Soon after waking up, Xu Yulan ate breakfast with Liu Ergou waiting on her. After the al, he had planned to spend the day with his sister-in-law.
However, he had barely sat down on the bed when his phone suddenly blared. Hearing it ring, Liu Ergou couldn't help but sigh. No doubt about it, a call ant sothing else had co up. My vacation plans are probably ruined. At the thought, he didn't want to answer.
But seeing his reluctance, Xu Yulan picked up the phone and handed it to him. "Er Gou, your phone's ringing. Why aren't you answering?"
Looking at the phone in his hand, Liu Ergou sighed in defeat. "Fine, I'm getting it!"
He reluctantly took the phone from her but paused to check the caller ID before answering. His eyes filled with confusion when he saw it was a number he had never seen before. Still, he answered the call.
"Hello, who is this?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, a girl's voice ca from the other end. "It's , Liu Ergou! I'm Zhang Man! Where are you? Are you free? If you are, how about I treat you to a al?"
She spoke in a quick, urgent rush, giving him no chance to interject. "I'm waiting for you at the place we gathered the other day. Hurry up!"
When she finally finished, Liu Ergou managed to say helplessly, "Zhang Man, right? Let's put the al aside for a mont. Where did you get my number? I don't recall ever giving it to you."
"I got it from my dad, of course! He got it from Manager Lv!" Zhang Man replied. "Oh, stop asking so many questions and hurry over!"
After hearing her explanation, Liu Ergou refused her invitation without the slightest hesitation. "Forget it, I can't make it. I'm not in the city right now. I'm in my village, and it takes half a day to get to the city from here. Let's just forget about the al. We can talk so other ti!"
With that, he was about to hang up.
On the other end of the line, Zhang Man was taken aback for a mont to hear he was in his village, but she quickly recovered. "You're in the village? That's no big deal! Just wait, I'll have my family's butler fly a helicopter to pick you up. Our helicopter is very fast; it'll only take a few hours to get there. Just tell your location!"
Her words made Liu Ergou choke on his own saliva, and he coughed repeatedly. He was utterly astonished. Good heavens. Rich people really are sothing else, offering to send a helicopter at the drop of a hat. I've never even seen a helicopter up close, let alone ridden in one.
Although he was eager to try it, after a mont's thought, he reluctantly refused. If Zhang Man's helicopter really ca, he'd beco the talk of Fengzhu Village. Once that happened, who knew what other trouble would be waiting for him. I'd better keep a low profile.
So Liu Ergou refused her again. "Forget it, a helicopter? In your dreams. When I get a chance to go to the city, you can treat to a al then, okay?"
He offered a noncommittal excuse and was about to hang up, but Zhang Man stopped him again.
"Liu Ergou, it isn't inviting you this ti, it's my dad! After your acupuncture and the dicine you gave him, my grandpa is awake now. The bedsores on his back have improved a lot, too. We just want to thank you! I'm not lying, you have to co! When you get here, you can give my grandpa a follow-up check to see how he's doing."
Hearing this, Liu Ergou fell into deep thought. So it was Zhang Xiuming who invited . In that case, it seems I really have to go. But it's so inconvenient out here in the village. Who knows how long it'll take to get to the city?
Before he could decide what to do, Zhang Man spoke again. "Why so quiet? I know it's a bit far from your place to the city, but don't worry. Just get to the town, and I'll have soone pick you up from there. Trust , it'll be fast! That's settled then, see you soon!"
Without giving Liu Ergou another chance to speak, she hung up.
Liu Ergou sighed in resignation. Well, so much for my day off. It's a total write-off now.
He turned his head, about to tell Xu Yulan he had to go out, only to find her staring right at him. For a mont, Liu Ergou felt a pang of guilt, unsure of what to say.
But before he could speak, Xu Yulan said, "Er Gou, I heard everything. Since you have sothing to do, you should go. I'll be fine here at ho by myself."
With that, she sat up and began to help him get dressed.
Seeing how understanding she was, Liu Ergou's heart filled with a mix of gratitude and guilt. He spent so little ti with her, always running around, yet she never blad him. At that thought, he could no longer hold back and pulled her into a sudden embrace, giving her a deep, hard kiss.
"Sis, I..."
Xu Yulan cut him off. "Alright, alright, no need for all that. I'm your sister-in-law, after all. Now go, go on!"
Since she had put it that way, Liu Ergou didn't hesitate any longer. He stood up, threw on his clothes in a flash, and headed for the door. But after a few steps, he seed to rember sothing and suddenly turned back.
Seeing Xu Yulan's puzzled expression, Liu Ergou reached out and gave her a firm slap on the buttocks. A crisp smack echoed in the room. Instantly, Xu Yulan's face flushed with shyness.
"You're so naughty, Er Gou! Can't you be serious for a mont? You're about to leave!"
Hearing this, Liu Ergou chuckled. He took her small hand and said earnestly, "Sis, don't worry. No matter what happens out there, you'll always be the most important person in my heart."
Taken aback by his sudden declaration, Xu Yulan blushed even deeper. Flustered, she could only whisper a soft agreent.
