Though they were many, the individual strength of the attacking beasts was not high.
Most of them were only Knight Apprentices, with only a small percentage of them reaching the True Knight rank.
Even these, however, fell under the barrage of tal arrows, collapsing to the ground and becoming part of the mountain of corpses.
Originally, the formation of the humans seed impenetrable, as if no beast could possibly enter their city.
But not long after Liora’s arrival, a sudden change occurred.
A black figure sprang out of the wave of beasts and rushed towards the stone walls.
The figure’s speed was extrely quick, leaving only afterimages behind. It was impossible for ordinary humans to catch a glimpse of its outline.
But standing on top of the wall, Liora could easily see the figure’s true appearance.
It was a massive wolf—more than five ters tall—with thick black fur and three heads on its shoulders.
Its three mouths were open, revealing the many rows of razor-sharp teeth inside, which dripped with an unknown liquid that fell on the ground and corroded it.
Each ti the wolf took a step, the ground beneath it would shake, as if it could cause an earthquake on its own.
Liora ignored its appearance. She had seen much more terrifying creatures during her stay in the Crucible.
What caught Liora’s attention was actually the strength of the Wolf Beast.
In her senses, its strength had reached the peak of the True Knight rank, surpassing any other among the many beasts.
Moreover, as a beast, its combat power could not be judged according to common sense.
In Liora’s estimate, this wolf should be able to fight against a human Great Knight, and it could escape unhard even if it suffered a defeat.
Seeing the Beast Wolf charging towards the stone wall, Liora’s eyes narrowed.
She didn’t rush to take action.
She believed that the human side should have already accounted for the ergence of such beasts.
Even without her, the Knights and soldiers should be able to deal with it.
Perhaps this was an opportunity for her to witness the famous Duchess’s many tricks.
Sure enough, when the Wolf Beast was a few hundred ters away from the wall and looked about to smash into it with a leap, the entrance of the city slowly opened.
A small team of Knights stepped out of it, wearing thick tal armor and holding large shields that were taller than they were.
With no hesitation, the Knights rushed towards the Wolf Beast, stopping in front of it and bringing down their shields to block its path.
Their actions proved effective. The charge of the wolf indeed stopped.
However, the Knights paid a price.
The mont the Wolf Beast smashed into the shields, its movents halted.
Yet, it reacted quickly.
Its three heads stooped down and opened wide before each of them grabbed a Knight and swallowed them whole.
Then, with fresh blood still on its mouths, it pounced onto its other prey.
The Knights were unable to put up a fight.
Before long, they all ended up becoming the Wolf Beast’s food, their flesh shredded like paper.
Blood splattered and painted the wolf’s razor-sharp teeth, making the scene eerie and terrifying.
The wolf raised its heads and howled towards the sky before resuming its earlier charge.
But the soldiers on the wall didn’t flinch.
It was as if they knew sothing that the wolf didn’t.
Indeed, just when the wolf was about to reach the walls, its movents suddenly paused.
Its red, bloodthirsty eyes beca clear for a brief second, as its body began convulsing.
The next mont, its flesh ripped apart, and green liquid flowed out of the cracks, while the Wolf’s aura grew increasingly weaker.
A loud, painful cry followed.
Watching this from the top of the wall, Liora imdiately realized what was going on.
"Using one’s body as a way to feed the beast poison. How cruel. But also... how admirable.", she whispered, understanding that this had been the defenders’ plan from the beginning.
Knowing that they could not kill the Wolf Beast unless a Great Knight stepped forward, the Knights rushed out and sacrificed their own lives to bring it down.
Though Duchess Lobelia had not appeared, Liora knew that this should have been done under her instructions.
The sacrifice of her own people was ruthless.
But at the sa ti, it was extrely effective.
Liora could see that the aura of the Wolf Beast was growing weaker at a rapid pace. If nothing changed, it would die not long after.
Liora wouldn’t let such an opportunity go.
With a move of her mind, a bow of darkness materialized in her hands, and after conjuring up an arrow, she fired it at the helpless Wolf Beast.
The wolf would have found it difficult to defend against her attacks even if it had not been injured, much less now.
It was unable to put up any resistance.
Liora’s arrow easily pierced through its head, blasting its brain into pieces and harvesting its life.
Then, under the strange gazes of the soldiers, Liora calmly waved her hand and controlled the corpse to fly towards her.
Her right hand clenched into a fist, and she punched forward, smashing the corpse into pieces and erasing it from existence, as if to take out her anger for her fallen companions.
Or at the very least, that was what the soldiers on the wall believed.
In reality, Liora had secretly placed the wolf corpse inside the Space Orb, planning to keep it later to assist her Knight training.
With that done, Liora’s focus returned to reality.
She didn’t take any further action, letting the soldiers on the wall kill the weak beasts.
Silently, she was waiting for the next powerful beast to appear.
At the sa ti, her right hand moved erratically, and countless white lights invisible to other people gathered in her palm.
The mont they touched her skin, these lights imdiately vanished.
Liora watched her Evolution Points rise at the corner of her vision, and she couldn’t help but let out a smile.
She felt that her idea to co to the border was correct.
Here, she could not only easily obtain beast corpses to speed up her Knight training, but could also harvest a wave of souls—both of the beasts and the dead humans.
"The Evolution Points granted by each soul are minuscule, not even worth the effort of going through the process to kill them. But considering the large volu of souls, I should end up with a great harvest.", she analyzed.
To tell the truth, Liora missed the days back in the Crucible, when she had reached the top of the ecosystem and could casually harvest souls without any worries.
Unfortunately, with her "ascension" to the Demon World and the subsequent descent to this world, she had to carefully consider every one of her actions.
Especially when she learned that a True Devil had descended into this world before her and the two were bound to beco enemies, her actions beca even more cautious.
It was only now, when she had regained most of her strength and was confident enough to protect herself, that her true nature was gradually revealed.
With each soul harvested, the crimson in her eyes grew deeper.
Unbeknownst to everyone, a change of ntality was quietly taking place in Liora’s mind.
However, it remained to be seen if this was a good or a bad thing for the rest of this world.
