A puzzled light flickered in Jasmine Yale’s eyes, slowly condensing inside her gaze.
Uncle Fand, seemingly noticing her confusion, spoke while walking, “It’s nothing, just that Mr. Cheney sotis gets drunk and calls out your na. So, I was a bit surprised and familiar with your na when I heard it today.”

“Does he often get drunk?”
“No, he only drinks a bit more on rainy days or when he’s in a bad mood.”
He too, has his bad days.
Jasmine smiled.
“Miss Yale, Mr. Cheney was very good to the young master. A man is naturally busy, but he personally took care of his son, worrying about everything. It’s not easy to raise a child, especially for a man.”
Jasmine had experienced Sylvan Cheney’s affection for Chale Cheney.
They reached a wall and Uncle Fand stopped, turning around.
“This road is blocked, let’s go this way.”
Jasmine curiously asked, “This place has a nice view, why is it enclosed by a wall?”
“Indeed, the scenery is beautiful, but Miss Yale might not know, soone once broke in here, Mr. Cheney’s enemy. It was at night, under a dark sky with howling winds, quite frightening. The young master was only one year old at that ti. Those two intruders were found by Mr. Cheney, who shot them dead ‘bang bang’ with a few shots. It was a bloody scene. Since then, this place has been closed off.”
Jasmine was startled, “That’s terrifying? Does he have a lot of enemies?”
“I’m not sure about that, but since that incident, nothing else has happened. The young master grew safely until he was three, no different from any other child. Did I scare you, Miss Yale? Mr. Cheney isn’t that ruthless, he… is a very good person.”
Uncle Fand, not wanting to leave a bad impression on Jasmine, hurriedly explained.
He didn’t know the nature of Miss Yale’s relationship with Mr. Cheney, but it must be deep.

Jasmine, however, laughed, “I know what kind of person he is, I understand him.”

“This place is quite large.”
“Yes, the mansion is very large,” Uncle Fand said, “but Mr. Cheney rarely brings guests here. This place was a birth gift to the young master from Mr. Cheney.”
“Have you never seen the young master’s mother?”
“Ah? This… I really haven’t.” Uncle Fand almost thought Jasmine Yale was Chale’s mother.
As they walked, Jasmine inquired, “Are there no photographs of his mother in the mansion?”
“Actually, there aren’t any. There are only photographs of the young master in the mansion, Mr. Cheney seldom takes photos. During those three years, no ladies ca here except The Fern Sisters. Miss Yale, do you know Yolanda Fern and Miss Lana Fern? It’s been a long ti since they last visited.”
Jasmine shook her head, “I don’t know them.”
Uncle Fand wasn’t a nosy person, so he continued showing Jasmine around.
Jasmine felt very calm as she walked around.
Because of the Chinese New Year, the courtyard was filled with red lanterns, glowing brightly, quite a beautiful sight.
Surely it would be even more beautiful at night.
“Miss Yale, I’ve already given instructions, let’s have dinner here tonight.”
“Okay, I think Chale would like to stay too.”
She confird a reluctant look in Chale Cheney’s eyes.
This place was the little guy’s first ho, he must like it and find it hard to leave.
“The young master has grown up, he really resembles Mr. Cheney,” Uncle Fand remarked sentintally.
