’Hmm.’

As Vale watched Dickless Jr. wave the pipe around like a sword, he continued his contemplation.

In particular, would he let his curiosity get the better of him and summon a Mage for 100 Aether?

Would miserliness lure him into gambling just to spare his Aether?

Would fear of losing lives drive him to summon only Mystery Boxes?

Vale sighed, then looked at little DJ.

"What do you think I should do?"

The little imp smacked the pipe against the nonexistent ground, then looked up with wide eyes.

"badu?"

Vale sat down and crossed his legs.

"What should I spend the first portion on? Mage, Random, R-ranked Mystery Box, or Archers and Warriors."

The little imp tilted its head before waving the pipe around like a magic wand.

"badu!"

"A Mage?"

’How does he even know what that is?’

Sothing Vale only knew from fairy tales.

The imp nodded its head up and down furiously.

Vale didn’t know exactly why he’d let Dickless Jr. make the choice.

’Well...’

Actually, he did.

If he ca to make a choice he regretted, it was much easier to cope with if it wasn’t entirely his fault. Not that he was going to bla the little imp. But that he would simply bla his misfortune over ineptitude.

’Welp.’

’Here goes nothing.’

[Would you like to summon a Mage for 100 Aether?]

Vale spoke quietly, a hint of trepidation in his voice.

"Yes."

The mont the words left his mouth, a bright sparkle appeared above. The golden sparkle flared and streaked through the void overhead. Its trail blazed gold, slowly shifting into purple and then pink as it picked up speed.

At last, the sparkling cot shot downward and landed before Vale and DJ.

When the scintilla dissipated, it revealed a cloaked woman who resembled the Warriors and Archers, only thinner and visibly a little frail.

The cloak it wore was just like its skin, colored like flowing ink. However...

’Black and blue.’

Besides the robe, there was one major difference between the Mage and the others. It was the eyes.

The eyes of the Mage were sleek, deep blue like a sapphire gem.

Smooth and reflective, absent of a glow.

The Mage looked upon Vale, then kneeled.

"What are your orders?"

Vale stood and stepped away. He looked his new troop up and down, then summoned her status page.

Na: [---]

Title: [—]

Mage Level: [0]

Mage Ability: [0]

Loyalty: [100/100]

Traits: [Water Elentalist] [Spill Forth] [Shifting Tides] [Water Wall]

’Her Traits...’

Vale read the descriptions one by one. All of them were very straightforward in what they did.

[Water Elentalist] gave her an affinity for controlling water.

[Spill Forth] allowed her to summon water from her fingertips.

[Shifting Tides] allowed her to montarily accelerate the water she was controlling at the cost of Aether.

[Water Wall] explained itself well enough. Activating the ability accelerated the formation of the wall and compressed the water into a far denser barrier than she could achieve through normal control alone.

At least that was how Vale understood it.

Vale, after carefully reading it over, gave the Mage her order.

"For now, you can go familiarize yourself with the dungeon. But, beware our current guest in the yellow dress."

The Mage nodded.

"Understood."

As the Mage turned to walk off, Vale called out and said:

"Your na is Sapphire."

The Mage turned around and bowed with a smile.

"Thank you, Master."

Dickless Jr. and Vale were left alone once again.

Vale looked down at the wide-eyed imp who’d been too busy marveling at the sparkles to play with his rocks and pipe. Vale montarily stared at the little guy, confusing him.

"Good fucking shit Dickless Jr.!"

Vale sat back down and high-fived the little guy with three spikey fingers.

’A Mage was a great call.’

The little imp obviously didn’t understand what was going on, but began to cheer as well.

"badu! badu!"

’Alright, DJ, I’m counting on you! What’s next?’

Vale had 118 Aether left and wanted to save 50 in case of an ergency, so he had 68 Aether to spend.

"Random, a Mystery Box, or Archer and Warriors?"

The little imp rocked back and forth.

"baaduuu. badu!"

Then held up one finger.

"Random?"

"badu!"

DJ shouted in rapture.

’Well, I’ve been curious anyway...’

Vale was a little worried things would go horribly wrong, but if his trusted advisor recomnded it, who was he to deny it?!

[Would you like to purchase Random for 25 Aether?]

Vale thought it this ti. Too scared to say it aloud.

’Yes...’

Vale looked up into the white, empty air and spotted a little black dot.

’Huh?’

As the black dot fell closer to the ground, Vale could make out its form and what it was.

’Fuck.’

It was an imp.

Though it had an entirely tenbrous coat unlike the typical red and pink ones.

The imp bounced to the ground, then screeched in a high-pitched voice:

"BAAdduuh."

Vale sighed.

He’d just spent 25 Aether on a Worker!

Looking at the small new recruit, Vale summoned its status out of curiosity.

What he saw made his eyes begin to glow.

Na: [---]

Title: —

Worker Level: [1]

Loyalty: [100/100]

Traits: [Blood Leatherworker] [Ergent Builder] [Ergent Miner]

’Level 1...’

The Worker was Level 1. Not only that, it ca with Traits. And not just any Traits...

’A Leatherworker...’

Sothing Vale lacked and was seriously at his wits’ end about how to acquire it if it were even possible.

’This imp...’

This imp was worth 25 Aether.

Vale looked at Dickless Jr. with a wide smile and gave the small worker a thumbs-up.

Vale spoke to the new recruit and decided to na him as well.

"Tanner. Your na will be Tanner."

The black imp looked happy with its na and jumped. Then, Vale gave Tanner his first order.

"Go join the other Workers in mining out the blueprint. When that’s done, we’ll get to work setting up a leatherworking station."

The imp with its deep voice bellowed:

"Baaduuh."

Then ran off into the dungeon.
