Chapter 872: 871 Even life can be disregarded
Gu Kai’s mouth twitched, “Use yourself as compensation?”
Mo Xiuchen ignored him, simply looking tenderly at the woman beside him.
Wen Ran was startled for a mont, and when she t Mo Xiuchen’s suggestive gaze, her face ward slightly, and she averted her eyes with a flicker, saying to Shen Yuting beside her, “Sister Ting, please don’t be polite, eat more.”
Shen Yuting appeared sowhat distracted, not catching what Wen Ran had said. A trace of bewildernt flashed across her face, and she covered it up with a smile, “Mhm.”
By the ti the al was over, all the food was gone.
Gu Kai was truly hungry, having eaten three bowls of rice. Although the bowls weren’t large, it was still quite a lot, especially since he had eaten Mo Xiuchen’s share without a hint of remorse.
Mo Xiuchen had only had a bowl of soup and a little bit of vegetables. For the rest of the ti, he was busy serving Wen Ran, displaying a tenderness and thoughtfulness that made Shen Yuting envious.
After dinner, they moved from the dining room to the living room, and Wen Ran washed so fruit for Shen Yuting and Gu Kai to eat.
They were all brought back from the countryside, “Bro, Sister Ting, take so more ho with you when you leave later.”
“Ranran, let’s discuss sothing.”
Gu Kai said to Wen Ran with a smile, as he ate a strawberry.
“What is it?” Before Wen Ran could speak, Mo Xiuchen, sitting beside her, narrowed his eyes at Gu Kai and pulled Wen Ran to sit in his embrace, uncaring of the two ‘light bulbs’ nearby. His arms circled around Wen Ran’s waist, causing her face to blush, but she couldn’t struggle free.
Gu Kai frowned slightly. The more Mo Xiuchen wanted to know, the more he didn’t want to tell him, “Ranran, this is a secret, we should talk alone.”
He stood up and left the sofa.
When Wen Ran saw Gu Kai walking away from the sofa, thinking it was sothing important, she whispered hurriedly to Mo Xiuchen, “Let go first.”
Mo Xiuchen didn’t want to let go, but fearing he might go too far and upset Ranran, he reluctantly released her. He cast an annoyed glance at Gu Kai, a few steps away, sure that the guy was doing it on purpose. What could he possibly have to say that couldn’t be said in front of them?
“Ranran, let’s talk upstairs.”
Gu Kai seed to sense the gaze behind him, turning back to give Mo Xiuchen a triumphant smile as he pulled Wen Ran upstairs.
“Bro, what is it?”
Wen Ran asked softly. Gu Kai chuckled and mysteriously said, “I’ll tell you when we’re upstairs.”
His tone suggested he really did have so important secret that couldn’t be heard by Mo Xiuchen and Shen Yuting.
Mo Xiuchen stared as their silhouettes disappeared on the second floor, his handso brows furrowed slightly. Just as he thought about getting up, Shen Yuting on the sofa beside him suddenly spoke up, “Mo Xiuchen.”
Mo Xiuchen turned his head, his gaze cool as he looked towards her.
Shen Yuting pursed her lips, speaking softly, “Mo Xiuchen, don’t take the words I said that night to heart.”
“Which words?”
Mo Xiuchen asked nonchalantly, leaning back into the sofa with a touch of languidness creeping over his handso features.
Shen Yuting was taken aback, seemingly not expecting such an attitude from Mo Xiuchen. Didn’t he care at all about the matter between Wen Ran and Qin Mu?
“Mo Xiuchen, I just didn’t want Ranran to be upset, but seeing how well you two got along tonight, it seems that Ranran no longer cares about the oath she made and is willing to be with you.”
A faint smile appeared on Shen Yuting’s face.
But deep down, she felt an indescribable sadness and sorrow. When she had been collecting Cheng Jia’s newspapers, she had her own selfish reasons. Because Wen Ran had made a poisonous oath, Shen Yuting believed that Wen Ran would truly never be with Mo Xiuchen.
When Ranran was ntioned, Mo Xiuchen’s lips curved into a smile, and he turned his head to look at Shen Yuting, “Ranran and I are husband and wife to begin with, if she’s not with , who else would she be with? As for those vows, they were never supposed to count.”
“Right, we all think those vows shouldn’t count. It’s just that Ranran cares too much and was afraid that if she returned to your side, the vow would really co true. However, you and Ranran have been through so much, you’re ant to be together. All this is the fault of that bad woman, Cheng Jia. Fortunately, you lost your mory and didn’t end up liking Cheng Jia.”
“Speaking of Cheng Jia, I want to thank you for last ti.”
Mo Xiuchen’s lips held a faint curvature, hardly a smile, yet under the crystal light, his handso features were strikingly chiseled and unspeakably charming.
Shen Yuting’s heart skipped a beat when she heard herself. She clenched her hands unconsciously and said with a smile, “I just didn’t want you to be deceived by Cheng Jia. Actually, even if you hadn’t seen the newspaper, you would have found out Cheng Jia’s true nature sooner or later.”
Mo Xiuchen did not respond; Shen Yuting was right. Even if he hadn’t seen the newspapers, he would have had soone investigate Cheng Jia eventually.
It didn’t affect anything.
During his ti in D Country for over two months, he had never been chard by Cheng Jia, only growing more and more disgusted with her. How could he possibly have anything to do with her after returning ho?
The other night when Shen Yuting brought it up, he didn’t say thanks. He suddenly thanked her today because he didn’t want her to bring it up again in the future.
“Mo Xiuchen, you helped that day too. If you hadn’t caught , I might have been hurt. Really, the person who should be saying thanks is .”
Seeing him silent, Shen Yuting paused for a mont before softly adding,
“I’ve already forgotten about that incident.”
For Mo Xiuchen, anything that didn’t concern Wen Ran was never taken to heart.
But for Shen Yuting, it was a spark that reignited a heart turned to ash, causing her sleepless nights for a while. Just a few days ago, she had even had the surveillance from that ti pulled for her to watch, and had the mont she fell into his arms captured.
“Whether it was by chance or not, you saved at the ti, and I will always rember that.”
Shen Yuting smiled tenderly, her face filled with gratitude as she looked at Mo Xiuchen.
Suddenly, Mo Xiuchen changed the subject, “You said the other night that back then, everyone wanted Ah Mu to be with Ranran?”
Shen Yuting’s expression subtly changed, and she hesitated before saying, “At that ti, you were not yet recovered, and Ranran was pressured by Cheng Jia to vow not to intrude on your life. We thought you might fall for Cheng Jia’s trap and end up with her.”
She paused, carefully observing Mo Xiuchen’s expression. Seeing no emotion, she continued, “Ah Mu would give up his life for Ranran, and Ranran was also good to Ah Mu. However, you ca back later.”
“When did Ah Mu start liking Ranran?”
Mo Xiuchen asked lightly.
Shen Yuting thought for a mont and answered, though not with much certainty, “I’m not sure exactly when, but Ah Mu has liked Ranran for a long ti. These past few months, he’s been the one keeping Ranran company. It was after seeing how close Ranran and Ah Mu were that we hoped they would be together.”
The implication was that if Mo Xiuchen hadn’t co back, Wen Ran would definitely have ended up with Qin Mu.
Even possibly forgetting him and falling for Qin Mu. These words, while seemingly honest, were sowhat incendiary.
