he wouldn’t help Rebarlo. Rean didn’t say he couldn’t do it. Rebarlo has been looking for soone who could fix it, and he had been for many years. No one seed to know how to get this thing back together at all.
"What do I need to do to make you change your mind?" Rebarlo insisted. He couldn’t lose that chance. "As long as you don’t ask what and where I can use it, anything can be discussed. From your answer, you definitely know how to put it back together."
Rean shook his head as he pointed and looked at the calice. "I do know how to fix it. Well, it isn’t 100% guaranteed, but I’m at least 90% sure. However, that is not the issue. I can see it. This thing would need the souls of hundreds of thousands of individuals to accumulate enough death energy to work."
Rean’s eyes left the calice, focusing on Rebarlo. "I will not be the reason for the death of so many innocents. Even if you could make beco a god, I would still not do it."
Rebarlo was truly shaken by Rean’s words. Then why is Rean in this Universe? Everyone cos here exactly because of how easy it is to acquire test subjects, and Rebarlo was no different. By sacrificing the mind taken beings, he could fulfill the calice with necessary death energy, and no one would complain. "Aren’t you in the wrong place?"
Rean narrowed his eyes. "Perhaps. But I don’t intend to stay for much longer anyway. Farewell."
"Wait, wait, wait!" Rebarlo quickly got up and blocked Rean’s path. Of course, he didn’t try to force Rean to stay. They were both in the Space-Ti Realm, and if he attacked, it would attract a lot of attention he didn’t want. "As long as no one is killed to get the necessary Death Energy, you won’t mind fixing it for . Is that correct?"
Rean didn’t expect that question. Death energy requires dead souls; that’s what he always believed. Roan’s master, Kafan, used Death Energy himself with the souls of the dead back in the Lisan Universe and even created an organization to collect that. But then, it dawned on Rean. "You have contacts with the underworld, don’t you?"
Rebarlo sighed in relief. "Yes, I do. I didn’t want to use this thod since it is expensive, but at this point, I’m ready for anything."
There was another way of doing that without killing anyone. Simply go to the underworld and catch the dead souls on their way to the reincarnation path. It didn’t really make much of a difference since once dead, all mories would be wiped out, the soul itself transford into pure soul energy, and a new soul would be created out of it in ti.
The only exceptions would be the souls of high-level experts. They are able to brand their souls to prevent the mories from being lost even after the reformation of the soul, but such experts were few and far between. In fact, that would be the real mory-keeping reincarnation, and as far as Rean rembered, reincarnation didn’t exist in the Werdlem Empire for so reason. It was even stated in the Werdlem Network itself.
"Besides," Rebarlo continued, "I do believe you will help now that I ntioned it."
"Yeah? Why?" Rean asked back, an indifferent expression on his face.
"Because you would be saving a lot of souls in this Universe. Suppose you refuse , but then I find soone else to fix the calice. At that mont, I will not use the Underworld at all. I will definitely use the mind taken living beings of this Universe instead, since it is easier," Rebarlo explained with a smile.
Rean’s expression didn’t change, but he definitely didn’t like to be blackmailed. "You are pushing your luck, friend."
"If that ans I can get the calice fixed, I won’t mind using all the luck I still have in my life." Rebarlo didn’t take Rean’s words to heart.
"Fine." Finally, Rean nodded. "But I’m not cheap. Give that shit."
