“Tania, why are you here?”
Nolan Lucas was in the study upstairs handling important matters. When he saw Tania Scott co in carrying a plate of fruit, he slightly furrowed his brows.
“You almost disturbed your pregnancy. Why did you get out of bed when you should be lying down?”
Nolan took the fruit plate from Tania’s hands. His tone was stern, but his actions were gentle.
“Let the servants handle these things. There’s no need for you to do them yourself.”
“It’s nothing… I’m feeling much better now…” Tania’s voice trembled slightly. Her eyes darted around uneasily, her entire deanor a display of anxiousness.
“Tania, you’re not looking well,” Nolan’s ticulous mind instantly noticed her unusual behavior.
“If there’s sothing wrong, tell . Don’t try to tough it out.”
Although his feelings for Tania were largely utilitarian, over the recent months, he couldn’t say he felt nothing for her.
After all, she was carrying his son.
Besides, Tania had always been deeply infatuated with him. Even knowing he was an illegitimate child, the admiration in her eyes whenever she looked at him was palpable.
This fed Nolan’s pride outwardly while soothing his deeply rooted insecurities inwardly.
Without realizing it, he’d started developing a fondness for Tania.
“No, I’m not feeling unwell…” Tania forced a smile, “I was just worried you’d be upset. Alexander went back to B City. He left in such a hurry—he booked a ticket without telling after dropping off. I only found out when he called from the airport.”
Alexander Scott had been shocked senseless earlier today when he saw Sylvia Scott at the Lucas family ho.
Outsiders might not know, but the Scott family was well aware that Larry Scott valued this younger sister more than his own children.
Alexander wasn’t stupid.
Sticking around any longer could result in Theodore Lucas and the others discovering his weaknesses—and who knew how they’d deal with him then.
He wasn’t Tania; he didn’t have a child in his belly or an obsession with Nolan Lucas.
So, once Alexander figured out the situation, he booked the next flight back to B City without hesitation, planning to kneel before his mother and confess his mistakes, hoping his father might forgive him.
Alexander might have fled, but Tania couldn’t.
Her husband was here; her current ho was here.
That’s why she’d taken the effort to prepare the fruit plate—to try sweet-talking her mother-in-law and sister-in-law into forgiving Alexander’s abrupt departure.
Who could’ve guessed she’d overhear sothing shocking…
“Alexander went back?” Nolan furrowed his brows, but didn’t seem particularly concerned. “It’s fine. Let him stay with my parents-in-law and show them more respect on our behalf. Once your child is born, we’ll go back together to visit them.”
Tania caught the critical point.
“Born… Nolan, are we having this baby in A City?”
Even if Larry Scott refused to acknowledge her, she knew Isabella Martinez would take care of her in B City.
With her mother there, Tania could give birth at the Military Hospital, where no one would dare harm her.
“Yes,” Nolan said. “My mother and Evelyn have already arranged it. It’s the best hospital in A City. Next week, after we’ve toppled Aidan Lucas, there might be so chaos within the Lucas family. We’ll need a period to consolidate power internally. By the ti that’s sorted, it will be ti for you to deliver.”
The implication: They wouldn’t have the ti to travel back to B City.
“The hospital chosen by your mother and sister…” Tania felt a sudden chill.
She glanced at Nolan, almost blurting out the question: “Did you already know Tara Hammond and Evelyn Lucas’s plans?!”
But she dared not, dared not…
She was terrified that if she asked, neither she nor the child would leave this house alive.
“I understand… Giving birth in A City works too. That way, I can stay close to you. Nolan, I’m tired—I’ll head upstairs first…”
Tania felt disoriented. Suddenly, from behind her, a soft, coquettish voice rang out.
“Brother, you promised to take out for dinner tonight. I’ve been waiting downstairs forever—aren’t you coming?”
Tania turned around, locking eyes with Evelyn Lucas’s deliberate, taunting gaze.
