After bowing to the hall, they offered tea to Old Mr. ng and others. With the witnesses present, the ceremony was considered complete.
The wedding ceremony, simple yet solemn, was completed, leaving everyone with a sense of blockage in their hearts. It was the first ti they felt such sorrow witnessing a ceremony, longing to find a place to cry freely.
As soon as the ceremony was over, Madam Zhou seed as if an unseen hand had drawn out her spirit, and she quickly withered, appearing gaunt.
The rest of the people in the room withdrew, leaving only Wufu, Ah Jiu, and Bai Xiaobai.
Wufu held Madam Zhou against her chest, gripping her hand, tears continuously streaming down.
"Today... I’m truly happy!" Madam Zhou’s voice was barely audible.
"Mother, don’t leave." Wufu choked out.
Madam Zhou said, "Child... I have no regrets."
She strained to stroke her belly, feeling sorry for the child inside, already sensing its frailty.
Wufu sniffed deeply.
Madam Zhou stroked her belly weakly, her breaths faint.
Ti passed slowly, and outside the window, the snow fell heavier. The winter sky darkened quickly, and it was uncertain when night had fallen.
Not far away, it seed as if distant bell sounds wafted, each chi tugging at the soul.
"Wufu, I’m leaving." With just those five words, Madam Zhou closed her eyes, exhaled a long breath, a slight smile on her lips.
On that road, she still had her little daughter to accompany her. In this world, she had no regrets.
Feeling the person in her embrace gradually grow cold, Wufu beca completely rigid.
Ah Jiu reached out to check Madam Zhou’s breath, then saw Wufu’s dazed eyes and couldn’t help but redden with tears, softly whispering, "Wufu, Mother has gone."
"Mm." Wufu got off the bed, laid her back down, placing her hands on the still bulging belly, in a daze.
"Xiao Bai." Wufu called softly.
Bai Xiaobai squatted aside, silently wiping his tears. This was just too damn sad. He wanted to have a good cry, sobbing.
"Bai Xiaobai!" Wufu raised her voice.
"What?" Bai Xiaobai replied a bit sharply, still grieving.
"Co over and check my mother’s pulse."
Bai Xiaobai frowned. The person was already dead, what was the point of checking? Wasn’t she overly grief-stricken?
"Wufu, Mother is already gone." Ah Jiu also frowned, thinking she refused to accept the reality.
"I know." Wufu stared at the belly. She felt it seed to move a mont ago.
Bai Xiaobai ca over, seeing Madam Zhou’s face already lifeless, he said, "Madam is already gone."
"Cut the nonsense, check the pulse." Wufu ordered, "Be thorough."
Bai Xiaobai saw her serious face and had to pick up Madam Zhou’s hand, thinking it was madness; how could a pulse be felt from soone who had died, unless... huh.
Bai Xiaobai’s eyes suddenly widened.
"Is it?" Wufu stared at him nervously, pointing to Madam Zhou’s belly, "Is it still alive?"
Bai Xiaobai carefully checked, that tiny pulse was so weak it was almost imperceptible. He glanced at Madam Zhou’s belly, opened his mouth, "Even so, he can’t crawl out on his own, and he’s too weak. The mother has passed, he can’t possibly hold on."
Saying that, he cast a sympathetic look at Wufu.
This child was her closest blood relative.
Ah Jiu listened to their conversation, sowhat astonished, looking at Madam Zhou’s belly. Was the child still alive?
Wufu pressed her lips together, and after a long while said, "If he can’t crawl out, I’ll help him."
Ah Jiu and Bai Xiaobai exchanged glances, help him, how?
