Evelyn Peary’s expression changed, and an involuntary shiver ran down her spine. Alright, she admitted she didn’t have the courage.
"I have a lunch eting with a friend later, so I might not be able to join you."
As Nia Mitchell paid the bill, she spoke with Evelyn Peary.
Evelyn Peary’s face fell in disappointnt. "Then I’ll head back to the shop at lunchti. It’s busy over there anyway."
She usually stayed at the shop during altis; they really couldn’t manage without her there.
"Mm."
Nia Mitchell smiled, took the black card from the cashier, and then left with Evelyn Peary.
She didn’t spare Belinda Swan or Phoebe Harris a single glance.
Belinda Swan stood rooted to the spot, wiping tears from her face and tightly clutching the briefcase in her hand.
"Check, please."
She glanced at the cashier, who had been watching the whole drama unfold, then turned and walked towards the checkout counter.
This bag... she would personally deliver it to Maxwell Peary.
Nia Mitchell had only taken a few steps when her phone rang again.
The CEO? Is Uncle Peary that bored? Why is he calling again?
"Hello?"
She answered timidly. What tone will he use? Is he still angry?
"Where are you?"
Just three simple words. Okay, I can’t discern his mood at all from that.
"Out on the street. Where else would I be?"
Maxwell Peary was sitting in his chair, leaning back comfortably.
"What did you buy?"
A smile played at the corners of his eyes. He had already received a text ssage informing him that Nia Mitchell had spent over two million at a Pastry Shop.
But he still wanted to hear her voice. He wanted her to tell him herself what she had bought.
"I bought a handbag."
Maxwell Peary nodded. This feeling was so novel.
The feeling of him earning money while a woman was out spending it was different from when Evelyn Peary spent his money.
"I wish I could see your new handbag now."
Maxwell Peary’s deep voice seed to echo right beside her ear, sending ripples through her heart.
Nia Mitchell’s earlobes flushed red, and a suspicious blush crept onto her cheeks.
"You’ll see it tonight anyway."
She replied in a soft, sweet voice, her cheeks burning.
"If you just called to say these boring things, then I’m hanging up."
Maxwell Peary was montarily speechless. She has a lot of nerve, threatening to hang up on again!
"You dare hang up and see what happens."
Maxwell Peary didn’t mind threatening her. Sure enough, Nia Mitchell stopped her hand from hanging up the phone.
She had almost hung up again. Phew, that was close.
"Then... what is it you really want to say?"
Nia Mitchell bit her lip and stopped walking, feeling at a loss.
Evelyn Peary, standing to one side, sighed silently. Heavens, is she really on the phone with Maxwell Peary? Bro, since when did you pick up the hobby of checking up on people? Surely you’re not worried I’ll lead your wife astray? I suddenly feel so sorry for my little sister-in-law. Ugh, being managed so tightly by my older brother, she must have very little freedom.
"What ti are you coming back tonight?"
Maxwell Peary idly twirled a pen in his left hand, looking for all the world like a pining, neglected wife.
"I don’t know. It depends on when Fiona Sutton lets go. Anyway, I’ll try to be back as early as possible."
Nia Mitchell answered, flustered. Turning to see Evelyn Peary smirking mischievously nearby made her even more discomposed. She just wanted to end this call as quickly as possible.
"No. You must give an exact ti."
Maxwell Peary spoke domineeringly, his tone allowing no refusal.
"Six o’clock."
Nia Mitchell, feeling she had no other choice and wanting to end the call quickly, could only give him an answer.
"No, that’s too late."
