Chapter 733: Oops! I Slipped!
The party was finally entering its final phase.
The earlier excitement had died down a bit, and the students had started chatting casually, exchanging gossip with each other.
Some of them were already preparing to retire for the night, while the rest stayed put, planning to stay a little bit longer to see if something interesting would happen at the end of the party.
Astrea walked along the event hall in a carefree manner, making sure she wouldn’t trip like always.
She wasn’t really clumsy. But due to circumstances outside of her control, people thought she was an airhead and a klutz.
A terrible bination.
However, since she was beautiful, a good singer, and was a bundle of positivity on top of that, she was able to make all these small inconveniences negligible.
Her brother was watching her from a distance. Though, since she didn’t seem to plan anything reckless at the moment, he was more than satisfied to let her wander freely.
But then, something happened.
When the conductor of the orchestra announced that the last song would soon be played, Astrea changed the direction of her steps.
Then, as if ing to an understanding, Alex stood up from his table and moved toward her.
“Will you honor me with a dance, My Lady?” Alex asked.
“It is my honor to dance with you, Sir Alex,” Astrea said in a teasing tone.
Lapiz watched this scene from her table with a smile. Since Astrea had declared her plan to dance with Alex earlier, she had waited for them to head to the dance floor all this time.
Now, she understood what the young lady was planning.
She wanted to save the best for last… as well as escape from her brother’s overprotective gaze.
Cassian could only watch as Alex took his sister to the dance floor.
He wasn’t aware that his sister had planned this beforehand and simply thought that Alex purposely targeted his innocent, kindhearted, and overly trusting little sister.
A little sister who could brighten an entire room just by smiling.
“Why is your brother looking at me like he’s planning to feed me to the fishes later?” Alex asked after sensing the intense gaze Cassian was giving him.
His words made Astrea giggle in response.
It was then that the music finally started.
Alex put his right hand on her waist and clasped her hand with his left.
In return, Astrea rested her left hand on Alex’s shoulder before moving with him in sync with the music.
“Alex, thank you for dancing with Lapiz earlier,” Astrea said. “She gathered all of her courage just so she could dance with you.”
“You make it sound like I’m such a dangerous person,” Alex replied with a smile.
“But you are a dangerous person,” Astrea stated. “You’re the only First Year who’s on the hit list of the Demon Worshipers. It seems that you like to live your life dangerously.”
Alex chuckled. “When you put it that way, it does sound a little concerning.”
“A little?” Astrea tilted her head. “The Demon Worshipers literally want to kill you.”
“I know.”
“And yet you’re so nonchalant about it.”
For a while, the two simply danced in silence.
The orchestra played a slow, elegant melody, while dozens of couples moved around the dance floor.
Unlike the earlier dances, this one felt calmer.
More intimate.
Alex saw Chuck dancing with Princess Xenia not far from them.
Dim Dim and Eiko were also dancing with each other. The funny thing was that right beside them, Lily and Cupid were also dancing with each other.
The two Gods served as Dim Dim’s and Eiko’s chaperones during the party, making sure that the Fairy Princess didn’t accidentally drop a Blast Bomb that would make the place go… Boom!
Alex then looked to his left, only to see Charles and Nessia dancing with each other.
To his surprise, he also saw Renard dancing with Lady Celestria, which made the corner of his lips rise into a smirk.
Everyone was dancing with their lovers for the last dance, something unanimously meant for couples.
Perhaps only Alex and Astrea were out of place among the many dancers in the dance hall.
The two of them were just friends and didn’t have a deep relationship with each other.
They only grew closer during the preparation for the Inter-Academy Tournament.
But now, the two of them were dancing the last dance as if it was the most normal thing to do.
“Alex, who are you really?” Astrea suddenly asked a question that came out of nowhere.
“Alex Stratos,” Alex replied.
“Fine. Keep your secrets.” Astrea pouted at those words, which made her look very cute in his eyes.
The two continued to dance, doing playful banter as they moved together.
This was probably the first time he was talking to Astrea in such close proximity that he couldn’t help but look at her with amusement.
Though, just as the final melody of the song was about to be played, Astrea accidentally took the wrong step and tripped over Alex.
With his guard down, the young man was pletely taken by surprise, making him fall on his back.
Since he was holding onto Astrea, the young lady fell on top of him, causing the other dancers and the spectators to look in their direction.
That was when they saw something that no one expected.
Astrea’s lips were pressed onto Alex’s while the young man’s hands were wrapped around her waist.
Of course, the young man did that to prevent Astrea from getting hurt, using his own back to break the fall.
Astrea, who also realized what had happened, pulled her head back a little.
“Are you alright?” Alex asked. “Are you hurt anywhere?”
He was also surprised about getting an “accidental” kiss from Astrea, but his priority was to check if she had been hurt.
“I’m fine,” Astrea replied. “How about you?”
“I’m tougher than I look,” Alex answered. “It’s a good thing you’re not hurt.”
Astrea looked down at Alex, and he looked back at her.
Suddenly, the young lady felt a weight press over the back of her head, which made her kiss Alex a second time.
“Oops!” Cupid said. “I slipped!”
The God of Love hurriedly pulled his hand back from Astrea’s head.
Lily gave Cupid the “who are you kidding?” gaze after seeing that.
Yet, what was done was done.
Astrea raised her head a little, clearly surprised by what just happened.
But it was then that a thought crossed over her mind.
Without anyone manipulating her, she gave Alex’s lips a quick peck before using his body to prop herself up.
Alex blinked once, then twice, because he had no idea what just happened.
Astrea looked down at him, and for the briefest of moments, the young man saw her lick her lips before she hurried away with a posture that indicated she had done something mischievous.
The dancers who saw such a scene could only look at Alex, who was still lying on the ground, with knowing smiles on their faces.
They already concluded that the young man had done that on purpose to steal a kiss from the lips of the young lady who just left the ballroom with a beet-red face.
Alex stood up and subconsciously traced his lips with his finger.
It was then that he sensed a chilling pressure from behind him.
Slowly turning his head, he found Cassian standing at the edge of the dance floor, staring at him with the smile of a man who had already decided where to bury Alex’s body.
“Alex Stratos,” Cassian said in a calm voice that somehow sounded more terrifying than a shout. “Would you kindly explain why you kissed my sister three times?”
The entire ballroom fell silent.
Alex could already feel that no matter what kind of explanation he gave Cassian, the latter would pin the accident as his fault despite the fact that he was pletely innocent!
