Afterward, Feng Chunling spoke to Liu Ergou in a fawning tone. "Er Gou, about Xiao i… can you do your aunt a favor and not be angry with her? Please?"
Once Feng Chunling had spoken, Liu Ergou couldn't very well refuse. "Don't worry, Auntie. I'm a grown man. I won't hold a grudge against Xiao i."
Just as Feng Chunling was about to breathe a sigh of relief, Yang i chid in sarcastically, "Not hold a grudge against , huh? Heh, you sure talk a good ga!"
At that, Feng Chunling could no longer contain herself and shot a fierce glare at Yang i. Stung by the glare, Yang i defiantly stuck out her tongue before finally closing her mouth.
Liu Ergou witnessed the scene but paid it no mind, simply asking, "Yang i, what did you major in at college?"
Yang i was about to retort with a sarcastic remark, but rembering her mother's earlier expression, she swallowed the scornful words. She answered honestly, "I studied nursing. What about it?"
The ntion of a nursing degree left Liu Ergou speechless. He was an herb grower, not a hospital administrator. What use could he possibly have for a nurse? Even if he had a clinic, it was still under construction, and the progress was painfully slow. After all this ti, they hadn't even laid the foundation. It wasn't realistic to put Yang i on the payroll there to do nothing.
The more Liu Ergou thought about it, the more his head ached. But in the next mont, an idea popped into his mind, and his eyes lit up.
"A nursing major, huh?" Liu Ergou said, stroking his chin. "To be honest, a grower of Chinese dicinal herbs like doesn't really have a use for a nurse, especially since you were trained in Western dicine! It's a total mismatch for what I do here."
Upon hearing this, Feng Chunling's face turned deathly pale. Is Liu Ergou about to refuse to help my daughter find a job? If that's the case… The thought alone was agonizing.
But before Feng Chunling could spiral further, Liu Ergou continued, "How about this? Since you studied nursing, you probably know how to take care of people. You can stay by my side and be my secretary!"
"You won't have to do any heavy lifting. Just run so errands, bring tea, and maybe give a shoulder massage now and then. That's about it for the job. How does that sound?"
When Yang i heard this, she couldn't suppress her temper any longer and burst out, "Liu Ergou, you're just an herb grower! Who are you putting on airs for? You need a secretary? And I'm supposed to serve you tea and massage your back? Should I warm your bed for you, too?!"
Feng Chunling's joy had lasted less than three seconds. Hearing Yang i's outburst, she nearly fainted from rage. She had gone to so much trouble to get Liu Ergou to find a job for her daughter, even putting herself on the line. And now, her wretched daughter was being defiant, deliberately antagonizing Liu Ergou. You can cross anyone, but you don't cross your job or your money!
At this thought, Feng Chunling felt like she was about to have a heart attack, even though she didn't actually have heart disease.
Looking at Yang i, she could no longer restrain herself and snapped, "Yang i! Have I been too easy on you?!
"You won't even do a simple job like this, so what is it you want to do? Go back to the factory and tighten screws like you said?
"Are you only happy when you're exhausted like a dog? You're not happy with easy work right here?
"Yang i!"
Feng Chunling practically roared the last words. Yang i shrank back, not daring to utter another syllable.
Once her mother finished, Yang i didn't bother with explanations. She shot up from her seat, dashed into her room, and slamd the door. Then, she shouted from inside, "Mom, stop! I'm sorry, okay? I'm wrong! Isn't that enough? I'll take the secretary job! I just need to change my clothes! It's not right to go out in my pajamas!"
Hearing this, Feng Chunling's anger finally subsided.
Soon, Yang i erged from her room, having changed her clothes. She had swapped her pajamas for jeans and a white shirt, and she looked full of energy. Liu Ergou nodded in approval, though the motion was almost imperceptible.
Seeing her daughter, Feng Chunling still felt a little anxious and wanted to give her a few more instructions, but she didn't get the chance. At that mont, Liu Ergou stood up and started walking toward the door.
When he reached the doorway, he turned back to Feng Chunling and Yang i. "What are you still sitting for? Let's go. I'll get you set up with your work."
Feng Chunling was the first one on her feet, grabbing Yang i to follow him out. Yang i resisted for a mont, but after a sharp glare from her mother, she ekly complied.
Liu Ergou led Feng Chunling and Yang i across the village toward the eastern end. Along the way, villagers who saw the two won trailing behind Liu Ergou couldn't help but gossip.
"Tsk, tsk, what's this? Feng Chunling is following Liu Ergou? That's a rare sight!"
"Yeah, when did their families get so friendly? If I rember right, they start fighting the mont they see each other!"
"That's right, and it's always a huge fight. They'd argue for hours over the smallest thing. How can they be so quiet now?"
"Hey, I just had a thought. You don't think Liu Ergou maybe..."
"Get outta here, that's impossible! Don't be ridiculous. Everyone knows the bad blood between their families!"
Amid the murmurs, Liu Ergou led the two to the wasteland. The entire area had now been cleared. Hu Jing was there with a group of people, marking out plots in the reclaid land to plant transgenic corn.
Seeing her busy at work, Liu Ergou shouted, "Hu Jing, co over here for a second! I need your help with sothing!"
Engrossed in her task, Hu Jing imdiately turned her head at the sound of his voice. When she saw it was Liu Ergou, she didn't hesitate, getting up and walking right over to him.
Only when she reached him did she notice the two won standing behind him. Both were quite attractive, which left Hu Jing feeling puzzled. What's Liu Ergou doing bringing two won here?
