"I... I’ll call an ambulance right now, just hold on a little longer." She hurriedly took out her phone, intending to dial 911.
But she had just pressed two numbers on her phone when suddenly, he lunged at her.
Her phone fell to the ground, and she was knocked to the floor by him.
It hurt so much! Mabel Quinn felt a sharp pain in the back of her head and back, making her dizzy. But before she could recover from the pain, Kyle Kinston was already on top of her.
She almost couldn’t catch her breath.
"Kyle, get up, don’t... don’t press on ..." she shouted.
But he seed not to hear and held her tightly with his hands. His fingers dug into her painfully, as if trying to skin her alive.
It was even more painful than just falling on the ground!
"Kyle, you..."
"Help ..." His sudden plea left her speechless. Was he asking her for help? Such a proud man, asking soone to save him? It seed almost unbelievable.
"I... I plan to help you, but first let go of so I can grab the phone and call for help!" Mabel said.
Yet he stubbornly clung to her, like a drowning man clinging to driftwood, unwilling to let go.
As things were, she couldn’t reach the phone, let alone call for help.
Mabel thought for a mont, guessing perhaps Kyle had already been driven mad by the pain, which was why he was asking her for help. Otherwise, wouldn’t it be easier for him to call for help himself?
"Okay, I’ll save you, I’ll save you, you’ll be alright, you’ll get better! Just take deep breaths, relax, relax!" She comforted him, while her slightly movable hands gently stroked his back, rhythmically patting it. After a while, Mabel realized he was having a seizure, not needing comfort like a crying child. What if she made his condition worse by patting him like this?
But then she sensed his body calming down. If his body had been heaving from breath initially, now his breathing was much steadier, and his body wasn’t as tense.
Did this an her actions and words were working? With that in mind, Mabel doubled her efforts, repeating her words and actions, gently patting his back while saying, "I’ll save you, I’ll definitely save you, so don’t worry, relax, you’ll be fine..."
Just as she was contemplating asking him to get up so she could grab her phone nearby and dial ergency services, he suddenly spoke, "Why did you co in again?" His voice was very hoarse and faint, as if he barely had the strength to speak. If not listened to carefully, it would be hard to make out what he was saying.
"Just think of it as being righteous and brave." She said, not quite able to explain herself why she ca back in. She was afraid of him, wary of him, and hated how he wanted to control her life. Yet, upon hearing his painful cries, her body moved inside as if beyond her control.
