On the balcony, Cassian Jennings watched her retreating figure. A sharp pang of pain shot through his heart, yet a scornful smile curved his lips.
’She’s always so extre. She never listens to my explanations and never even gives a chance to offer one.’
After leaving Cassian Jennings’s apartnt, Alia Avery just kept walking down the main road. She didn’t know where she was going, or where she could possibly belong now.
Before, whenever Cassian Jennings hurt her, she could go ho or turn to Leo Joyce. But now, she couldn’t go ho, and she couldn’t go to Leo Joyce either...

With a self-deprecating smile, she walked to the curb, hailed a taxi, and headed for the Elysian Bar.
Once at the bar, she headed straight for the restroom. Inside, she took off her black-frad glasses and set them on the counter. Looking in the mirror, she removed a dental prosthetic and tossed it into the trash. After rinsing her hands, she began to take out her colored contacts. Only then did she start to feel a little more at ease.
She washed her hands, splashed her face with water, and put the black-frad glasses back on before turning and leaving the restroom.
Out in the main lounge, watching the n and won drink and dance, the cynical twist of her lips grew more pronounced.
’Maybe this is where I belong,’ she thought. ’Only in a place like this can I briefly forget everything that hurts.’
’I used to co to places like this and try to be bad, just to get a little closer to the kind of woman Cassian Jennings liked. But now... now I’m just here to forget him. To forget all the pain.’
She strode to the bar in her four-inch heels and ordered a shot of hard liquor, which she downed in one go. With a light push, she slid the empty glass back across the counter, and the bartender imdiately refilled it. Taking the fresh drink, she headed toward the dance floor.
By the ti she reached the edge of the dance floor, two n were already dancing around her. A small smile played on her lips as she took a sip of her drink, then handed the glass to a passing server. She turned, draped her arms over another man’s shoulders, and lted into the rhythm with him.
The music grew more explosive, and the n and won on the floor beca more and more frenzied. Alia Avery felt a similar rush of excitent. She reached up, ripped off her cumberso glasses, and tossed them aside. With the man’s help, she smoothly shrugged off her trench coat.
Underneath, she wore a high-necked sweater and a pair of ultra-short hot pants. She swayed her slender hips, her hands resting on the man’s shoulders as she circled him with sultry steps. Suddenly, she was in front of him. She grabbed his tie and leaned back, her body falling away. The man’s hand shot out to catch her by the waist, while his other arm supported her thigh...
The n watching from the sidelines couldn’t help but gulp as they stared at the bewitching woman on the dance floor...
One man, a regular from another club called Vespera, even recognized the woman who was dancing.
He stared and pointed in Alia Avery’s direction for a long mont, stunned, before rushing off toward a private booth.
