Quite a few people disembarked one after another. Among them, a woman in her forties or fifties, her hair already graying, looked around and said urgently, "Didn't they say my daughter was here? Where is she? Why can't I see her?"
The others also began to press frantically.
"What's the hurry?!" a few drivers grumbled, gathering together. Their expressions were impatient, and their eyes glinted with malice. "Listen up, all of you! Pay the remaining balance now."
"How can we pay without seeing our people? What if you take the money and deny everything?"
"Hmph! If you don't trust us, then get lost!" one driver said. "But let remind you, this is a one-ti offer. Once your family mbers are sent to Yunng City, they'll never co out again."
"Alright, alright, we'll pay. Just please don't cheat us..."
These people had no choice but to take out their gold bars. The woman, too, was forced to comply. She had already sold all her family's possessions and borrowed a substantial sum just to gather enough gold. To do so, she had even stopped paying for her husband's serious dical treatnts, all in the hope of ransoming her child.
Only after collecting all the gold bars did the drivers finally smile in satisfaction. "Wait here. Soone will be out within half an hour at the latest."
Carrying the gold, they ducked into the woods and quickly disappeared from sight.
The people left behind saw that the cars were still there, so they figured it probably wasn't a scam. Besides, what could they do if it was? They had no other recourse. Their only option was to gamble.
Fortunately, a little over twenty minutes later, a group of young girls ran out, their faces etched with terror.
So were in ragged clothes, while others bore injuries. So were as thin as skeletons, and others had a dazed, vacant expression.
"Child!"
"Daughter!"
"Mom!"
"Dad!"
As the families t, they embraced one another excitedly, crying tears of joy.
Only the woman with the graying hair was left. She frantically scanned every girl's face, but her daughter was not among them.
"Where is my Li'er?!" she shrieked, grabbing a driver's arm.
With a cigarette dangling from his lips, the driver said impatiently, "You're a day too late. She's already been sold. Seems so young master in Yunng City took a liking to her and made her his slave girl. And listen, we agreed up front—your money is non-refundable."
"No, no! I want my daughter! I beg you, take to that young master! I'm willing to pay even more to ransom her..." The woman fell to her knees, kowtowing and begging desperately.
"Tch," the man sneered. "Do you even know what kind of place Yunng City is? You think a young master there is short on your pathetic amount of money? Enough. Once a woman enters Yunng City as a slave, none co out alive. Not even God himself could save them. Now, you can get lost!"
"Please, I beg you..."
Like a numb automaton, the woman continued to kowtow. She didn't even seem to notice as her head split open and fresh blood stread down her face.
The driver couldn't be bothered with her. He was about to get into his vehicle, but she lunged forward and clung to his leg, impossible to shake off.
"You damn jinx! Fuck off!" the driver snarled. He pulled out a club and began to rcilessly beat her over the head, bludgeoning her to death.
The others trembled in fear, like huddled quails.
Yet even in death, her grip on his leg did not loosen.
The driver cursed. Just as he was about to break her arm, a voice suddenly ca from the roof of the vehicle. "I admit, I don't know what kind of place Yunng City is. Could you explain it to in more detail?"
"Huh?" The driver looked up, furious. "Who the fuck are you, putting your filthy feet on my car? Get the hell down from there, or I'll blow your brains out!"
With that, he pulled out a handgun and aid it squarely at Lin Tang's forehead.
Lin Tang calmly stared down the barrel. "I don't believe you will."
"Then go to hell!" the driver sneered, pulling the trigger without hesitation.
In this place, human life was as worthless as weeds—to be killed at will.
