The words Nia Mitchell blurted out made Maxwell Peary pause mid-al. His expression flickered through several changes before settling into a faint smile.
"Hmm? So you just want to hide at ho?"
His voice was low and husky. Even over the phone, she could sense his good mood.
"How can you say it’s hiding?"
Nia Mitchell bit her lip, her tone coquettish.
Maxwell Peary continued eating his lunch, listening to her voice and picturing her adorable expression.
"So if I were to show up at the banquet, would you be very unhappy?"
Maxwell Peary suddenly asked. Hearing his words, Nia Mitchell stopped in her tracks.
"Will you really go to the banquet?"
Why did she feel like he was testing her with that comnt?
Was it just her imagination?
"Answer my question first. Would you be unhappy if I showed up at the banquet?"
Maxwell Peary repeated his question; he wouldn’t let it go until she answered him today.
Nia Mitchell fell silent for a mont, thinking for a long ti. The likelihood of Maxwell Peary appearing at the banquet was minuscule.
He never attended these sorts of chaotic banquets. Besides, he was so busy; how could he possibly find the ti?
He had even pulled an all-nighter just last night.
Thinking this, Nia Mitchell continued walking.
"No, of course not. They invited and my husband in the first place. It’s just that I don’t want others to know about our relationship, so I can’t go with you. But if you don’t reveal our connection, you can still go."
As the CEO, he could attend the banquet, and no one could stop him.
Besides, Phoebe Walker had also invited him.
Hearing this, Maxwell Peary raised an eyebrow. This wasn’t sothing Bunny would say.
"Really? You’d better not be saying sothing you don’t an."
Nia Mitchell pouted. She wasn’t saying anything she didn’t an! Hmph!
"Of course, it’s true! Truer than pearls."
She repeated impatiently. When she looked up, she saw Fiona Sutton and llisa Moreland calling to her from up ahead.
"I can’t talk anymore. I’m going to work on my thesis with Fiona. Gotta hang up now!"
Nia Mitchell hurriedly tried to hang up. If Fiona found out she was married to another man, it would be the end of the world.
She didn’t even dare to imagine it. What if...
"Then kiss ."
How could Maxwell Peary, on the other end of the line, let her off so easily? They had only been talking for a few minutes, and she was already in a hurry to hang up.
Nia Mitchell felt helpless but was also afraid that Maxwell Peary would still be brooding over this when she got back.
"MWAH! There, okay?"
"Mm, good girl. I’ll reward you with sothing delicious when you get back."
Nia Mitchell mumbled a quick agreent and then hung up.
By the ti she ran over to llisa Moreland and Fiona Sutton, she was already slightly out of breath.
"Well, well, look at you, chatting away on the phone!" Fiona Sutton teased. "Don’t tell you were talking to that ’bodyguard with a knife’?"
She knew Nia Mitchell well. Seeing how casually Nia Mitchell was chatting just now, it was clear she was talking to soone she was very familiar with.
Apart from Charles Northwood, she couldn’t think of anyone else.
But if it were Charles Northwood, knowing that Nia Mitchell didn’t have the Engagent Certificate, would he be talking to her so calmly on the phone?
"It’s not Charles Northwood! It’s a friend I know. I’ll introduce you guys so other day."
Nia Mitchell feigned calmness as she explained, but she was sowhat afraid Fiona Sutton would say sothing like, "Why wait? How about now?"
"Oh? This is rare! Our Nia Mitchell has actually made a new friend. Looks like there’s so juicy gossip here!"
Fiona Sutton mischievously reached out and pinched Nia Mitchell’s cheek. She had seen it clearly just monts ago—Nia’s face was bright red.
