Nia Mitchell’s face darkened. She had no desire to attend any ghoulish banquet; it was sure to be incredibly hypocritical.
Everyone would have the sa kind of smile, making small talk and competing with each other. She didn’t even have to think about it to know that such a banquet would surely be like that.
"Did you send an invitation to CEO Peary as well?"
Nia Mitchell suddenly thought of the man in the CEO Office. If he was also going, then wouldn’t the two of them...
Phoebe Walker looked at Nia Mitchell incredulously. What was she daydreaming about?
"Nia Mitchell, you’re a married woman, yet you’re still thinking of climbing up to CEO Peary. Your husband is truly pitiful."
Phoebe Walker felt that Nia Mitchell was delusional. So many heiresses in Capital Town wanted to marry Maxwell Peary, and she was just a married commoner...
Ha! If CEO Peary chose her, he must be crazy.
Nia Mitchell’s words that day had made everyone in the Office Room misunderstand. If they hadn’t heard Nia Mitchell ask whether Maxwell Peary would be at the birthday party, they would never have believed this ambitious twenty-year-old married young woman harbored such ambition.
"It was just a casual question," Nia Mitchell explained nonchalantly, saying nothing more.
She glanced at the golden invitation on the table and suppressed her anger. It was just one al, wasn’t it?
"Okay, Saturday, right? I’ll be there."
Phoebe Walker raised an eyebrow. Very good, she thought. Then she would let Nia Mitchell know what it felt like for a pheasant to enter a phoenix’s nest.
"Alright, see you there then. Oh, by the way, CEO Peary doesn’t attend any banquets, so you can just give up on that idea."
After saying this, Phoebe Walker, believing she had won, turned and left triumphantly.
「In an instant, it was lunchti.」
Colleagues left the Office Room one after another for lunch.
In the entire Office Room, only Nia Mitchell and Diana Hill remained.
Diana Hill packed her things and stood up. Seeing Nia Mitchell still unmoved, she asked curiously, "Nia, aren’t you going for lunch?"
"Ah? ... I have a lot of work. I’ll go after I get a bit more done."
Diana Hill looked helplessly at the large pile of files in front of Nia Mitchell.
"Actually, I’d really like to help you with so of it, but I have so much work myself every day. The slightest distraction, and I’ll have to work overti."
Her expression was sincere; she genuinely couldn’t help.
Nia Mitchell understood. After all, they were around the sa age, and in this entire Office Room, only she and Diana Hill were the oddballs.
At least, that’s what she believed for now.
"It’s okay, I can manage. You go on and get so lunch."
Diana Hill nodded and left, feeling quite apologetic.
Once everyone else had left, Nia Mitchell quickly shut down her computer, picked up her small teacup, and hurried towards Maxwell Peary’s Office Room.
"Uncle Peary?"
Gently pushing open the Office Room door, she blinked, looking at Maxwell Peary who sat there with a serious expression.
Hearing her voice, Maxwell Peary looked up. His guarded expression softened when he saw Nia Mitchell.
"Does your tongue still hurt?"
All morning, whenever Maxwell Peary paused in his work, he would start to worry.
That reckless Rabina Mitchell, the coffee had been so hot. Had she burned herself badly?
If sothing was wrong, would she call him first thing?
Such absurd and, frankly, laughable questions had plagued him all morning.
He thought he must have been infected by this Rabina Mitchell; he was becoming as mad as a hatter.
"It still hurts a tiny bit, but I forget about it when I’m busy."
She smiled but didn’t go to Maxwell Peary’s side. Instead, she sat right down on the sofa, her eyes fixed on the food container on the coffee table.
