Chapter 1536: Chapter 1536: Give a Child
It was like hearing a funny word. Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at Yacob Harry lying in the hospital bed.
The movent was entirely nonchalant.
“Joan, I’ve always been kind to won. You know that. You slapped twice, and I didn’t retaliate.” Jesse Rowan’s voice dropped to a low murmur, his warm breath curling around her ear. “But that doesn’t an my patience is limitless. Do you understand?”
“Why… You have so many won. Why do you care about at all?”
“Because sleeping with you feels good. Does that answer satisfy you? Or maybe it’s because I’m not bored yet. You can choose whichever answer you like better.”
“I understand.” Joan lowered her long lashes, her eyes reflecting an unfathomable indifference, completely devoid of emotion.
“I like smart won.” Jesse Rowan stroked her chin with one hand, the other wrapped around her waist. “Joan, there’s a car race tomorrow. Co with .”
After speaking, Jesse Rowan released her without further trouble, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
He strode out of the ward without lingering.
Joan leaned against the wall, her legs trembling.
Her eyes carried a weary exhaustion, and her chest felt numb, as though entirely devoid of sensation, drained to paleness.
It was a long while before she slowly lowered her hand and picked up the fruit knife on the coffee table again.
The blade glead cold and bright.
She had never considered herself a cowardly girl. In school, she had always strived to be the best, and during her studies abroad, she worked hard and earned scholarships.
She had always given her all, never weak, never retreated.
But this ti, she hesitated.
No one had ever cornered her the way Jesse Rowan did, forcing her onto what felt like a dead-end road.
Yet, he wore that ever-deceptive smile, one that left no chinks in his armor.
Lowering her head, she looked at the fruit knife in her hand, gripping the handle and picking up the half-peeled apple beside it.
Apple peel fell away layer by layer.
Her eyes were void of brightness, her detached gaze lingering on the white blade.
Several tis, distracted, she nearly cut her fingers.
It felt like her heart had sunk, plunging to the bottom of a sea, leaving no ripples behind.
…
Saturday arrived as promised.
Koi Garden.
Early in the day, Jesse Rowan was already dressed, sporting an athletic outfit and brimming with vitality.
Joan was just getting up from bed, standing in front of the full-length mirror as she combed her hair.
Her black hair cascaded like a waterfall, though her eyes lacked much brilliance.
Jesse Rowan had kept her up all night again. He, on the other hand, looked refreshed, while she was utterly drained.
“You forgot to wear a condom last night,” she said flatly, her face expressionless.
The hand holding Jesse Rowan’s lighter paused briefly before he chuckled lightly. “You have a good mory. Just once—I got carried away.”
“Then, when we pass a pharmacy later, I’ll go in and buy so pills.”
“Joan, taking pills is bad for your health.” Jesse Rowan leaned casually against the wall, his legs gracefully crossed, his posture elegant yet with an inscrutable edge to his expression.
“If you knew it was bad, you wouldn’t have forgotten protection.”
“Everyone makes mistakes sotis.”
“Do you also make mistakes with your other won? If so, congratulations. In a few years, you might have a whole crowd of kids calling you ‘Daddy.'” Joan responded without a trace of politeness.
Jesse Rowan chuckled softly. “That won’t happen. You’re different from them. Joan, why don’t you give a child?”
A loud “crack” interrupted them as the bottle of skincare product Joan was holding slipped from her hand.
It shattered on the ground.
