Chapter 1213: 【1213】Test the doctor’s abilities
“You two, stop arguing, the doctor is here.” The onlookers were trying to remind the two of them, but neither of them paid attention to anything being said around them.
The aunt said to the man, “What are you in a hurry for? My mom will finish her check-up, and then it’s your family’s turn. Go sit outside and wait.”
“I was clearly in front of you. Now do I have to give way to you?” The man shouted, utterly unable to tolerate it anymore. How could soone blatantly jump the queue and then act so brazen? Was there any justice in this?
“No, this man ca in after us,” an elderly grandmother, also a patient’s family mber, argued urgently from behind, slapping her thigh as she spoke.
It’s a ss. Who ca first? No one knows. Don’t bother asking the ergency nurses— they’re so busy they’re spinning in circles and can’t possibly pay attention to such details.
The test of a doctor’s non-dical skills had arrived.
“Everyone, you need to step outside,” Xin Yanjun said to all the patients and family mbers crowding the consultation room. It wasn’t possible to provide dical care with so many people packed in there.
“Doctor, we’re here for treatnt.” All the patients and family mbers protested in unison, determined not to leave. Each was terrified of stepping out, fearing they’d lose their turn and be pushed to the back of the queue.
“No, let check your dical records first and call you in one by one.” Xin Yanjun attempted to diffuse the tension building toward an explosive state.
“Then tell whose turn it is,” the man said, waving his number ticket. “I’m first in line— you can ask the nurse.”
“Doctor, I brought my mother here first. She’s lying on that bed outside. The nurse arranged for her to lie down. She has high blood pressure and is dizzy. Doctor, please check my mom first,” the aunt loudly demanded, intentionally raising her voice to overpower the man on the other side.
“You say your mom is lying down because there was a bed available when she arrived. My dad is vomiting to the point he can’t sit still in a chair. Doctor, if you don’t believe , go check outside for yourself and see if my dad’s condition isn’t worse than her mom’s!” The man was on the verge of losing it.
“What about my grandson?” The elderly grandmother cried out, her voice breaking. “His fever won’t go down. Doctor, can you hear the crying outside? That’s my grandson crying! It sounds like he’s about to die.”
That’s the thing— ergency patients were much harder to manage than outpatients. It felt as though one doctor had to split themselves into several.
To be fair, triage nurses would initially take so asures based on a patient’s symptoms upon arrival. For example, those in better condition were told to sit in chairs; those in worse shape would be allowed to lie down on a bed first.
Xin Yanjun was deep in thought.
The tricky thing tonight was that each of these family mbers was tough and unyielding, making it extrely difficult for the doctor to diate. The truth, at this point, had descended into a sort of Rashomon-like scenario— no one could tell who had co for treatnt first.
“Teacher, how about this—I’ll go outside and evaluate the condition of that child to see if we need to notify a pediatrician to co down for a consultation,” Xie Wanying suggested to her ntor.
Xin Yanjun imdiately understood her intent and gave her an approving look: “Good, very calm, and you’ve caught the key point of breaking up the tension.”
The biggest conflict here was among these three families. If they could be pacified, the other patients and family mbers wouldn’t escalate their anxiety, and the likelihood of further conflicts erupting could be minimized. This was critically important for the doctors.
