It was dark and cold, and it felt like nothing was around . I couldn't figure out where I was exactly, but it was soothing.
A skeletal hand reached out from the darkness and held mine, a familiar voice spoke, and the darkness slowly faded to reveal a adow filled with withered flowers, and fields of black grass covered the landscape. The river nearby was blood red and boiling, killing anything that fell inside.
Across the river was a line of what seed to be spirits slowly walking towards a swelling vortex of darkness. Pillars of great length were spread throughout the visible land. Neon purple pulsing glows outlined the black pillars, and atop them were chains that connected the pillars.
Beside sat Death on her knees, holding my hand. She wore her purple robe, having her hair hooded always. She stared into my eyes with her purple glowing eyes that showed that she had a soul. "How long will you be here for?" she asked. She was worried and upset. She knew the answer to that question herself.
She didn't want to utter a word because I had no mouth to speak with.
Looking across the river, she felt pity for the souls that walked dreadfully towards the gates of the afterlife. "They are all so weary and dreadful, yet their destination is sweet. I take them to the gates, but here I am sitting by your side. I have my duty to fulfil. However, when you co here, fill up with joy and abandon my task only for a little while before you leave once more." She spoke bitterly.
I could feel the heaviness in each word, sorrowful, and yet she hoped to be with . She knew the pain and still chose to love . I am of another, knowledgeable of this fact, she still chose to love , and only my power separates her from .
How could she torture herself this way? Then it ca to that the won I know feel the sa way as she does. How could I be the source of their pain and their joy at once?
Death pointed across the river at a woman; she was familiar. She called her na 'Veronicah,' and she appeared before .
My limbs could not move, and I could only look around.
She stood before , then fell to her knees. Tears stread down her beautiful face; her face was riddled with sadness. Her hand was placed on her chest, and the words of defeat were uttered from her mouth into my ears. They were sharp words and struck deep as if a sword was thrust through my body.
The pain in those words showed her devotion to aid and the others. "I have failed you, master!" she cried out.
Everyday Death confronts this, and she understands what it ans to love this way. She had learnt that lesson herself after all, and yet she continued to pursue .
"Your friends need your help, my love. They don't have much ti! Hurry and awaken yourself!" she cried.
My eyes felt light, and I had opened them. I found myself in a contraption similar to the one I had been in two years ago. I used my right hand to force open the door, and I succeeded.
I found myself in an unfamiliar place, a lot of tech and equipnt I lay my eyes on first as I sat upright. I looked around and saw different guns, weapons, and armour. 'Where could I be?' I thought in my head.
The mory of a pain I had forgotten kicked in sharply in my left arm. Looking down at the arm muscle tissue, which was regenerating on my fingers, my arm already had skin on it, but my hand was still in the process. I ignored the pain and got out of the bed.
My stability was recovering, and so I fell on the floor. I groaned through the pain as I stood up. There were multiple boxes stacked up, but the main takeaway was the military equipnt. The building I found myself in was large, but it wasn't a warehouse. It was too small to be such.
Then the garage door opened up hurriedly, and a soldier ran inside the building, screaming for help. He was snatched back outside, and a terrible screech could be heard. A demon nonetheless grabbed him and began feasting. The squelching sounds of flesh being torn and the breaking of bones made rember the number of people I had lost.
Rushing out, I pulled out my gun and shot the demon in the head, killing it. I looked at the soldier and quickly got down to heal him. His throat was bit off, along with his chest being open, and he was missing a leg and an arm.
A few minutes later, after I had healed him, he returned to consciousness. Back in the storage building, which I had learnt was the base of operations, the soldier had told that Mynde and the others went back into the city after receiving a distress call about mutated demons attacking the city. They had co out of The Harlem's corporate building almost an hour after we had left.
I had been placed inside the F.R.I after losing consciousness and blood from my body. I took two hours inside healing, and he and another soldier were to watch over . They had been attacked during that ti, and then he beca a demon lunch.
Comprehending the situation, I instructed him to remain behind and hold the fort if he could, while I set off back into the city to kill these demons.
Inside the building, after looking around for fresh clothes, a wheel caught my attention. There was a tarp on top of what the wheel was attached to. Taking it off, a motorbike was under it. It wasn't just any motorbike; it was my motorbike from years before the Downti City incident.
Riding back into the city, demons were attacking civilians who were running away for their lives. I used one of my guns and shot the demons. So died from one shot, others took a bit more. A large demon moved onto the street, and a couple of shots didn't take it down. I then stood on the bike as it was moving and used the montum to jump off and use my sword to decapitate the demon.
Using its body, I launched myself into the air before falling back on my bike and riding further into the city.
A kilotre into the city from that area, and even encountering a few more on the way, I made it back to the corporate building deep in the corporate sector. More demons and a few demonic beasts were attacking the demons. Holding them back were soldiers, using their guns and firing at them. The beasts had killed and were killed, and the number of soldiers there was underwhelming. I couldn't bla them; many of them were killed, and only a few were left.
Though I couldn't see Mynde and the others.
One of them was pounced on by a demon, and I rushed toward them. "Fuck!" he scread. I killed the demons by slashing them, but he lost flesh.
There was a lot of debris around the area from the nearby building, and cars were used in the process as weapons by the demonic beasts. One hit a car and sent it flying. It landed on one of the soldiers, flattening them.
I looked back at the one I stood by. "Where is General Mynde?" I asked. He looked at in pain. Then he mustered the strength to answer. The answer he gave made my stomach drop.
Mynde was subdued by a pale-looking woman who had no clothes on, and beside her was another individual; the only description he gave was that he had fiery hair. Celine took Mynde. It didn't stop there; he also told that the trio that was with him was also subdued, though they were gravely injured before they were taken into the building.
After hearing this, my mind went blank, and one emotion filled , regret. My anger built up, and I quickly dealt with the demons around to release it. That was my mistake because they witnessed the monster I was trying to hide for a long ti.
When I had finished eradicating the demons, one thing was on my mind. Killing Celine and her accomplice.
