"We might buy a bit more today," Kyle Kinston said, then turned to ask Mabel Quinn beside him, "What would you like to buy?"
Mabel Quinn proceeded to buy five pounds of duck tongues, and then picked so duck necks, duck wings, and such. The old man weighed the items, while the old lady beside him smiled and said, "This is the first ti I’ve seen Kyle bring a girl over, could she be his girlfriend?"
Mabel Quinn gracefully replied, "Yes, I’m his girlfriend." From the old couple’s tone, she could tell they were quite familiar with Kyle Kinston.
"That’s wonderful, Kyle is such a handso young man; I always said there’s no way he wouldn’t have a girlfriend," the old lady said.
Mabel Quinn rarely saw Kyle Kinston’s ears turn slightly red. Mabel chatted a bit more with the elderly couple and learned that they had t Kyle when he was nine years old. Every year since, Kyle always visited them a few tis, and unknowingly, so many years had passed.
Mabel Quinn was taken aback; at nine years old, that would have been when Kyle first arrived in Falling City.
After leaving the small shop, Mabel asked Kyle, "Do they know about your identity?" Throughout the entire ti, she had only seen the old couple talk to Kyle as if they were having an ordinary chat, and aside from ntioning a few things about him in the shop, they didn’t bring up anything else, nor about his work.
"They might know, or they might not," Kyle said with a chuckle, "Even if they do know, they just act as if they don’t."
"When you were nine, how did you end up in their shop?" she asked, curious.
He laughed at himself, "Back then, I was naive, thinking I could live on my own, so I ran away from ho and ended up falling asleep in front of their shop. That’s how we t. I was like a little beggar, but they didn’t mind; they gave a bath and fed , clothed ."
Mabel thought perhaps it was the couple’s kindness back then that struck a chord with Kyle, which is why he maintained contact with them all these years.
"And your father, he should have sent a lot of people to find you, right? How could he not find you?" Mabel asked in puzzlent, after all, Falling City was Kinston Family’s turf, finding a nine-year-old child shouldn’t have been difficult.
But Kyle said, "My father knew from the mont I left the house."
"He knew?" She was astonished.
"Yes, he knew, but he didn’t stop . He let experience what it was like to run away, to understand that living isn’t that easy. It wasn’t until a month later that he appeared in front of again and asked if I was willing to go back to the Kinston Family with him."
Mabel was stunned. Although this is also a thod of education, sotis you have to let children hit a wall to prevent the sa thing from happening again; this approach is not sothing an ordinary parent would take. It can only be said that his father was quite an extraordinary person.
"And you just went back?" she asked.
"Yeah, I went back because besides the Kinston Family, I had no other ho," he said calmly.
Other ho...was it his and his mother’s ho? But at that ti, his mother had already passed away.
While Mabel was lost in thought, suddenly the sound of firecrackers echoed from ahead. Mabel looked up to see a parade passing by, with the crowd surging in their direction.
