The first five levels featured typical steampunk style, with iron structures everywhere and the sll of oil perating the air. When the Colossus Underground City is reconnected, it will likely be filled with the sounds of steam hissing and gears turning, pushing this style to its peak.
Upon reaching the last three levels, a sudden transformation occurred from the iron doors and technological atmosphere to a bizarre display showcasing the true essence of the Dark Domain, with glowing minerals and luminescent mushrooms filling the landscape. The overall environnt was both stuffy and hot, with the air perated by a thin mist ford from moisture.
This environnt is a paradise for mushrooms, their beloved haven. Here grow not just patches of mushrooms, but forests of them. Many of the mushrooms have grown taller than adults. Without claiming to encompass the entire variety of mushrooms within the Dark Domain, there are at least a dozen kinds, all of which are edible.
Among these mushrooms, the most nurous and unique is a fiery red, jellyfish-like semitransparent Fla Mushroom.
Their red coloration does not co from their surface, but from the mass of red material resembling burning fla within them. Their bodies are not particularly large, the largest being only about the size of an adult’s fist.
If they grow larger, they will explode with a loud bang, spraying their accumulated juices everywhere.
This Fla Mushroom, nicknad Exploding Mushroom, is inedible, yet it’s an indispensable presence in these three mushroom mines, crucial for nourishing countless other mushrooms here.
These Exploding Mushrooms are not native to the Material Plane but are foreign plants from the Fire Elental Plane. They serve as food for many elental creatures. Not only do they relish the abundant fire elents and the purest water inside the Exploding Mushrooms, but they also enjoy the sensation of the mushrooms exploding within their stomachs.
The three mines are not arranged vertically, but are instead situated in a parallel manner, located at the junction of regular rock layers and hot dry rock layers.
Under normal circumstances, whether due to the land’s inherent warmth or the heat brought by the hot rock layers, the temperature here would be terrifyingly high, capable of steaming a human alive, not simply stifling.
Currently, however, the temperature is maintained around twenty-five degrees, ideal for most mushroom growth and suitable for most sentient life forms.
The excess heat is absorbed by these Exploding Mushrooms, condensed into the purest fire elents within their bodies. The majority of it is consud through their own growth and luminescent heat, with the remainder being neutralized by combining with water elents from the ground and air.
When they grow to the size of an adult’s fist, this balance becos difficult to maintain, resulting in an explosion.
This is also how they propagate their species; their explosive spray contains countless seeds. If conditions are suitable, the explosion’s spray area will be overtaken by these mushrooms.
The water they shed during the explosion contains abundant nutrients, serving as the most natural fertilizer. Only a small portion is absorbed and reused by their offspring, while most is absorbed by surrounding mushrooms, becoming nourishnt for their growth.
Exploding Mushrooms are undoubtedly nourishnt mushrooms.
This represents a natural biological utilization of the dry hot rock’s geothermal energy.
These are the dwarves’ plantations. The large output of edible mushrooms from these three plantations is sufficient to sustain tens of thousands of dwarves, laying the foundation for the Supre Shanata dwarves to sustain thousands of giants.
Thus, the true expanse of the Supre Shanata Dwarf City unfolded completely before them.
If those dwarves wished, at their peak, they could even form a closed-loop economy, sustaining themselves. Most daily necessities could be obtained through the heat energy provided by the hot rock, and while this energy isn’t endless, with the Colossus’ current consumption, it could be sustained for tens of thousands of years.
