It was nearly eight o’clock by the ti everything was tidied up. An Ran still hadn’t gotten out of bed. Mu Xingfeng ca to the guest room and knocked on the door. When there was no response, he gently pushed the door open.
Sure enough, the little girl was deeply asleep, her head buried in the covers, not noticing soone had entered the room. Mu Xingfeng shook his head and smiled. She looked like a little pig.
Seeing her sleep so soundly, he didn’t have the heart to wake her. He turned to leave but suddenly heard the little girl whispering softly, "No..."
Mu Xingfeng stopped in his tracks and looked at the person on the bed. An Ran still had her eyes closed, as if she were dreaming. Her small, rosy mouth kept muttering, and her brows were furrowed.
Without hesitation, he walked over. As he got closer, he noticed that the little girl’s face was abnormally flushed, and her small mouth was still muttering, "No, don’t co, Grandma, Grandma..."
"An Ran, wake up," Mu Xingfeng gently patted An Ran’s little face. Her face was alarmingly hot to the touch. The little girl had a fever? And was clearly having a nightmare; he needed to wake her up first.
"Grandma, Grandma, save ..." The girl whimpered helplessly, her voice tinged with tears. Mu Xingfeng’s heart felt like it was being squeezed brutally.

"An Ran, it’s , Mu Xingfeng." Mu Xingfeng knew she was terrified and quickly spoke.
An Ran stared at Mu Xingfeng in a daze, her mind blank for a good half-minute before she suddenly threw her arms around him and burst into tears, wailing, "Mu Xingfeng~~."
The little girl trembled slightly, her soft, sweet voice laced with sobs as she called his na, lting Mu Xingfeng’s heart.
He really wanted ti to stop at that mont. The strength of the arms around his waist proved how much she depended on him right then. To have her let down her guard and rely on him was sothing he had longed for but never expected, and at that mont, he clearly felt the little girl had let go of all her defenses against him.
Mu Xingfeng extended his arms to hold her in front of him, lowered his head to kiss her long hair, a gentle tenderness appearing in his eyes.
He just wanted to hold her like this, but the little girl’s body temperature reminded him that she had a fever. Seeing her cry in fits and starts made Mu Xingfeng’s heart ache.
"Good girl, don’t be afraid, you were just dreaming, it’s all fake. Don’t cry." Mu Xingfeng gently comforted her, his voice incredibly tender.
An Ran nestled in Mu Xingfeng’s embrace, feeling the strong hug and listening to his steady, powerful heartbeat. Sohow, the intense fear and unease in her heart gradually subsided.
She hadn’t had that nightmare for a long ti. In the dream, she was left in a dark room, with moonlight shining through the large tree outside the window. The autumn wind blew, and the bare branches swayed gently on the ground.
A black cat walking at night leaped past the window, stepping on the tiles, creating a rustling sound.
That was the first year she was taken in by the An Family. Sun Xuehui often locked her in the attic, which was originally a storage room. The family’s conditions weren’t good at the ti, so there were no electric lights in the attic, and it was filled with rats. Three-year-old An Ran began to fear the dark from that ti, leading to endless nightmares.
An Ran nestled in Mu Xingfeng’s embrace and cried for a while. Then, as if rembering sothing, she pushed him away, lowered her little head, her small face flushed, whether from the fever or sothing else.
