Theodore Lucas looked at his daughter, who was now standing in front of Tara Hammond to protect her, and suddenly found himself unable to act—he couldn’t hit her, nor could he back down.
At that mont, a voice filled with frigid sarcasm and mockery sounded from directly behind Theodore Lucas.
"Theodore Lucas, there was a ti I wished you were dead, but now I realize, you’re not even worth hating..." Mr. Lucas had appeared behind Theodore Lucas unannounced.
With one hand in his pocket, he stared at Theodore Lucas with an icy gaze, before shifting his attention to Evelyn Lucas and Tara Hammond, who were displaying their lodramatic performance on the floor.
Theodore Lucas turned around, catching the cold, resolute glint in Aidan Lucas’s eyes.
His complexion turned pale; an unspeakable bitterness and sourness surged in his heart.
But after so many years, he had already grown used to opposing Aidan Lucas, his son.
After hearing Aidan’s words, he stubbornly retorted, "Heh, if you want to laugh at , then go ahead... I know, you think that I’m pathetic and ridiculous now. I don’t need your sympathy or your pity!"
"Who said I’d pity you?" Mr. Lucas raised his eyes and shot him a glance, his gaze dripping with mockery.
"Nothing you’ve done ever deserves pity. Everything you’re facing now is entirely your own doing—nobody forced you into it. The reason I don’t hate you is simply that I’ve co to understand you don’t even deserve that. Even the toy you’ve raised managed to play you like a puppet. Heh... Theodore Lucas, tell , what else qualifies you for my hatred?"
Struck where it hurt most, Theodore Lucas couldn’t resist striking back. "Aidan Lucas, don’t get too full of yourself. I’m still your father!"
"My father? My father died when I turned eighteen." Aidan Lucas tilted his chin slightly, his gaze disdainful. "And you, you’re just a hopeless fool being toyed with by won."
"You..." Theodore Lucas was consud by anger to the point of distress, feeling as though sothing heavy was stuck in his chest. He couldn’t breathe properly, a choking sensation overtaking him.
Aidan Lucas wasn’t done, though. He curled his lips in mockery, his cold gaze sweeping toward the tightly embraced Tara Hammond and Evelyn Lucas.
"And as for you two... Do you really think that if you insist on vehent denial, so matters can be swept under the rug forever?"
Mr. Lucas turned his icy gaze towards Evelyn Lucas, who now squinted her eyes in suspicion and guardedness.
Then, he spoke coldly: "You have the audacity to say sothing like ’both the palm and the back of the hand are flesh’? Do you think everyone is as brainless as Theodore Lucas, stepping out the door without bringing their wits along?"
A flicker of guilt flashed across Evelyn Lucas’s eyes, but she raised her voice intentionally. "Aidan Lucas, my father isn’t the person you’re describing. You hate him, but that doesn’t apply to . For , he’s just as important as Mom is. If you want to provoke, then go right ahead; there’s no need for all this roundabout nonsense!"
"Heh, is that right?" Aidan Lucas chuckled lightly.
The curve of his lips startled everyone present.
Despite seeing Mr. Lucas countless tis, this was the first mont anyone had seen him display a smile that felt so genuinely real.
"Robbie Bright would probably be furious if he heard you say that. It’s already disgraceful enough for his biological daughter to take another man’s surna, but if he knew Theodore Lucas held the sa place in your heart as Tara Hammond, he’d likely be livid to death."
"You... you’re spouting nonsense!" Evelyn Lucas’s hand trembling as she clutched onto Tara Hammond, though her face showed a forced calm.
