Chalice.
It felt like I was drowning, like I was falling deep into an abyss that only I could see. Whenever I closed my eyes to sleep, I would always see Leilani’s face hovering just above mine, laughing hysterically as she pointed her perfectly manicured finger at .
That image haunted so much that I jolted from my sleep, my heavy eyelids slowly peeling open as I stopped to glance around .
And I noticed to my horror that I was in a holding cell.
A whole ; Chalice Blackthorne, the golden child of Beta Malakai Blackthorne and his wife, was in a holding cell ant for criminals.
Tears stung my eyes. Besides being humiliated like this, what hurt the most was the fact that I now wasn’t only the daughter of my parents, but I was this pack’s Luna too, and they had no right to treat this way.
They had no fucking rights!
The damp acrid sll of the cold cented room filled my nostrils, causing to imdiately feel nauseous; And I scrunched up my nose, my stomach churning with both hunger and disgust.
I retched several tis until I started to feel pain, but that.. that didn’t stop the weird sensation spreading in my stomach nor the tears now pouring down my face in torrents.
A sudden movent in the distance caught my attention and I looked up slowly, my head banging as I squinted into the darkness. I winced when a sudden bright light filled the room and my eyes widened slightly when I saw a familiar figure standing quietly to the side, his hands clasped behind his back and his head hung low.
More tears stread down my face and I dropped my head in sha, my voice breaking as I whispered; "Lou?"
"Babe."
"Lou, what are you doing here? Don’t you know that you’re not ant to be here?"
The mont those words left my mouth, Louis looked at like I had suddenly sprouted a second head. His eyes glead with mischief but then he shrugged and muttered;
"I’m guarding your cell."
The fucking irony!
"And do you think that the Alphas will spare you when they find out that—"
"Chill, they wouldn’t find out anything until you tell them." He snapped irritatedly, interrupting . "My elder brother, Jas, is slightly ill and I am only here to help him out with his rounds and guard your cell as he’d been assigned to it by Alpha Kael."
"Oh,"
Awkward silence settled between us. My eyes dropped from his face to watch my feet instead and I shuddered when I felt his fingers lightly graze my exposed shoulders. He murmured;
"See the n you gave up everything to be with, Babe." He said slowly, and then hooking his hands around my neck, he added; "You tried so hard to be with them. You literally dumped , discarding what we shared just for them... now, look at you. You’re miserable."
"Lou please..."
"It’s just a day after your wedding, and while you should be on your honeymoon or soplace far away shaking your ass on a yacht, you’re in a holding cell, rotting away and being punished for sothing so... aningless."
I closed my eyes again as I let sha wash over . And maybe it was desperation, but when his words registered in my mind, filling with more despair than I could’ve ever imagined, I pressed my lips together and cried; "Help , Lou."
I felt him stiffen.
"Help . They wouldn’t let go and I am pregnant... The child in my womb is yours too, and even though I deserve what I’m going through right now, he doesn’t. Please."
Lou’s eyes widened slightly as soon as he heard those words. His hands cupped my face, and using it to push my face upward, he leaned close, his warm breath tickling my face as he whispered; "Don’t play with , little miss Blackthorne."
"I am not," I cried, and with a softer firr voice, I added; "I swear to the goddess, Louis, I am not lying."
A strange emotion flashed across his eyes then. He pulled away, drew himself to his full height and whispered;
"I am sorry."
"Huh? Lou please!"
"Don’t worry," he whispered, "I’ll get you out of here." He said, and with that, he slapped so hard that my body fell limp to the side. Pain rushed through the side of my face so much that if I wasn’t chained to this chair, then the heavens knew that I would’ve fallen to the ground, writhing and crying as the pain spread out.
He pulled away again and slapped one more ti; and I vaguely felt him rubbing the spot where he’d hit before I passed out.
The jerk!
And goddess, I hated him so much, it felt like my heart was about to explode due to the amount of hatred coursing through my veins.
—
When I woke up a couple of hours later, I found myself in a hospital room, laying on a hospital bed, and with a gauze wrapped around my face and left ankle.
By the door, a different bodyguard now stood, and when I looked more closely at who it was, I realized that it was Jas, Lou’s brother. I frowned.
What the hell is he doing here?
In fact, what the hell happened to ?
I slowly sat up on the bed and my breath hitched when I found Caelum sitting not so far away from with his legs crossed and his eyes watching so closely, I nearly wanted to disappear.
His eyes roved my body slowly, very slowly, and when they landed on my face, I saw him twitch. He said; "You were found unconscious in your holding cell earlier today with bruises all over your face. Do you mind telling what happened?"
I froze. I didn’t just faint... I fainted when—
Oh my God, was this Lou’s plan all along?
Was this his way of getting out of my cell? His way of saving when I asked?
Even though the process had seed barbaric, it was also successful. I flinched when Caelum began to talk again. He said; "The doctors say that you may be stressed. They say you suffered a blunt blow to your head, maybe from falling, and so, for that reason, you’ll be let out of the cell, but you’ll be made a prisoner in the house."
My heart fell instantly, and whatever smile was already beginning to grace my face, froze. I stuttered; "B-but I-I..."
"House arrest is the lightest kind of punishnt we could think of, Chalice, and you don’t deserve it, so don’t fucking complain!"
Tears sprung into my eyes and I lowered my head, my breath hitching when the realization of my new situation dawned on .
He seethed, "also... for as long as you’re on house arrest, you will not be receiving any visitors. Even though you’re pregnant with my child, Chalice, you’ll only eat once in every day, you’ll be made to reflect on your actions... and after you’ve given birth, and I’ve gotten full custody of my child, you’ll be made to go to jail.."
"Caelum...!"
"Because you’re a murderer."
"Cae—"
"And Chalice..." he snapped, suddenly interrupting . I looked up at him expectantly, half expecting him to take back his words, but to my horror, he muttered; "...if I ever find out that the pup in your womb isn’t mine, I’ll kill you. I promise."
The seriousness in his eyes made freeze for a second. God, he wasn’t bluffing. This was real.
My life had beco a nightmare.
"You know I’ll feel it as soon as the child is born right? So think carefully because before I kill you, I’ll make sure that you have to endure every fucking thing that Leilani’s ever endured. You’ll be whipped, shad, starved and will even have your blood drawn. You understand ?!"
My heart raced and I shook slightly "Y-yes!" I rushed out.
And as I watched him leave, a strange sense of chill spread throughout my body and I couldn’t help but fear for my future with him.
With them.
At the sa ti though, I was thankful to Lou for bringing out of that terrible holding cell, and I didn’t care that I was still a captive...
—As long as this cell didn’t sll half as bad as my previous cell.
