The tal corridor had been ruined beyond recognition by the explosion, its floorboards twisted and warped upward. Only this vault door maintained its pristine, gleaming surface, without a single scratch left behind.
This alone proved the vault's exceptional durability. Old Ghost's eyes flickered. Scarlet veins bulged on the surface of his body as he suppressed his agony, rolling over to pick up the Diamond chanical Greatshield lying nearby.
"Co here..." he barked in a low voice as he turned around. He feared he wouldn't be able to handle the upcoming situation by himself.
Whether he liked it or not, he and Li Yu were now in the sa boat!
Li Yu tensed his leg muscles and reached Old Ghost's back in a split second. The older man's back heaved unevenly, the bat wings that had sprouted from his spine now slowly retracting back into the bloody fissures of his flesh.
Old Ghost slamd his hand onto a button on the Diamond chanical Greatshield with a heavy thud. Accompanied by a series of chanical clacking sounds, the gears turned, and the shield expanded to fully twice its original size.
Furthermore, two thick tal struts shot out and pierced ruthlessly into the tallic floor to anchor it in place.
"You know them?" Judging by Old Ghost's actions, it was obvious he expected the enemy to follow up with more attacks.
"If it's the two people I think it is..." Old Ghost muttered, his bloodshot eyes wide as he panted heavily. "Wait for a chance to fire. Just one bullet is all it takes to give us the upper hand."
Li Yu remained silent, offering no response. Growing anxious, Old Ghost peered through the tempered glass viewport of the shield to scout their surroundings while urging him on:
"This is no ti for us to be wary of each other..."
"Hahaha..." Accompanied by savage, manic laughter, two burly figures stomped up the stairs. Their radiating body heat was exceptionally distinct in the infrared spectrum.
"It really is them, the Drey Brothers." Old Ghost's expression darkened as he quickly gave Li Yu a brief introduction.
They were another black market organization on Heavenly Desolation Star, led by a pair of Matan Race brothers, though their status was nowhere near that of Thorn Fla.
The Drey Brothers made their living selling weapons. Usually, only major players handled this type of business.
But since they lacked the connections to acquire top-tier armants, they were stuck peddling kinetic chanical weapons, which made them quite unimpressive in the grand sche of things.
Li Yu nodded as Old Ghost continued in a hushed tone. "These two are obsessed with firepower. Their entire combat style relies on overwhelming their enemies with heavy artillery. Be careful."
"Aren't these the big shots of Thorn Fla? Why are you hiding like dead dogs..."
The brothers had imdiately checked the office and discovered the corpses of Taotie and Sister Yao, instantly putting them on high alert.
Staring at the diamond shield near the warehouse, they couldn't see exactly how many people were hiding behind it.
"Younger Brother, hand a few more electromagnetic oscillation grenades..."
The surrounding nerve gas had already begun to dissipate, allowing their appearances to beco faintly visible. They stood over two ters tall, their bulging muscles rippling beneath purple skin covered in intricate black tribal patterns.
Their heads were relatively flat and T-shaped, with incredibly narrow, elongated eyes.
"Elder Brother, you threw them all at once just now..." the Younger Brother replied, sounding sowhat helpless.
"Why didn't you bring more!" the other figure suddenly snapped, growing irritable.
"That was all our stock! I brought everything we had!"
The two argued relentlessly. They hadn't brought any lackeys with them. The most eye-catching thing about them was the thick tal ammunition belts slung across their bodies.
They each carried a vicious weapon over a ter long at their hips. Six tal barrels were bound together, fed by thumb-sized, orange-yellow bullet belts wrapped all around their torsos.
On their backs, they each carried a massive dark green cannon, giving them an incredibly nacing appearance.
"Forget it, let them taste the power of lead!" the Elder Brother abandoned the argunt. The two excitedly raised the weapons at their waists in unison.
Rat-tat-tat!
Accompanied by spitting tongues of fire, a tallic storm of bullets poured out, crashing into the Diamond chanical Greatshield.
"These two guys are completely unhinged!" Li Yu bellowed over the deafening roar into Old Ghost's ear.
Even though kinetic chanical weapons lacked raw stopping power, they made up for it in sheer volu. With this much suppressing fire, anyone who poked their head out would instantly be turned into a sieve.
This was primarily because the two of them hadn't yet reached a truly high power rating.
"I can fucking hear you..." Old Ghost glared at him angrily. He fiddled with the controls for a mont, and a small circular firing slit opened up on the Diamond chanical Greatshield.
A few stray bullets instantly zipped through the gap, but fortunately, Li Yu reacted fast enough to dodge.
"Hurry up and use your gun to take one out first..." Old Ghost urged. The shockwave from the previous fiery explosion had severely injured him. Coupled with the fact that he had forcefully fragnted his physical body earlier, he had very little combat strength left.
"What level of strength do those two have?" Li Yu asked.
"D-Class Lifeforms... about the sa as ... Hurry it up..." Old Ghost pressed impatiently.
"If we coordinate well enough, we might be able to take them down..." Li Yu estimated.
"You! I've been gravely injured and can't exert much power right now..." Old Ghost explained, forcing down his irritability. Halfway through his sentence, he suddenly seed to realize sothing, and his eyes bulged wide. "Are you out of bullets?!"
"Heh heh..." Li Yu offered a shy smile, looking sowhat embarrassed.
"You fucking... You fucking bastard, you're a... you're a..." Old Ghost's face flushed crimson with rage, the wounds on his back bleeding uncontrollably.
"Don't get mad just yet, at least don't die from a heart attack..." Li Yu consoled him. "Don't I still have this..."
He picked up the sniper rifle that the Purple Sniper had reford into and threaded the barrel through the firing slit.
Bang!
A muffled gunshot rang out. A purple energy shield flared to life around one of the Drey Brothers, stopping the spinning bullet in its tracks.
The brother glanced down and let out a savage sneer. Before he could even speak...
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Three more muffled shots echoed. The purple energy shield shattered instantly, and a spray of blood blossod across his chest.
The man's expression twisted in astonishnt as he staggered several steps back. However, he didn't fall. Instead, a blazing light erupted from his eyes.
"Why didn't you aim for his head?!" Old Ghost scolded, utterly frustrated that Li Yu had missed the mark.
"I did aim for the head, but there are too many incoming bullets! The trajectory shifted! Hitting him at all was already good enough..." Li Yu retorted in annoyance.
The Purple Sniper's firepower was no longer sufficient to instantly kill an opponent. The enemy was a D-Class Lifeform; their physical body was incredibly tough and difficult to pierce.
"Co out, you rats!" the Drey Brothers roared. The rotation of their gun barrels gradually whirred to a halt, leaving the ground completely carpeted in orange-yellow bullet casings.
The diamond shield was covered in deep craters, its chanical structure thoroughly ruined. Even so, it had stubbornly managed to block this wave of attacks.
"I'm your daddy..." Li Yu's response was simple and to the point.
"You're asking for death!" the Drey Brothers bellowed in fury. Reaching behind them, they hoisted their massive dark green cannons and mounted them directly onto their shoulders.
"Oh, fuck..." Li Yu's pupils shrank. This battered diamond shield absolutely wasn't going to hold up against that. Old Ghost clearly had the exact sa realization.
The two figures instantly dove in opposite directions. An artillery shell, trailing a crimson exhaust fla, slamd into the diamond shield. The resulting blinding explosion blew the battle-damaged barrier entirely to pieces.
