"Charles Northwood?"
Nia Mitchell broke down crying, mumbling his na over and over.
At that mont, Charles Northwood was out for a morning run. He halted when he received the call.
"What happened?"
Hearing Nia’s tearful voice, his brow furrowed instantly.
Did Maxwell Peary treat her badly?
"Don’t cry. Tell , what happened?" Charles Northwood urged, his voice laced with worry.
Hearing Charles Northwood’s anxious voice, Nia Mitchell began to cry even harder, her sobs becoming uncontrollable.
"Nia, please stop crying and talk to ."
He stood there, his expression dark, completely losing his usual gentle and refined composure.
"I’m in D City," Nia Mitchell finally managed to say.
Charles Northwood paused, surprised; he hadn’t expected her to return.
Hadn’t she said she would never return in this lifeti?
"Alright. What happened?"
"I’ve been threatened. Belinda Swan... I don’t know what tricks she pulled, but she pushed my younger brother off a school building! He was seriously injured and is in the hospital now. Then she hired four thugs to rob and my dad. Dad was stabbed trying to protect ... SOB... SOB..." Nia Mitchell sat on the ground, hugging her knees tightly, her whole body trembling.
Listening to Nia Mitchell, Charles Northwood imdiately hailed a cab heading back.
"Don’t be scared. I’m coming to D City right now to find you," Charles Northwood said at once.
Nia Mitchell shook her head, sobbing. "No need. We already decided yesterday. We’re transferring to Capital Town’s First People’s Hospital this morning."
Nia Mitchell quickly wiped away her tears.
Charles Northwood frowned. That would work too.
"Alright, I’ll et you there. Don’t worry. I’ll have a friend investigate Belinda Swan. She won’t be able to harm you again."
I definitely won’t let her hurt you again.
With that, Charles Northwood tightened his fists. He held back for a long ti, unable to voice the question on the tip of his tongue.
He really wanted to ask her where Maxwell Peary was at a ti like this. But... if sothing really had happened between them, asking now would only make Nia Mitchell feel worse. After all, her emotions were already incredibly unstable.
"Alright."
Nia Mitchell nodded, sitting there trembling, her eyes filled with tears, her face pale. Her cracked lips, under the light, looked distressingly chapped.
After hanging up, she just sat there, hugging her knees and weeping. She felt so useless. Even when she had gone with her father, she hadn’t been able to protect him. If her father hadn’t shielded her with his body, she would have been injured too. SOB... SOB... SOB...
「Capital Town—」
After Charles Northwood stepped out of the taxi, he imdiately made several calls.
"Investigate Belinda Swan. See what she’s up to now."
Once done, he sat down on the sofa, frowning.
Soon after, the phone rang again.
He listened to the report from the other side, his brows knotting deeper with every word.
"Yes, understood."
He responded and was about to hang up when the man on the other end of the line stopped him.
"When are you coming back?"
Charles Northwood paused.
"I have no plans to."
"But you are the heir to the Northwood family. You have to return. Or would you rather have everything that belongs to the Northwood family fall into soone else’s hands?"
Upon hearing this, Charles Northwood’s lips curled into a cynical smile. "Giving it to you wouldn’t be so bad. Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted?"
