"What is this celebrating?" Mabel Quinn asked curiously.
"It’s the celebration of Lord Neptune. Falling City is surrounded by the sea on three sides, so the people here also pray for Neptune’s blessing, to ensure their family’s safety while traveling," Kyle Kinston explained.
As the parade drew closer, Mabel indeed saw many people singing and dancing, dressed as various sea creatures, and so people holding banners with auspicious phrases on them.
The crowd grew larger, and Mabel was nearly tripped by the surging crowd. If Kyle hadn’t pulled her up, she would have fallen.
Kyle wrapped his arm around Mabel’s shoulder, carefully avoiding the crowd. Since their bodies were close, Mabel could sense his tension, and his eyes kept scanning the surroundings, a vigilant look on his face.
"What’s wrong?" Mabel also got tense, "Is sothing going to happen?"
Kyle hesitated for a mont, then chuckled softly, "Nothing’s going to happen. It’s just my habit to stay alert when there are lots of people, especially in such close proximity to strangers."
Only then did Mabel suddenly realize, Kyle... he wasn’t like her, just an ordinary civilian. His status is much higher, and so is the personal danger he faces.
Usually, he is accompanied by guards and bodyguards to ensure his safety, but now, he is amidst the crowd, watching the parade with her.
"Then let’s quickly move away from such a crowded place, and what about those who are supposed to protect you..." Mabel said hurriedly.
"It’s alright, I’m not that easily endangered. Besides, there are people protecting ; you just didn’t notice. Don’t worry, in Falling City, there’s hardly anyone who dares to make a move on ," he replied lightly. What he didn’t ntion was that over the years in Falling City, the reason no one dared to touch a Kinston was built on countless sacrifices.
If soone did target a mber of the Kinston Family, it would certainly trigger a mad retaliation. The Kinston Family has never held back against enemies, and their vengeance would only be more intense.
Generation after generation, using such iron-fisted ans to demonstrate the inviolability of the Kinston Family.
As a result, in the minds of those in Falling City, the Kinston Family is not to be provoked. Provoking them would not only implicate oneself but also one’s entire family and even friends.
Such a concept is deeply ingrained, even among the fiercest criminals in Falling City.
After hearing Kyle’s explanation, Mabel felt relieved. Despite this, they still tried to avoid the crowd as much as possible. Suddenly, sothing soft clung to Mabel’s thigh.
Mabel was startled and looked down to find a three or four-year-old boy hugging her leg, calling out "Mommy, mommy..."
Mabel was stunned, crouched down, and carefully examined the child. The little boy seed to realize that the person before him wasn’t his mommy, and imdiately burst into tears.
"There, there, don’t cry, don’t cry," Mabel quickly comforted the child, took out a tissue to wipe his tears, and looked around but didn’t see anyone like parents searching for a child.
"Can you tell big sister your na? Did you co out with your mom today? What does your mom look like?" Mabel asked softly on purpose.
