"..."
Rudy anxiously waited for Jessica to say sothing, but only t with silence, which made his worry grow even more.
In the end, he nervously gulped down and looked into Jessica's eyes before asking, "Is everything alright?"
"Did you bring her here by yourself?" Jessica asked with a serious look on her face.
"Yes!" Rudy replied imdiately.
"Did she ask you to bring her to the hospital?"
"No." Rudy shook his head and continued, "She passed out while walking and I was—"
Without listening to Rudy's explanation, Jessica rolled the reports in her hands and smacked Rudy's head with it.
"You idiot!"
"What?" Rudy was confused yet curious at the sa ti.
Jessica closed the distance between and whispered, "She is on her periods."
"..." Rudy was speechless for a few seconds until Jessica asked him a question.
"Are you feeling stupid?"
"No. She had a fever, and she didn't look good. I am glad that I brought her here. I don't want to take a single risk when it cos to her," Rudy responded with a composed look on his face.
"Hmm~" Jessica humd in amusent. "You care about her that much, huh?"
"Of course. She is the most important person in my life!" He replied without a hint of hesitation on his face.
Although Jessica was happy to hear that, deep down, she felt jealous of Rebecca.
"What about , then?" She ended up asking without thinking.
"Well…" Rudy took a mont to ponder. 'To be honest, she is still more of a stranger to , but… for so reason… I feel like I have always been with her. I don't know where she was in the previous tiline, but I have this weird feeling that… she was closer to than anyone else. Maybe it's because my mories are sealed and I can't rember anything about her.'
"Well, what?" Jessica asked with her eyes squinted, seemingly ready to give another smack to Rudy if his answer didn't satisfy her.
"You are more like a sister to . A best friend. You co in a different category, so you shouldn't feel bad about it. You are as important to as mom," Rudy responded with a charming smile on his face.
"Hmm~"
After a few minutes of paperwork, the doctor told Jessica that they could take Rebecca ho.
"What do you want to do?" Jessica asked Rudy. "She is currently sleeping. We could wake her up and take her ho in a cab."
"What's the other option?" Rudy wondered.
"I still have a few things to do at work. It's mostly teaching a new intern who is going to work in my stead. It will take a few hours. If you are okay with it, we can take her ho in my car once I am finished. But you will have to wait until then."
Rudy could choose the first option and teleport to his house after Jessica had left, but he wanted to have a chat with Kaguya, so he chose the latter option.
"Okay." Jessica nodded. "I will try to finish as soon as possible."
Rudy calmly sat outside the room for a few minutes. He was waiting for the family of the other patient to co out of the nurse's room.
About fifteen minutes later, Rudy finally got a chance to enter the nurse's room. Kaguya was writing a report, and she glanced at Rudy when he entered, but didn't say anything. Rudy sat in the chair by the table and watched Kaguya work.
After glancing at Rudy a couple of tis, Kaguya let out a short sigh and asked, "Do you need anything?"
"Uhm… no."
"..." Kaguya's hand stopped for a mont, but soon continued writing.
It was obvious that Rudy was distracting her, but Kaguya's kind nature stopped her from asking Rudy to leave the room.
"How are you doing?" Rudy broke the silence.
"Hmm?"
"Is everything alright with… your life?" he asked awkwardly.
"Yeah. Thanks for asking."
"Umm… so I have another question I want to ask."
"Go ahead." She nodded slowly, but continued to write the report.
"Since the apocalypse changed the lives of millions… no, billions of people, how did it affect you? Like, for example, students all over the world were affected greatly and their academic lives beca a ss. It also affected many jobs and destroyed the lives of many.
Those who survived the onslaught of the monsters were destroyed by the financial problems. Many people lost their close friends, relatives, and family mbers. However, it wasn't bad for everyone.
For so people, it was a golden opportunity. Millions of them beca rich and gained fa. Oh, I am not talking about the heroes, by the way. They have every right to be what they are. They risked their lives, after all.
So I was wondering how was your life during that?"
After a brief silence, Kaguya looked at Rudy for a few seconds and asked, "Do I have to answer it?"
"If you can."
"Does it matter? I an… is it important?"
"Let's say I am doing research for school. I won't ntion your na or anything, so you don't have to worry about that." Rudy reassured her with a smile on his face.
"Hmm. It was my dream to be a nurse… well, a doctor, actually. I am currently studying and I will soon beco one," she responded calmly.
'Oh! She couldn't beco a doctor in the previous tiline! I am happy to know that she can achieve her dream in this one.' Rudy uttered inwardly.
"It was a year after the apocalypse started. The economy had collapsed, and it was the ti of crisis. The only way to survive was to beco a hero. I started my journey as a hunter. As you know, the only way to be a hero is to enter the tower and clear the trial floor."
Rudy nodded and added, "That's where you get a system— which is essential to beco a hero and unlock superhuman abilities."
