Ethan Martinez squatted down, picked up Gerry Peary, and took him to sit on the sofa. "Did Gerry behave today?"
As he finished speaking, a streak of lightning split the sky again, causing Gerry to reflexively shrink back. Shirley Grant hurried over to try and cover his ears, but it was already too late. Ethan Martinez, quick as lightning, rembered the scene he had just walked in on and imdiately reached out to cover Gerry’s ears. Only after the thunder roared did Gerry open his eyes.
"I...I’m not afraid of thunder," Gerry said weakly, his face pale as a sheet.
"Alright, no need to be scared. Gerry is the bravest," Shirley Grant said, rushing to his side and stroking his hair. However, she noticed Gerry’s face was deathly pale, he was sweating profusely, and seed to be having difficulty breathing. At the sight of this, Shirley Grant imdiately panicked, her body trembling. "Gerry?"
Ethan Martinez also noticed sothing was wrong with Gerry and imdiately carried him out. "We’re taking Gerry to the hospital, let’s go."
Despite the torrential rain, Ethan Martinez carried Gerry into the car. Shirley Grant quickly followed. VROOM! The flashy sports car, like an arrow released from a bowstring, disappeared into the curtain of rain. Luckily, although the villa was a bit secluded, there was a good hospital nearby. Ethan Martinez happened to know a friend there and had called them while on the road.
Five minutes later, with a SCREECH, the sports car perford a perfect drift, braking to a halt right at the hospital entrance. The doctor had been waiting at the entrance. As soon as the car stopped, he braved the rain to quickly lift the child onto a stretcher and rushed him to the Resuscitation Room.
Shirley Grant was still in her casual clothes, her hair casually tied up as if ready for bed, her face pale. Seeing her in this state, desolate and helpless, was heartbreaking.
"I’ll go and complete the procedures. Will you wait here?" Ethan Martinez looked at Shirley Grant, noticing that she seed not to hear anything he said. "Shirley Grant, you have to pull yourself together!" He shook her arm urgently, trying to pull her out of her daze. "Gerry is waiting for you."
He tried to cheer her up. Shirley Grant, trembling, looked at the light of the Resuscitation Room and nodded. "Gerry will be fine. We’ve made it through so many years; we’ll make it through this too... we will..." Tears stread down Shirley Grant’s face. She covered her mouth with both hands, trying hard to suppress her sobs. I have to pull myself together. I have to be strong, she told herself repeatedly.
"Yes, Gerry is so sensible. He’d be upset if he knew how worried you are." Ethan Martinez helped her sit down on a chair nearby. Seeing her calm down a bit, he finally relaxed. After finding a nurse to stay with her, he went to complete the procedures.
Ti passed slowly. The hours felt like years. Shirley Grant sat there in silence, her gaze fixed on the door of the Resuscitation Room.
After two full hours, the doors of the Resuscitation Room finally opened. "Doctor!" Shirley Grant rushed over imdiately, her eyes full of hope. "Doctor, how’s Gerry? He’s okay, right?" Her eyes were wide as she asked, yet large tears rolled down her cheeks.
Seeing this, Ethan Martinez imdiately went over to support her.
