Chapter 487: VIP Patient Chapter 487: VIP Patient “Was there any dical order given for bed 49 before taking charge?” Sun Yubo asked listlessly.
“No,” Xie Wanying said. “It’s completely blank. Only the patient’s na was written.”
“No one discussed this with during shift change!” Sun Yubo angrily made a call to question Doctor Wu. “You were on duty for group four, didn’t you tell about the situation for bed 49?”
Doctor Wu responded, “You didn’t call ; I thought you knew.”
“Who is it?”
“It seems to be an executive from Guoneng Group who sponsors our dical school. He’s too busy with work, and he’s inford the director and the deputy director that he’ll only be able to be admitted to our hospital late at night. Our hospital has this regulation where patients must stay in the hospital after completing the admission process and cannot leave.”
“You didn’t give any dical orders?”
“What order should I give? We haven’t seen the person. If you see him tonight and think he needs treatnt, then treat him; if not, wait till we co back tomorrow to handle it.”
“What’s the condition?”
“Appendicitis is suspected.”
“Appendicitis can be serious or not!” Sun Yubo stomped on the spot.
“I am aware. But the problem is the leaders decided to agree to this, so what does it have to do with . It’s probably not severe; there’s no perforation or diffuse peritonitis, I guess,” Doctor Wu said.
“What do I need to do when he cos in?”
“As I said, if you think he needs ergency treatnt when he cos in, then do it. If not, we can wait until tomorrow to discuss it,” Doctor Wu said.
Isn’t this just a aningless talk? Sun Yubo cursed several tis in his head.
“Didn’t you ntion the rest of the beds?” Sun Yubo turned to ask the student.
“Two beds, Teacher Sun,” Xie Wanying briefed her teacher on the last two beds, hoping to defuse so of his anger, “The elderly gentleman in bed 52 didn’t have his tubes removed, and influenced by soone’s advice, he insisted on walking around in the ward at night, claiming it would help him get the tubes out sooner.”
“He’s looking for trouble!” Sun Yubo glared.
“The patients in his ward need to rest and sleep. So, I suggest, Teacher Sun, maybe you could prescribe him so sleeping pills.”
“Prescribe!”
“The last one, bed 62, has a single room. When I went on rounds, his family was there and locked the door, preventing us from entering. The nurse couldn’t get in to check on him either. The nurse reported that the family said with the monitoring equipnt, there was no need for us to enter, fearing that it would disturb their rest. The family wouldn’t listen to the nurse. I think you had better explain to the family. It’s necessary for the nurse to make rounds in the middle of the night. Monitoring equipnt can’t detect all changes in condition, and it’s possible that even if an alarm goes off, the family might not hear it.”
VIP patients’ families acting capriciously in the ward.
A look of utter dejection flashed across Sun Yubo’s face.
“What’s the diagnosis for bed 62? Has he had surgery?”
“The second day of hospitalization, seems to have co in for tests,” Xie Wanying said.
Sun Yubo folded his arms around his waist and took a mont to compose himself. Those who could afford a private room were certainly wealthy, and doctors might not be able to afford offending them. However, with responsibility resting on his shoulders, he had to knock on the door.
He led the student to the room of bed 62 and knocked on the door.
Shortly after, a woman’s voice from inside asked, “Who is it?”
“It’s the doctor.”
The door opened, revealing a woman in her forties who looked at the three dical staff and asked, “What’s the matter?”
“You can’t lock the door at night; dical staff need to check on patients,” Sun Yubo educated the family mber.
Arranging for dical staff to make individual patient rounds at night is very important; otherwise, there’s no need to schedule night shifts and wear the dical staff out.
