The chubby little one hugged mother, rubbing her head against mother’s legs.
She obviously wanted mother to hold her, but rembering what Brother Charlie said—that mother was carrying a little sister and that holding her would be strenuous—Lulu very considerately didn’t tell mother she wanted to be held.
Lily saw through little baby’s intention right away, knowing that her dear Lulu loved her, and smiled as she squatted down to embrace Lulu in her arms.
“Don’t worry, Lulu,” Lily said, “Mrs. Wellington has already left. Although she’s fierce, mother isn’t easy to bully. Mother scared Mrs. Wellington away.”
“Yay, mother is aweso!” Lulu secretly burst with joy, burying her head in mother’s embrace.
Whimpering, mother’s embrace is so soft and nice to hug. It shouldn’t be against the rules for Lulu to hug her mother like this, right?
With this thought, Lulu stealthily glanced back.
She caught sight of Brother Charlie’s deep, sparkling eyes, watching her with a faint smile.
Her chubby little face instantly flushed red.
Oh no, caught by brother!
Lily noticed that the little one was nestling more insistently into her arms, her chubby little face almost burying itself into her shoulder and seemingly not wanting to leave.
Just then, David Redington, along with Ben Lucas and Abbie, ca walking over.
David bent down slightly and picked up Lulu from Lily’s arms.
“Good girl, Lulu,” he said, “didn’t you just say you wanted ice cream? What flavor do you want?” He seamlessly took Lulu from her, allowing Lily to stand up.
At the ntion of ice cream, Lulu’s entire focus was drawn to the colorful ice cream photos behind the bar counter.
She blinked her lovely eyes, dazzled by the choices.
“Mother…”
“Mommy…”
Lily stood up, and Ben Lucas and Abbie happened to co up to her side.
She deliberately didn’t bring up the recent dispute but instead pointed to the bar, “Pick sothing you like, too.”
Ben Lucas shook his head, indicating he didn’t want any.
He had never had such an experience, and even less so the chance to go shopping for ice cream with family.
But Lily just smiled and patted Ben Lucas on the head, “Ben, you’re the big brother, you have to set a good example for your brother and sister. How can you not have so? Will you take your brother and sister to buy ice cream?”
Ben hesitated for a mont but, considering it was a ‘task’ given by mother, he nodded emphatically.
“Okay, Ben will take Abbie and Lulu.”
David set Lulu down, passing her on to Ben.
Then, the three kids crowded in front of the bar.
Taking advantage of the mont while the kids were away, David asked Lily with concern, “Mrs. Wellington is quite domineering, isn’t she? How could she not make things difficult for you?”
Lily looked fresh and untroubled, clearly not like soone who had been harassed.
However, David was still worried, inspecting her from head to toe.
“No. Brother, don’t worry, I’m fine.”
At this ti, Lily and David were standing a few steps away from the bar.
Neither the bar staff behind them nor the other custors could see their intimate gestures, nor hear their conversation.
But the heartthrob’s concerned deanor towards the so-called ‘mistress’ made people green with envy and longing.
Just then, Lulu finally chose her ice cream flavor.
She was about to tell the attendant her choice when she looked up and saw that auntie staring intently at mother.
Little Lulu couldn’t help but frown, asking in a soft, tender voice, “Auntie, why are you staring at my mother? Do you know her?”
“I, I…” The attendant, who had been gossiping about Lily earlier, was taken aback by purse’s direct question, stuttering for a few monts before managing to regain composure.
“Child, Auntie wants to ask you sothing. Are the two people standing there your parents?”
