The second half of the eting was extraordinarily long. After finishing her tasks, Jasmine Yale poured herself a glass of pure water.

Her knee was scraped, and she climbed out of the pond dejectedly, her face dirty, bandaging her wound while pleading with Tor not to tell him.
But Tor was eager to scold her, and as soon as he ca back, Tor told him about it.
The outco was predictable: he scolded her severely, though finally, he personally bandaged her wound with alcohol and iodine.
That sumr, and in all the sumrs after, she never went back into the water or caught fish again.
Dreaming, Jasmine Yale laughed, smacking her lips, grinning goofily.
“Thud”—
A book landed on her leg!
Jasmine Yale awoke with a start, rubbing her eyes, only to find herself asleep in the outer office of Sylvan Cheney.
The blazing sun had already sunk west, almost at sunset, with the window’s evening glow brilliant and exceptionally bright.
A magazine had landed squarely on her leg.
Jasmine Yale pouted and looked up.
Her eyes, brimming with tears, t a pair filled with anger.
When did he arrive…
Small-minded, she was pregnant, yet he threw a magazine at her.
“Awake?” Sylvan Cheney’s voice was steady and calm, his gaze dark.
Jasmine Yale’s legs were sore and swollen, and she didn’t stand up, nodding: “CEO Cheney…”
“This is my office, not a place to sleep. If you’re sleep-deprived, go ho and rest! Oh, from tomorrow, you can go ho and sleep as much as you want.” Sylvan Cheney turned his head and headed inside.
Jasmine Yale hurriedly hugged her notebook and caught up.
“CEO Cheney, CEO Cheney, I have sothing to tell you!”
She couldn’t run fast, carrying her notebook, almost tripping.
Jasmine Yale had to prop herself against the door, stopping it from closing.
Sylvan Cheney paused his steps, his back to her, radiating a powerful yet detached presence, with an air of distant alienation.
Jasmine Yale’s yearning gaze fell upon his back, and she found herself very close, very close.
