----------------------------------------------------------------

After Qual vanished, Shane still hadn't co back to his senses.

Those final words from the demon lingered like iron chains, coiling tightly around his heart, leaving him deeply unsettled.

Just as he had suspected before, his arrival in this world was definitely no coincidence.

[The Saint of the End]

That didn't sound like soone to be taken lightly.

Frieren's brows were tightly knit as well. She felt the sa unease as Shane—Qual had revealed sothing serious.

"[The Saint of the End· Tot]… a demon I've never heard of."

"Humans generally believe the Demon King and the Seven Sages of Destruction are the strongest demons. But in reality, the 'naless great demons' are even more dangerous. Because it ans they're deliberately hiding themselves… in other words, anyone who has seen them is already dead."

"If what Qual said is true, and that curse can take the lives of all humans in the world… then we can't ignore this. We have to inform everyone as soon as possible."

"Inform everyone?"

Fern looked at Frieren with concern. "Lady Frieren, if people learn that humanity will be wiped out in twenty years, the entire world will fall into chaos."

"… "

Hearing that, Frieren fell silent.

Public panic… that was indeed a problem.

"And besides, Lady Frieren, Mr. Shane… what if Qual said all that on purpose? What if his goal was to throw humanity into chaos? After all, he's been sealed for over seventy years—how could he know anything about the recent movents of demonkind?"

Frieren understood what Fern ant.

Until the truth was confird, this matter had to be handled carefully.

Demons were cunning.

Demon sages were even more so.

The information couldn't be fully trusted—but it couldn't be dismissed either.

She turned to Shane, wanting to hear his opinion. After all, he was now a Sage as well.

Faced with both their gazes, Shane pondered for a mont. Qual's warning was like 'Schrödinger's cat'—until the box was opened, no one could know whether it was true or false.

But—

"Instead of worrying about whether it's real or not… why don't we just find that demon saintess nad Tot and ask her directly?"

Frieren: "…"

Fern: "…"

The two mages exchanged a glance. Shane's words were… questionable—but unexpectedly reasonable.

Instead of guessing endlessly, why not just find the source and ask?

Besides, killing the one who cast the curse was the most effective way to lift it.

A faint smile curled at Frieren's lips.

As expected of Shane. His way of solving problems was always so simple and direct.

Fern looked at the two of them, their silent understanding… and found it hard to believe.

They had just casually decided on sothing like "defeating a naless great demon to save all of humanity," hadn't they?

"Then let's head to the Northern Plateau. Most demons hide there. We can search along the plateau all the way to the Demon King's Castle. No matter where she's hiding, we'll drag her out and question her."

Shane nodded, his gaze passing over the forest and stretching toward the distant north.

The forr Unified Empire was also located on the Northern Plateau.

Whether it was to find clues about the "Mad Sage Sharl" or to track down that so-called saintess and end the world-destroying curse… he had to go.

"But the Demon King's Castle is freezing cold… I really don't want to go…" Frieren shivered, muttering under her breath.

————

The carriage wheels creaked as they turned.

The three of them had caught a ride, sitting at the back among piles of straw.

Fern held a thick book titled History of Continental Magic, reading intently. This ti, the girl had finally learned her lesson.

anwhile, Shane and Frieren discussed the plan for their journey.

"The monsters on the Northern Plateau are different from what we usually encounter. That's the main base of demonkind—we need to be fully prepared."

Shane nodded.

No one understood that place better than Frieren. Naturally, he would follow her lead in planning.

"I'm thinking of inviting Eisen to join us as the vanguard. Other than that… we're still lacking a priest. Shane, are you really not considering training as one?"

"… "

Shane fell silent.

It wasn't that he resisted becoming a priest.

During the four years he lived with Heiter, they had discussed this topic in depth.

He simply didn't have much faith in the Goddess. Or rather, due to his past life's education and experiences, he had little interest in any religion.

After reading the records of the Goddess's miracles and blessings in the Scriptures, he had only one thought: exaggerated nonsense.

With that mindset, how could he possibly train as a priest?

The only reason he could cast Goddess's Barrier was because he possessed the corresponding attribute. Heiter had provided him with many texts and notes, but unfortunately, none of them led to the discovery of new attributes.

The two of them had speculated that perhaps one needed to encounter "research results not yet known to the world" for new attributes to erge.

Which coincidentally aligned with the nature of the Sage class.

Of course, they never had the chance to verify that theory.

Heiter had passed away.

"…Alright."

Seeing Shane's troubled expression, Frieren didn't press the matter further.

"In that case, let's go find Eisen first. If I rember correctly, he's living in seclusion sowhere in the Bredt Region…"

————

"Is this really the right path?"

Fern leaned on her staff, panting.

Shane wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked around at the indistinguishable forest.

The three of them had been wandering here for half a day already.

"I rember it being around here…"

"… "

Just as Shane was about to rely on his mysterious [Great Luck] again, Frieren, who was leading the way, suddenly let out an "Ah."

"This way, this way."

They turned over a hillside, and what ca into view was a wooden house half-buried in the slope. Its roof was covered in greenery, blending seamlessly with the hill. If not for the wooden door in front, it would have been impossible to tell soone lived beneath it.

Shane's first thought was of the "Hobbits" often seen in films.

Was this a typical dwarven style of living?

In front of the house—

A short figure in armor, draped in a red cloak, was kneeling on the ground, praying before two small graves.

It was Eisen.

Frieren walked over naturally. "Hey, Eisen. I ca to visit."

Eisen stopped praying and turned his head, looking sowhat speechless.

"That's not the attitude soone should have after not seeing for thirty years."

"It's only been thirty years."

Eisen chuckled. "I suppose that's true."

Before his words had even settled, he clenched his fist. Like a cannonball, he shot forward—straight toward Shane beside Frieren.

Boom—

A thunderous impact echoed through the forest.
