And her, I suppose today she’ll be eating dumplings with her family, watching the Lantern Festival gala on TV, sothing like that.

He could almost imagine it, and as he thought about it, a trace of a smile appeared on his lips, as if just thinking of her in his annoyance made him a bit happier.

Dorian Howards picked up his phone, looked at Alice Conley’s na in his contacts, but ultimately didn’t press the call button. Perhaps she doesn’t really want to see him, so better to let her enjoy a peaceful Lantern Festival. He’ll just stay at the entrance of the neighborhood for a while—consider it keeping her company.

Thinking this, he put his phone away, then quietly closed his eyes, leaning back on the car seat. Flashes of their past interactions played across his mind, so sweet.

But the sweeter they were, the more pain he felt. Had those three months exhausted all the happiness he could ever have in life?

Suddenly, he heard a knocking sound on the car window. Dorian Howards opened his eyes to see a familiar face pressed against the window, looking inside.

For a mont, he felt as if he were dreaming.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

The knocking on the window sounded again, jolting him awake. Well, it wasn’t a dream; it was really that girl, Alice Conley!

Dorian shivered in excitent and quickly rolled down the window.

"What are you doing here at this late hour?" asked Alice Conley.

"I just ca out from Kyle’s place, decided to stop by and see you," Dorian Howards replied, "And you, what are you doing out so late?" He glanced at her; she was wearing the pink cat cotton pajama set he’d seen on her before, with a long black down jacket over it.

"My mouse batteries died, so I went to the convenience store to buy so," she said.

"Then get in the car, I’ll give you a ride," he offered.

She looked at his car, then at the direction to the convenience store. It was at most a five-minute walk there—driving would be a bit extravagant.

But after thinking about it, Alice decided to get in the car.

Dorian drove to the convenience store, parked the car, and went in with Alice.

Alice quickly found the AA batteries she needed and asked Dorian, "Didn’t you go back to Falling City to spend the Lantern Festival with your family?"

"Had sothing to do, so I didn’t go back," he replied. His focus today had been on how to get through the evening with Kyle, leaving no room for celebrating the Lantern Festival, though he did call his family to greet them.

"What did you have for dinner? Did you eat dumplings?" she asked as she walked to the Cashier Counter.

"Haven’t had dinner yet; I’ll grab sothing to eat in a bit," Dorian said.

Alice was stunned, glancing at the ti—it was almost 9 PM, and he still hadn’t eaten dinner. While she was in a daze, he already paid for her batteries.

"Here, your batteries." He handed the batteries to her, then noticed she was looking at him with a particularly sympathetic gaze.

This sympathetic gaze made him feel as if she was looking at a stray cat or dog by the roadside.

"Okay, then I’ll treat you to so dumplings—can’t have Lantern Festival without dumplings!" she said, as she proactively pulled him out of the convenience store.
