"Heh..." ’Is he threatening again?’
She suppressed her pain and turmoil, her voice turning cold and distant. "Tristan Grayson, I just have one question for you. What you said in the hospital that day... does it still stand?"
There was a pause. On the other end of the line, Tristan, who had been brimming with anger, suddenly froze. ’What I said at the hospital?’ he wondered. ’I said so much. How am I supposed to know what she’s talking about?’
Just as Tristan Grayson knitted his brow, about to ask her what she ant, Mika Sumrs spoke again. "You said that after I was discharged from the hospital, you would marry . Was that true?"
Tristan Grayson fell silent, a complicated expression in his eyes.
’Why is everyone asking this today?’ he thought. ’Just a mont ago, Maggie Monroe asked the sa question in her room. Now this woman is asking it too.’
’No matter what I choose, I’ll have to let one of them down.’
When Tristan Grayson didn’t answer, Mika Sumrs already knew his decision. A cold, mocking smile touched her lips. "Tristan Grayson, have you decided you don’t want or our child?"
"No, how could I not want... the child..." Tristan Grayson said hastily.
"You want the child, so that ans you don’t want ?" ’So, that’s how it is...’
"I can’t make you any promises right now. I know I’ve wronged you. Please, believe . I won’t treat you unfairly. I’ll give you money."
She gave a numb, cold laugh. "Money? Is it always about money? Tristan Grayson, in your eyes, am I really just a gold digger?"
He fell silent. ’Right now, apart from money, there was nothing else he could give her...’
"Tristan Grayson, what do you take for? A woman who spent three years desperately clinging to you just for your money?"
"That’s not it..." ’Maybe I used to think that,’ he admitted to himself, ’but not anymore.’
"Not it? Then tell , what am I to you? Tristan Grayson’s pet? Soone you can humor with a few nice words when you’re in a good mood, then cast aside the mont you’re not?"
Her words pierced Tristan Grayson’s heart. Suppressing his own pain and anger, he snapped, "I have never thought of you like that!"
"Tristan Grayson, you want to give money, right? Fine. Give money. Give the money, and we’ll make a clean break. From now on, no more ties!" ’He’d never thought of that way? But his actions always proved otherwise.’
’How many lies had he told? How many tis had he deceived ? I could have cut all ties with him after the divorce, but I couldn’t help but go soft. I let myself get tangled up with him all over again... This ti, I won’t be weak. I’m taking my child and leaving him for good...’
Tristan Grayson’s eyes filled with pain. He turned and leaned against the wall, his voice laced with exhaustion. "I’ll be back tomorrow. We can talk in person then."
"If we’ve decided on no more ties, then there’s no need for us to et. Tristan Grayson, you can just send soone else to talk to ." She was afraid that if she saw him again, her resolve would waver; if she didn’t see him, she wouldn’t go soft.
Tristan Grayson didn’t reply. He just stood there, leaning silently against the wall with his eyes closed, phone still in hand.
Those three words—"no more ties"—were a devastating blow. He couldn’t accept this outco...
’Maybe... there’s a better way...’
Mika Sumrs didn’t hang up, waiting for him to speak. But she waited for a long, long ti, and still, he said nothing. She let out a self-deprecating laugh. "Goodbye."
With that, she moved to end the call.
But just then, Tristan Grayson’s chilling voice ca over the line. "Tomorrow. Go to the house and wait for ."
