Chapter 1299: 1298 From Love to Hatred

Bai Yiyi slept at ho, and after lunch, Qing Feng drove her to the prison.

Since it was arranged, Bai Yiyi t Li En very smoothly in the visiting room.

In the few months since they had last t, Li En seed even more haggard and aged, his stubble having grown about a centiter without being shaved off.

His clothes seed too large, or perhaps he had lost weight. They hung loosely on his body. His eyes were cloudy. When he saw Bai Yiyi, there was no particular reaction, no joy apparent on his face.

“Elder Brother Li.”

Bai Yiyi picked up the phone on the table and brought it to her ear, calling out gently.

The originally indifferent expression of Li En cracked slightly at the soft, gentle call of ‘Elder Brother Li,’ showing a faint change of emotion.

“Yiyi, if there’s anything you want to say, just say it.” It was only a faint change, which then quickly reverted to his usual indifference.

Bai Yiyi put on a gentle smile, “Can’t I co see you if there’s nothing wrong? At the beginning of the month when my mom went traveling, she told not to forget to visit you.”

“Your mother went traveling?”

The way Li En regarded Bai Yuqin was actually a bit better than his attitude towards Bai Yiyi, which was hardly surprising. He had put a lot of effort into finally taking Bai Yiyi out of the country, wanting to care for her for a lifeti, but in return, he ended up losing his freedom forever.

What hurt him the most was that she said she would never forgive him.

Bai Yiyi nodded and explained softly, “Yes, she has an old classmate who is going abroad after the New Year, insisting on taking her along for a trip. I think my mother never really got to travel, so I encouraged her to go.”

“Then, who takes care of Tongtong? Aren’t you working?” Li En’s face showed a hint of surprise and confusion.

“I am working. I couldn’t just stop my mother from traveling because of Tongtong, so I found a nanny. She takes care of Tongtong every day.”

When Bai Yiyi ntioned Tongtong, her eyes unwittingly tinged with a smile, and her voice softened as well.

Through the glass, Li En was montarily stunned by her gentle smile, and for a brief mont, he simply stared at her in a daze.

“You’ve lost weight.”

After a mont, Li En spoke.

He sized up Bai Yiyi, “Is your job very tiring?”

Though he seed indifferent on the surface, deep down he still cared.

Bai Yiyi lowered her eyes subtly and said in a muted tone, “It’s not usually too hard, but these past couple of days, sothing happened, and I haven’t rested well.”

“Is it Tongtong who is sick?”

Li En asked, puzzled.

He seed unaware of what had been happening on the outside.

Bai Yiyi shook her head, her voice steady, “It’s not that Tongtong is sick; it’s the pharmaceutical factory that had an issue. A few days ago, during surgery, there were complications with three patients. They all used our drugs, and the hospital said that there was a problem with our products.”

“The hospital, Kangning Hospital?”

At last, there was a significant change on Li En’s face, his lips curling into a sneer, unashadly revealing his schadenfreude.

Bai Yiyi frowned slightly and replied, “It’s not Kangning Hospital, it’s another hospital.”

“Yiyi.”

Li En pursed his lips, calling her softly.

Bai Yiyi was slightly stunned and did not speak.

“Do you know that I really wish I had never t you?” Li En’s earlier sarcasm turned into self-mockery and regret.

Bai Yiyi quietly pressed her lips together and did not respond; she knew Li En didn’t need her to say anything.

Li En’s voice continued in her ears: “If I had never known you, I wouldn’t have ended up with a life devoid of freedom. Your heart is the hardest of all won’s. How could the gentle Shifu’s wife have given birth to a daughter as unfeeling as you?”

As if she accepted his accusation, Bai Yiyi’s face remained calm.

“I knew it, you wouldn’t co to see without a reason, Bai Yiyi. Aren’t you afraid of feelings, of marriage, of n? Then why aren’t you afraid of your teacher’s enemies?”

“Elder Brother Li, my dad has no enemies. He has let go; why can’t you?”

Bai Yiyi’s face turned slightly pale as she looked at Li En seriously.

“Alright, do you know why he let go? It’s because he knew his life was coming to an end. He didn’t want to die without you acknowledging him.”

Li En, like a paragon of justice, accused Bai Yiyi of all sorts of unfilial, unkind, and unjust behaviors.

“Elder Brother Li, even if that person can’t let go for a lifeti, these grudges have nothing to do with you. You don’t need to make excuses for your own actions, nor do you need to act under that person’s banner and do things that are outrageous.”

“What outrageous things have I done? Yes, I admit, I did want to use Wen Ran’s daughter as an experint subject, but what I was researching was the uncompleted study of our teacher. And, I was only thinking about it—I did not harm the baby girl.”

“I’m not referring to that incident.”

Bai Yiyi said sternly, fixedly watching Li En’s face for any subtle expressions as she spoke.

Li En sneered, “Not that incident. I know; in your eyes, I’m the damned villain who deserves to go to the eighteenth level of Hell.”

Bai Yiyi’s grip on the phone tightened. Li En’s rage did not betray a hint of guilt.

But still, everyone believed it was related to Li En, and that included herself.

When Wen Jin suggested she visit Li En, she had already suspected sothing. She had no grounds, just a hunch, but she never expressed it.

Firstly, she did not want this matter to be related to Li En.

“Last ti, when Momo had an accident, you said it had nothing to do with you and lashed out at ,” Bai Yiyi continued, ignoring Li En’s anger and ridicule: “Elder Brother Li, it’s not that I suspect you, but this matter is too strange. Several patients used our products at the sa ti during their surgeries and encountered problems. One patient has already died…”

“So, you hope it’s this ti, and you hope I pay with my life. Bai Yiyi, if anything happens next ti, are you going to suspect my ghost?”

Li En’s denial irritated Bai Yiyi; she clenched her lips tightly and said coldly, “If this has nothing to do with you, I will co to apologize personally. But if it really is your doing, I hope you will stop now and not harm innocent people.”

“Hahaha.”

Upon hearing Bai Yiyi’s words, Li En suddenly burst into crazed laughter.

The laughter pierced through the phone and into Bai Yiyi’s ears, causing her to change her expression involuntarily.

After finishing his laughter, Li En’s expression abruptly turned savage, glaring fiercely at her, “Yiyi, if I still had that kind of power right now, I wouldn’t go after Wen’s Pharmaceutical Factory. I’d have people kidnap you so that Mr. Gu would never see you again.”
