Chapter 732: Tipping The Balance In Their Favor
As Alex escorted Lapiz away from the dance floor, Aeris stood in place, waiting for them to arrive at her location.
However, as if sensing her sister wanted to talk to her, Lapiz gently swerved Alex toward her brother, Prince Kaelen, who was looking at her sister with a smile.
Not wanting to make a scene, Aeris calmly approached her siblings as soon as Alex finally left for his table.
“I thought we had an agreement that you won’t dance with Alex,” Aeris whispered in Lapiz’s ear.
“We did,” Lapiz replied. “But I changed my mind when you danced with him.”
“What do you mean?” Aeris frowned.
“I find it unfair that you can dance with him, but I can’t.”
“Lapiz, I was doing that for you. I want to protect you.”
“Protect me from who?” Lapiz smiled wryly. “From Alex?”
“Yes. He is a womanizer, you know? He also has a very bad reputation in the academy.”
“And yet, you just danced with that exact man with a bad reputation as a womanizer. Sister, I don’t think what you’re saying makes sense to anyone.”
Aeris’ eyes widened in shock. This was the first time her sister spoke up to her like this.
Usually, Lapiz would just nod and agree to whatever she told her.
The only time they had a falling out was when Lapiz left the Obsidian Fang and joined Alex’s club, Endless Horizon.
She no longer wished to be pared to her sister within the club, and it also weighed heavier and heavier on her mind.
But seeing Lapiz speak up to her like this, Aeris wondered if Alex had done something to her sister to make her suddenly rebellious.
“Did Alex tell you something?” Aeris asked. “The two of you were talking while you danced.”
“Yes,” Lapiz replied. “He said that he will do everything in his power to save mother.”
Prince Kaelen, who noticed that his two sisters were acting strangely, decided to interrupt their conversation and pointed to their own tables.
“Sisters, if you want to talk, maybe it will be better if we do it there instead?” Prince Kaelen proposed. “It might be bad if people think that both of you are fighting.”
Upon hearing his words, the two elven princesses calmed down for a bit before walking toward their table with their brother.
Meanwhile, Alex found himself facing Astrea, who offered him a glass of fruit juice.
“You’ve been dancing since earlier,” Astrea said. “You must be thirsty. Care for a drink?”
“Thank you,” Alex replied and accepted the glass offered to him. After drinking half of it, the young man smiled and asked Astrea a question.
“I saw you talking with Lapiz earlier, but I noticed there was another lady by her side. Is she from Solara Academy?”
“Ah, that girl? I’m sorry, but I also don’t know who she is. Though, she was encouraging Lapiz to dance with you?”
“She did?” Alex frowned before scanning his surroundings to look for the girl who had been beside the elven princess earlier. However, he couldn’t find her at the moment.
“What’s wrong?” Astrea asked. “Do you plan to invite her to a dance?”
“No.” Alex shook his head. “I was just curious because I’m not familiar with her.”
“Then, do you plan to dance with anyone else tonight?” Astrea inquired.
She was talking in a carefree manner, so Alex didn’t think much about it. However, the young lady noticed that her brother was making his way toward her direction, so she decided to make a strategic retreat.
Though, before leaving, she made a request to Alex.
“The last dance for tonight,” Astrea said in a hurry. “Please reserve it for me. See you later.”
She didn’t even wait for Alex’s reply as she made a hasty escape toward the buffet area of the hall.
He could only look at her retreating back with amusement because Astrea was being herself.
Then again, he didn’t expect that she would ask him to dance with her.
The last dance in every party was reserved for couples. Since it was the final song, it was longer than usual, giving the dancers more time to spend with each other.
Seeing that his sister was now headed to the buffet area, Cassian gave Alex a brief nod before walking past him.
With nothing else to do, the young man returned to the table, where his lovers waited for him.
“Wele back,” Fran greeted with a smile.
Alex smiled and cuddled with the dwarf lady, whose face immediately turned beet red once more.
“Fran, it seems that Alex can’t get enough of you,” Evangeline said in a teasing tone. “By the way, I reserved a room in that popular hotel tonight under Alex’s name. Why don’t the two of you go there after the party is finished?”
Fran’s face became a shade redder, while Alex gave Evangeline a thumbs-up in his heart.
Latifa only smiled faintly in response, while Lulu clapped her hands happily. She even said something along the lines of, “It seems like Alex will be eating some cherries tonight,” prompting Fran to bury her head into Alex’s chest from embarrassment.
“Lulu, don’t tease her too much,” Alex said calmly.
“So, you don’t plan to eat cherries tonight?” Lulu arched an eyebrow.
“No ment.”
“Pathetic.”
“This girl…” Alex didn’t know whether he should laugh or cry because Lulu was being unhinged right now.
The only saving grace was that their table was a good distance from the other tables, so no one could hear what they were discussing.
“By the way, what did you talk about with Lapiz earlier?” Lavinia asked with genuine curiosity.
“It’s about saving her mother by going to Hy-Brasil,” Alex replied.
At the mention of Hy-Brasil, the smiling ladies earlier immediately turned serious.
They knew that Alex had planned to go to Hy-Brasil and had asked for their help.
If it was someone else asking this favor, they wouldn’t hesitate to turn it down.
However, Alex was different. The ladies around him wouldn’t sit back and watch him head to a dangerous place alone.
Naturally, he told them that it was going to be a dangerous mission. Yet, none of them could be convinced to back down.
He also mentioned that aside from them, Aeris and Lapiz would also go to Hy-Brasil with him.
Since Aeris was one of the Heroines, Alex believed that she needed to be in Hy-Brasil to help save her mother.
As for Lapiz, she also made a decision to go with them. If they left her behind, she would just feel too anxious to do anything.
“So, when are we going to Hy-Brasil?” Latifa asked.
“On the night of the full moon, which is two days from now,” Alex replied. “We will depart in the morning and head to the location where I believe it will appear by night.”
All the ladies nodded in understanding.
For this mission, they planned to borrow Princess Xenia’s flying ship.
However, she only agreed on the condition that she would also e with them to Hy-Brasil.
Since Alex planned to bring Chuck with him, the princess insisted that she couldn’t be left behind.
If the princess was there, then Mary would also be with her.
Vaan was also tagging along for the ride.
In fact, Alex believed that having Vaan with them was some sort of insurance. This was especially true since he was now an Apostle of one of the Major Arcanas of the world.
They were all charging toward the unknown, and having the Apostle of the Chariot acpany them might just tip the balance in their favor.
