Leilani.

By the ti I got ho later that evening, I was so tired, I could barely walk. My entire body hurt so terribly too and I already had about a million missed calls from Gavin and so strange numbers that I knew had to do with the people from my old pack.

Groaning, I slipped out of my car and headed to my porch, and as usual, the bouquet of roses were there, simply resting against the wall while my ’ghost’ security guard stood by the door, waiting for .

And that was strange.

I cocked my eyebrows at him as I walked closer and asked; "What is it?"

The young man who looked no older than twenty-five imdiately bowed upon seeing . He drawled; "Ma’am, I know that I am not supposed to co to you until it is urgent..."

"Ah, yes," I drawled, montarily fascinated by his fine mismatched eyes, "I know... so tell please, what’s the urgent matter?"

At my words, he turned away to pick up a backpack from the floor, and my eyes widened when he began to pull out different gadgets one after the other from it.

He stopped when he got his laptop and after turning it on and inserting a flash drive into it, he turned to and said slowly; "I was able to catch the face of your stalker today."

For a minute, I froze. My brain seed to not catch his words— probably because I was still very tired and I frowned, asking; "Stalker?"

"Yes, the man who always brings these flowers to you." He drawled, and that... that made my blood rush into my ears.

A sudden chill crept up my spine and sweat, cold sweat, despite the chilly atmosphere, broke out on my skin.

I quickly leaned over to look into the laptop screen, montarily forgetting about my tiredness. My breath hitched when the grainy video began to play and a small gasp slipped past my lips when I watched as a tall bulky guy walked over to my porch and looked around carefully before setting the bouquet onto the floor.

He glanced around again as if to check if I was at ho before setting off; But in the last second, he looked into the cara and I froze. The bag in my hand dropped to the floor too because...

He had purple eyes just like mine!

His hair was a shiny shade of silver just like mine, and sothing about him felt oddly familiar... too distinct, to be a coincidence.

I do not know if it was panic or excitent, but I found myself slapping at my security’s arm repeatedly, my voice shaky as I croaked out; "Can you please take a screenshot of that face?"

"Yes ma’am!"

"Please do!" I rasped again, suddenly out of breath, "...and I want it fast!"

"I’ll do that ma’am." He called out again and I smiled briefly before turning away from him to head into the house.

However, I had just reached my door when I suddenly stopped and turned around, my voice light as I asked; "Do you want to have dinner with ?"

His eyes widened almost imperceptibly, but he didn’t say a word. It was not a ’No.’ or a ’Yes.’ and I imdiately knew that I had accidentally overstepped my boundaries.

I waved him off and smiled. "Sorry that I asked that! Don’t mind ! Take care of yourself!"

And with that, I rushed into the house, set everything in my hands down onto the table, including the flowers, my bag and whatnot, and then I picked up the card that ca with the bouquet of roses.

It read:

From Darius.

"You might be wondering why I haven’t co to you yet; and trust , I want to. The only challenge we have right now is the fact that the things I have to tell you are things you do not want to hear.

They are too great and might be a bit worriso for a girl like you, but we will et soon because the truth is inevitable, and you have every right to know the truth.

Also, I have co to the understanding that you haven’t connected with your beast yet... but not to worry, Princess, it’s there. It’s waiting., and you might just be fortunate enough to get that which you want tonight.

It’s a full moon night."

The content of the letter had too stunned to move or speak for a very long ti, and when I finally ca to, do you know what I did?

I cut off the bottom of the roses’ stems one after the other, and when I was done, I placed them into a jar, added so water and left them in my kitchen.

Henceforth, I will be keeping them.

—I will be caring for them.

At least until this stranger who surprisingly shares so of my distinct features shows up.

It was late at night by the ti I finished preparing dinner and that was mostly because oftentis, I’d just stand rooted in place, my heart hamring against my chest whenever I rembered the note from earlier.

—That and the striking features of its sender.

He looked too much like . And maybe it was because I’ve never really experienced a sense of kinship with anyone before, but I found myself thinking that we could be a pair— not in the couple-like type of pair though— like the siblings kind.

Or a distant relative who wouldn’t hate for looking different.

The thought made extrely giddy, so giddy that after eating dinner, I decided to listen to so soft music, and as the sound of Lana del ray’s ’Say yes to heaven’ filled my quiet house, I closed my eyes... until suddenly a loud high pitched scream perated the air.

I froze, snapping my eyes open to look around . But there was nothing.

The scream ca again and again, and it wasn’t until the third ti before I realized that it wasn’t coming from outside the house but from . And that I was screaming because my body suddenly felt as though it was on fire.

Tears burned at the corners of my eyes as I rushed upstairs to my bathroom, whilst scratching on my skin. When I got there, I soaked myself into a cold bath and closed my eyes; But it wasn’t helping.

Nothing was helping!

If anything, it felt like my body’s temperature was boiling up the water. Like I was about to disintegrate due to the amount of pain I was in.

A loud cry tore from the back of my throat as I soon began to thrash wildly in the tub; and I froze suddenly when the distinct sound of bones breaking filled my ears.

"...It’s waiting., and you might just be fortunate enough to get that which you want tonight..."

The strange words from the note rang in my ears over and over again until I began to hyperventilate, and in this mont of utter agony, I couldn’t help but wonder if I was indeed shifting.

Or why I was shifting in the first place.

And goddess, the pain was too much.

It was so great, it made black lines appear at the farthest ends of my line of sight.

So much that it felt as though I was about to die.

Another loud cry tore out from the back of my now sore throat as I hunched over my bathtub and wailed.

But I wasn’t getting any better. If anything, I was getting worse... so much worse. My body was so hot, it could literally break a thermoter, and my limbs shook so much, it was a wonder how I was still standing.

"Arghhh!" I groaned in anguish, but as soon as those cries left my mouth, a sudden feeling of relief washed through my body.

My vision dimd slightly... but despite how weak I was, and how shaken I was about the whole ordeal, I couldn’t help but notice the mass of white furs on my feet— now paws, and the talon-like claws that had replaced my fingers

And then I fainted.
