The man threatening Nia Mitchell clearly hadn’t expected her to struggle so fiercely without a second thought.
Unexpectedly, she managed to break free from his grip.
Nia Mitchell lunged forward, shoving aside the two people closest to her.
"Dad! Dad!"
Nia quickly crouched down. In just a few short minutes, her father’s face was already bruised, and who knew what other injuries he had sustained on his body.
"Don’t be scared."
Her father lifted his head. Seeing the enraged faces of their assailants, he quickly pulled Nia into his embrace and rolled over, shielding her with his own body.
In an instant, Nia was pinned tightly beneath her father.
"Keep hitting him!"
"No! Dad!"
Nia struggled desperately, but she couldn’t overco her father’s strength.
With her vision blurred by tears, she broke down completely. Powerless, Nia lay there, wailing uncontrollably, her face a mask of terror.
This disaster was her fault; all of this was happening because of her.
She was so scared, terrified that sothing would happen to her father.
The sounds of punches and kicks rained down. Her father remained silent throughout, his face drenched in sweat.
"AH!"
Suddenly, her father cried out in agony. The young n imdiately scattered, fleeing in four different directions with the money.
Not far away, a man on a motorcycle rode towards them. Witnessing the scene, he imdiately dismounted.
"What happened?"
The man’s face was etched with alarm.
Only then did Nia snap back to reality and quickly push her father off her.
"Dad! Dad! Are you all right?"
"Miss, don’t move him! Call an ambulance, quickly!" the man urged, clearly agitated. Seeing Nia’s dazed and distraught state, he took out his own phone to call the police.
Nia followed the stranger’s gaze and only then saw the dagger embedded in her father’s back.
"AHHH!!!"
Nia shrieked in terror, sitting frozen in fear as she stared at her unconscious father, unable to utter a single word.
「An hour later.」
Nia sat blankly inside the Police Bureau, not uttering a word, her eyes slightly bloodshot.
Opposite her, the newly appointed Police Station Chief watched her anxiously, a worried frown creasing his brow.

One could say he owed his new position as Police Station Chief to Nia Mitchell’s "blessing" today.

The Chief tried his best to coax her, sitting there patiently, but...
"Miss Mitchell, you need to cooperate with us."
The Chief sighed in frustration. Of the two people involved, one was sitting here, vacant-eyed and silent, while the other was in the Hospital’s Ergency Room.
"How about this, Miss Mitchell? We’ll take you to the Hospital in a police car, all right?"
Perhaps, at the Hospital, she might start speaking. After all, her younger brother is there.
Besides, at the Hospital, they could get imdiate updates on her father’s condition.
Given her current state, she probably needed dical attention herself.
When Nia Mitchell heard the word "Hospital," she lifted her head. Although her eyes remained vacant, it was the most significant reaction she had shown so far.
Seeing this, a relieved smile imdiately spread across the Chief’s face.
She absolutely must not co to any harm! he thought, a chill running down his spine as he recalled Young Master Peary’s thods...
