Chapter 1342: Chapter 1339: She Seems to Have Completely Forgotten Him (Extra 4)
Lily had fallen asleep by the ti he returned to the bedroom.
She still lay on her left side, her back facing him.
Aidan Lucas pretended to be oblivious to everything, and after taking a bath, he too lay down under the blanket.
Like the past few nights, he pulled the petite woman into his arms and circled her from behind.
Using his warm body to keep her heated.
Aidan Lucas’s movents didn’t wake Lily; she was in a deep sleep.
The night was deep.
Their even breathing sounded exceptionally clear on such a night.
After an indeterminate amount of ti, an extrely faint sob suddenly broke the silence.
Lily, enveloped by the familiar embrace of the man behind her, curled up into a tiny ball under his protection.
Her mouth covered, Lily stifled the tears that threatened to spill at any mont.
She thought she had already cried enough.
She thought she had run out of tears.
But the mont the man behind her wrapped her in his arms, she realized… no amount of sorrow could match a familiar embrace from the man behind her.
The embrace of the first persona, the embrace of the second persona, no matter which it was, it was Aidan Lucas’s embrace.
The steadier and stronger his arms were, the deeper the despair of a sorrow greater than death seeped into her heart.
She was in despair… truly in despair…
Lily suddenly didn’t know what all her perseverance over such a long ti had been for.
She thought by moving the second persona, the first would return, and their family could reunite, seek his forgiveness, and live happily ever after.
All of it, she realized, was nothing more than her own wishful thinking.
What if the first persona returned?
He didn’t want her anymore, he didn’t want her…
He didn’t love her anymore…
Lily curled her body within Aidan Lucas’s warm yet now unfeeling embrace.
She covered her mouth and wept silently… She didn’t know how long she cried, just weeping until she fell asleep.
After a long ti, the man embracing her suddenly opened his eyes.
His bright, deep almond-shaped eyes shone clearly in the darkness.
He gently wiped the tears from the woman’s face, tucking her soft hair to one side.
He cautiously leaned in, kissing the tears from her curled eyelashes.
Staring at the sleeping face of the woman in his arms who had cried, in the darkness, the man let out a gentle sigh.
“Sleep…” he murmured, “After the pain, you will soon forget…”
“Lily, you will quickly forget him.”
*
The next day, it was as if everything from yesterday had never happened.
Lily didn’t ntion the first persona again, and she and Aidan Lucas sohow spent the day uneventfully.
The third day was like the previous one.
The fourth day, the fifth day… until after seven days.
Mr. Fenton had already arrived in B City, starting to prepare the case for Lily Gray’s impostor.
anwhile, as Aidan Lucas had anticipated, there were no waves on Mason Scott’s end.
Instead, the news of Wendy Jenkins becoming a vegetative state stirred up attention.
So people took this opportunity to encourage Eastonians not to fear power, not to apologize to their own citizens just for a word from Duke Redington.
The matter escalated to a fever pitch, but Lily didn’t care about any of it.
She was like completely heartbroken, not contacting the outside world except for video calls with her three babies at the designated tis every day.
And yet, Aidan Lucas knew it was all an illusion.
It was like knowing a breakdown was imminent at any ti, but still living in self-deception.
Because every night, the woman he held in his arms would secretly cry after he “fell asleep.”
She always covered her mouth, bearing it silently.
But that sadness was like infectious heartache, causing even Aidan Lucas to feel gut-wrenching pain at the sound of her sobs.
