Laxus erupted all at once, driving his fist into Alexei and sending him flying into the wall at the edge of the arena.
A great cloud of dust burst outward with a boom.
"Cough, cough, cough…"
Violent coughing rang out as Alexei slowly pushed himself up from the ground. He reached up, removed his mask, and revealed a cold, sinister smile.
"My dear son, Laxus. You know I'm your father, and yet you still hit that hard?"
Laxus frowned.
He looked around at the space that had suddenly darkened, ignoring Ivan's mocking tone as he asked in a low voice.
"What are you trying to do?"
The audience around them seed to be watching an entirely different match.
On the arena floor, there was another Laxus and another Alexei fighting, and in that illusion, Laxus was the one being beaten one-sidedly.
'Illusion Magic…?'
Ivan patted the dust from his clothes and gave a aningful smile.
"Look at that. Your comrades are so worried about you. Unfortunately, all they're destined to see is the sight of overwhelming you."
"To go this far for sothing so stupid…"
Laxus was completely unmoved.
Folding his arms, he said coldly, "Once I beat you here, the illusion will break on its own. Is this all you know how to do? Petty tricks to fool yourself?"
"Stupid?"
Ivan's face, which resembled neither Makarov's nor Laxus's, tightened.
His features twisted as he burst into laughter.
The evil Magic Power around him thickened, then he raised a hand toward the sky and snapped his fingers.
Footsteps sounded behind Laxus.
He did not turn around.
He sensed the Magic Power of the four people approaching and instantly identified them.
"So you're bringing everyone in. Not very confident, are you?"
Laxus's eyes were filled with disdain, as if the entire Raven Tail guild coming at him together ant nothing at all.
Ivan, Obra, and the others surrounded him, their gazes dark and vicious.
"Even you cannot win against Raven Tail's elite unit."
"My foolish son, why don't you behave and negotiate with instead?"
Ivan stared at his biological son, whose presence and spirit were nothing like his own.
His eyes were feverish as he hurriedly demanded, "Tell where Lun Histoire is!"
Laxus frowned and repeated the words. "Lun Histoire?"
"Don't play dumb. Makarov would never tell sothing like that, but you're different. You're the grandson he placed all his hopes on."
Ivan's voice grew urgent.
He was clearly irritated by Laxus's confused reaction.
Laxus had no interest in lying about sothing like this, so he said plainly, "Sorry, but I have no idea what Lun Histoire even is."
Ivan clearly did not believe him. His wrinkled old face turned vicious.
"Impossible! That is sothing every Fairy Tail guild master and successor must know!"
"Then maybe Ankh knows," Laxus said, too lazy to explain further. "Besides, even if I did know, I wouldn't tell you."
"Hey, hey! Do you even understand who you're facing?"
Ivan raised both arms, his expression savage as he threatened him.
"If you tell , I'll let you win easily. You'll still be Laxus, the man respected by everyone in your guild. But if you don't…"
"Then this won't end with sothing as simple as a humiliating defeat in front of everyone!"
Ivan and the four behind him released their Magic Power at the sa ti.
That evil, viscous magic spread outward, carrying an eerie and unnatural feeling.
Laxus silently threw off his coat, sighed, and raised one hand. His fingers crooked slightly as his sharp gaze settled on them.
"All you know are petty sches. No wonder the old man kicked you out of the guild."
"Co on."
A vein bulged on Ivan's forehead.
"You bastard!"
"I'll show you the power of a guild built specifically to counter Fairy Tail!"
With that roar, Ivan unleashed his Magic.
Countless paper dolls swirled into a storm and crashed toward Laxus.
Lightning coiled around Laxus's right arm, and he blocked Ivan's paper doll attack with ease. He still did not forget to sneer.
"Built specifically to counter Fairy Tail? Don't make laugh. The old man already investigated everything about your guild."
Ivan's pupils shrank.
A certain face suddenly appeared in his mind, and he muttered, "Gajeel?"
"Damn it! That guy really was a double agent!" Nullpudding growled furiously.
"It's hard to imagine soone like him was actually capable of that kind of work…"
(Gajeel: Achoo!)
Lightning flared brilliantly around Laxus.
Kurohebi appeared behind him for a sneak attack, only for Laxus to seize him by the neck as easily as catching a rat, then slam him straight into the ground.
"The only reason he didn't make a move against you was because, for the past seven years, you didn't attack everyone in the guild."
"He was giving you a chance the entire ti!"
"Shut up!"
Ivan roared like a madman and activated his Magic again.
Thousands upon thousands of paper dolls ford a white tide that swallowed Laxus's figure.
"How could those fools who stayed in the guild possibly know where that thing is?!"
Flare lashed out with her scorching red hair. Nullpudding swung his massive hamr down toward Laxus's head.
Obra took advantage of the opening and tried to erase Laxus's Magic Power.
Raven Tail's combined assault closed in, and Ivan's frenzied voice rang out.
"I've waited in the darkness for far too long for this day!"
"Laxus, you're my son, aren't you?!"
"Hurry up and tell where that thing is!"
Listening to Ivan's hysterical voice, Laxus finally discarded the last trace of warmth in his eyes.
Facing the attacks pouring down from every direction, he said calmly, "The only family I have is everyone in the guild."
Under Ivan's terrified gaze, the golden lightning around Laxus suddenly blazed with ferocious intensity. I
n the next instant, his body flashed forward, closing the distance between them in a single breath.
"Lightning Dragon's Breakdown Fist!"
Laxus's fist, wrapped in lightning, smashed rcilessly into Ivan's twisted face.
The terrifying lightning Magic, combined with explosive physical power, made Ivan's vision go black.
The blow nearly knocked him unconscious on the spot.
"Master!"
The remaining mbers had only just cried out in concern when that wild streak of rushing lightning had already charged into their midst.
"You're the woman who dared to threaten Lucy with Asuka, aren't you?"
Laxus looked at the startled Flare and grabbed the hair she had whipped toward him.
He swung her around like a teor hamr and hurled her violently into the sky, then tilted his head back and fired a roar that shocked her until she was charred black.
Nullpudding, furious and alard, swung his spiked club.
But before he could bring it down, Laxus seized both of his arms, then drove his own head down viciously.
"You targeted Gray. You can pay for that too!"
With a lightning-charged headbutt, Nullpudding, who had always worn that arrogant expression, rolled his eyes back and fainted on the spot.
Then a mysterious cloaked man suddenly appeared behind Laxus.
Laxus had already sensed his presence. His voice grew even colder.
"And you… you're the bastard who ambushed Wendy and Carla, aren't you?"
"Lightning Dragon's Heavenward Halberd!"
Laxus ford an enormous halberd with his bare hands, then turned, twisted his waist, and threw it with all his strength.
The halberd tore through the night like a golden teor, piercing straight through Obra's body without the slightest hesitation.
"It's over, Dad!"
Ivan watched in despair as the son whose strength had far exceeded his estimates slowly clasped his fists together.
Destructive lightning roared and exploded around him.
Laxus let out an almost imperceptible sigh.
Then he raised his clasped hands and roared as he brought them down with all his might toward Ivan, who lay collapsed on the ground.
"An enemy of the guild is an enemy of mine!"
"Lightning Dragon's Jaw!"
