He had too many questions in his mind, but there was no opportunity to voice them.
Watching the two of them leave, Molly Harguez was the first to snap back to reality and tugged at Mr. Mitchell’s arm.
"If this man is willing to marry Nia, wouldn’t we beco his in-laws?"
Molly Harguez’s eyes glead at the prospect, as if she had struck gold.
They would be rich then.
"Who can predict kids’ affairs?"
Mr. Mitchell replied irritably. With those words, he turned and left.
Molly Harguez froze for a mont before rolling her eyes at his departing figure.
Hasn’t Nia already climbed into his bed? As long as she gets pregnant with a son, she’ll definitely be able to marry into a wealthy family. Who knew this Nia Mitchell wasn’t a fool after all.
Nia Mitchell, however, was oblivious to Molly Harguez’s thoughts as the CEO led her away, an irrepressible sweet smile on her face.
"Uncle, how did you know I was here?"
She never would have dread that Maxwell Peary would descend as if from heaven. Who wouldn’t want a handso, wealthy man to rescue her from dire straits and be her Prince Charming?
Maxwell Peary led Nia by the hand out of the hospital, and they walked down the street.
"I received an alert about your card transaction."
Once he received the alert, a quick check was all it took to find out where the card had been used.
Nia paused. So that’s how he found out so easily.
Nia looked at Maxwell Peary with a bright smile. "So, if I hadn’t used my card, you wouldn’t have been able to find ?"
"Of course not."
He would use every ans necessary to find her, even in a vast sea of people.
Nia let the CEO lead her, keeping pace with him. "Where are we going now?"
Maxwell Peary replied, "There’s a hotel near the hospital. I’ve already booked a room there."
"Are you tired?"
Suddenly, a thought occurred to Maxwell Peary: She must have had a taxing day today.
Nia admitted with an embarrassed look, "A little." Actually, her feet had been hurting for a while.
"Let’s take a taxi then," Maxwell Peary imdiately suggested, raising his hand to hail one.
"No need."
Seeing this, Nia quickly reached out and took his arm. "Didn’t you say it wasn’t far?"
As she said this, Nia thought she could see a hotel just ahead. Uh... Could that be it? If they had actually taken a taxi, the driver would surely have thought they both had neurosis.
"But you’re tired."
Maxwell Peary sighed. Seeing her like this, he felt helpless against her stubbornness.
"It’s okay, it’s not far. Is that it over there? I can see it already."
Maxwell Peary looked in the direction Nia was pointing and confird that it was indeed the hotel.
"I’ll carry you on my back." Maxwell Peary hesitated for only a mont before saying this, already crouching down.
"No, no, no! I can walk myself."
Nia looked extrely embarrassed. This is Main Street! It would be too embarrassing for Uncle to carry .
"Get on."
Maxwell Peary repeated, his serious tone admitting no refusal.
Nia froze, standing rooted to the spot and biting her lip. "I can walk by myself."
What kind of person was Maxwell Peary? He stood at the pinnacle, always in the public eye; how could he stoop to carry her on his back?
"This is the last ti I’m saying it!"
Maxwell Peary remained insistent, still crouching there.
"I..." Nia’s face turned beet-red. Disregarding everything, she started walking straight ahead. "I don’t want to, I don’t want to, I don’t want to!"
