And so, the scene descended into a very awkward stalemate.

The veteran police chief remained unmoved by these words.
Seeing this, Zhou Zhenghua frowned. He thought the chief was disagreeing and was about to produce the official docuntation from the Tai Luo Kingdom when the veteran police chief finally reacted.
He snapped out of it and, looking at Zhou Zhenghua as if seeing a savior, exclaid, "You’re finally here! We’ve been waiting for you. I’ll leave the rest to you!"
Without waiting for Zhou Zhenghua to respond, the veteran police chief returned Zhang Beixing’s identification papers to him, then waved his hand and led the special police away as if fleeing the scene.
Only when he was in the car, watching the roadside scenery recede outside the window, did the veteran police chief finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Seriously? I said I’d take over the case, but did they really need to bolt that quickly? They could have at least done a handover, told what happened before! What the hell is going on?! What on earth did Zhang Beixing do to you all before I got here to make you react like this?!
Zhou Zhenghua’s mouth twitched; he clearly couldn’t make heads or tails of the situation.
