Jadeite wielded the short sword with impressive skill, its cold light flashing, causing the intruder to pause, a hint of fear in his eyes.
"Murder! Murder! Not only is the crooked shop selling Poisonous Rouge, but now they want to kill to silence ! Sobody, report to the authorities!" The woman was startled but quickly began slapping her thigh and wailing.
Onlookers murmured amongst themselves, pointing and gesturing.
"Make way, make way." Mo Lan guarded Wufu, pushing through the crowd.
"Shut your mouth!" Jadeite pointed the sword at the woman, sternly shouting, "Since the Zining Pavilion opened, all the materials used for our rouge have been top-notch. Each box undergoes rigorous processing, never causing any issue. How co there’s a problem with yours? Tell , who instructed you to co here and sar our shop’s reputation!"
"Bah! Do you dare to confidently say there are no flawed rouges in your shop, and I’m just unfortunate enough to use your Poisonous Rouge?" the woman retorted coldly.
Jadeite glanced at her, then at the n trying to storm into the shop, and asked, "Who are they to you?"
"They’re my husband and son, so what?" the woman snorted.
Jadeite scrutinized the couple and said, "From the look of your outfits, none of you seem well-off. Our rouge is famous for being costly yet effective. The most basic one costs over two taels of silver per box. Your husband’s clothes are patched, and you use rouge worth two taels of silver?"
The crowd looked over and indeed found it so.
The man and boy beca sowhat uneasy, glancing at the woman, who showed a flash of panic in her eyes, but quickly cald down, saying, "Why can’t my husband and son cherish ? I just happened to celebrate my birthday, and they specially bought a good box for ."
"Yes, we’re willing to eat salted vegetables just to buy her sothing nice," the man said.
Jadeite mocked, "If your wife were an actual fairy, I might believe it. But as it is... you’d better not waste good rouge!"
"You insolent girl, you think you can sow discord between us? There’s no justice! This crooked store does shady deeds and even tries to break families, with no good intentions!" the woman cried out in despair.
"Scream any louder, and I’ll sew your mouth shut," Wufu calmly said as he walked up the steps.
The woman abruptly stopped sobbing and looked over.
"You say our rouge ruined your face? Then show us the powder you claid you bought from here," Wufu coldly surveyed the woman’s face.
The woman wanted to curse, but upon seeing Wufu’s chilling stare, swallowed her words. Damn it, this girl is scarier than the one with the sword; those eyes look like they want to devour soone.
She took out a box of powder, saying, "I’m not afraid of you; this was bought right from your shop!"
Mo Lan stepped forward to receive it and passed it to Wufu, who turned the bottle over to check the number, then looked at Lady Fengniang and said, "Check the number."
Lady Fengniang took the rouge powder and then flipped through the registry book, quickly finding when this box of powder was sold, how much silver it sold for, and noting the purchaser’s na looked like that of a maid.
The crowd was sowhat puzzled, so Jadeite explained, "To prevent forgery, every box of our rouge has a different serial number, and its whereabouts are always registered for thorough investigation."
The woman imdiately grew tense, focusing intently on Lady Fengniang.
"It’s definitely one of ours," Lady Fengniang announced, looking up.
The woman, upon hearing this, felt relieved, revealing a hint of smugness, "See, it is a crooked shop indeed!"
"The na of the purchaser was Huaner, bought just three days ago. You claim your husband bought it? I’ve been in the shop all the ti and never served a man, let alone a common farr," Lady Fengniang glanced at the man while speaking.
