Colin slapped the button on the alarm clock, as he slowly opened his eyes drowsily, not looking forward to today, just like all the days for the last 22 years. He looked at the clock that read 7AM before slowly getting out of bed and heading towards the bathroom to get ready for his occupation waiting tables at a local restaurant. This routine was pretty much engraved in his bones at this point and he soon left his ho, he walked along the bustling streets of K town, filled with people walking along the sidewalk, most of them staring at their phones as they walked. Cars and other vehicles zood along the streets, and Colin waited until the sign indicated for him to cross the street. He soon arrived at the restaurant and he imdiately got to work after putting on the restaurant's uniform. The midday rush ca rather quickly as many people from nearby businesses ca there for lunch and Colin went to take a custor's order like usual.
"Sir, what would-" Colin suddenly froze as he could see his own breath and he looked out the window, allowing him to see darkness blanket the sky and the others in the restaurant started to notice it as well. The pedestrians and drivers all stopped to look up at the sky, taking pictures and Colin slowly walked towards the door before looking at the sky and he could see a red sun in the sky.
"Is that a solar eclipse?" Colin heard soone ask and he was wondering the sa thing as he looked at the crimson orb in the sky, but he realized that his eyes weren't even burning as he looked up at the sky, making him feel even more uneasy. Sothing drew Colin's eyes downwards from the strange eclipse in the sky where he could see black mist leaking out of the ground, but he couldn't see any cracks or even any manhole covers from where the mist could originate. A growing sense of dread filled his heart as the mist beca thicker and more people started to notice it. He quickly went back into the restaurant and closed the door, and sothing compelled him to take off his shirt and apron, and stuff the bottom of the door to prevent the mist from entering the restaurant.
"Colin, what the hell are you doing?" Said a large man as he walked forward and Colin turned towards him. The man tried to open the door but Colin grabbed his hand before he could grab the door handle.
"Don't." Colin said and the man tried to remove his hand from Colin's grip with an angry look on his face, but Colin's hand barely budged.
"What do you think you're doing?! I'll fire you for this you bastard." He said angrily, and that threat would have usually gotten Colin to let go, but not today. He could feel sothing in his gut, like a primal dread that told him that whatever was happening outside was dangerous.
"Aaaaggghhhhh!!!!" Soone outside scread as the mist wrapped around soone and no matter how they tried to escape, the mist continued to wrap around them, forming a cocoon. The others outside imdiately started backing away, but the mist was seeping from everywhere now, and people started screaming as the mist tried to wrap around them and then chaos erupted on the streets as people tried to drive away from the mist, crashing into other vehicles, and even then, the mist still seeped into the vehicles. People ran in all directions, as they tried to escape, but Colin knew their actions were futile as the mist was everywhere now. He could hear screams and explosions from all over the town now, smoke rose from several places in the city, making him grit his teeth.
"What the fuck?" The large man said in pure shock and fear
"Still wanna go outside." Colin said, as he released the man's hand and the man glared at him
"You know what's going on don't you, you little shit." The man said accusingly and Colin rolled his eyes
"No, I just thought that rushing outside when creepy and weird as fuck black mist is seeping mysteriously out of the ground might be a bad idea." Colin said condescendingly, and the man turned red in anger, but before he could say anything else, soone slamd into the glass.
"Please let in!!!!" The woman scread and more people ca slamming against the glass, trying to get in, banging desperately against the glass. The large man moved to open the door, but Colin blocked the door.
"Don't be an idiot. If you open that door, you'll let the misty in here. They have inhaled enough of that stuff already and they're as good as dead. If you open that door, you'll doom us all." Colin said and the man gritted his teeth as he knew Colin was right, but this was about authority, not who was right or wrong.
"Move." He said, and tried to push Colin away, but Colin dodged and pushed the man away from the door instead. The people started to knock even more furiously, and the man glared at Colin before walking forward nacingly, when he suddenly froze as he saw the people get swallowed by the mist and enveloped in a cocoon. Outside it beca silent as everyone was enveloped in mist, and cold sweat dripped down Colin's face as he backed away from the door and he could see black mist leaking from beneath the door, the clothes he used to stop it proving not to be sufficient and he quickly pushed the clothes against the door with his foot.
"Can soone help please?" Colin asked and he looked back at the others in the restaurant, but he only saw fear stricken people frozen in shock and his boss backing away, making Colin click his tongue. He tried his best to stop the black mist from seeping in, but it proved insufficient as black mist started to seep from the floor boards into the restaurant.
"Well shit." Colin said as his vision turned black and he tried to hold his breath but he could feel his body being enveloped in the black mist, then he felt pain surge through his entire being. He could feel his bones snapping, his muscles being destroyed and reford while his organs lted and reford into sothing stronger, sothing alien. He could feel the mist trying to transform sothing deeper, but he fought back against the invasive entity. The fight raged on for what felt like hours and hours, until finally, he lost consciousness.
