Xu Chunliang repeated what he just said.
i Ru Xue flared up: "You clearly promised, and today Dean Jin also assured that the wages owed to employees would be fully paid within two days."
"What’s a promise? Even the contracts we initially signed in black and white an nothing. You agreed to cooperate with Changxing on the property transfer procedures. Did you do it?"
i Ru Xue was stumped by his question and bit her lip: "Xu Chunliang, you can’t use this to blackmail the governnt!"
"i Ru Xue, don’t accuse . First, I’m not blackmailing you. Second, you can’t represent the governnt. If you think you can, then you should take charge for us at Changxing. Don’t be like Secretary Kong, lavishing gifts using Changxing’s resources."
i Ru Xue was completely infuriated by him and ignored the fact that there were others in the car: "Xu Chunliang, what you’re doing is highly irresponsible. Regardless of the reason, Changxing should not be withholding employees’ wages. You’re trying to achieve your goal this way, but it’s the ordinary employees who are getting hurt. This could lead to a major issue."
"You care about them being hurt, but have you cared about how we’re hurt? Since Changxing took over Weishan Island Hospital, how much have we invested? How much effort have we put in? Who will bear our losses? Town Mayor i, I’m only notifying you early because I’m concerned sothing might happen. Otherwise, I wouldn’t care."
The driver reminded i Ru Xue that they had arrived at the town governnt entrance. Initially, she planned to drop Xu Chunliang at the entrance of Weishan Island Hospital, but she was no longer in the mood. Coldly, she reminded, "Director Xu, you’ve arrived!"
Xu Chunliang laughed and said, "Thank you!" He got out of the car and watched as it drove into the town governnt compound.
The distance from the town governnt to Weishan Island Hospital wasn’t far, and Xu Chunliang walked back. After taking just a few steps, i Ru Xue called him.
"Director Xu, you’d better think carefully about the wage issue. The consequences might be unbearable for you."
Xu Chunliang replied, "Can Town Mayor i promise to help Changxing complete the property transfer procedures?"
i Ru Xue said, "I hate being blackmailed by others the most."
Xu Chunliang hung up the phone.
i Ru Xue was so angry she almost smashed her phone. This guy actually hung up on her after promising to resolve the hospital staff’s wage issue within two days and then going back on his word.
She took a deep breath, looked up at the starry night sky, and suddenly had a bad premonition. She imdiately contacted Kong Xiangsheng to inform him that Changxing refused to pay the overdue wages.
Kong Xiangsheng’s response was simple: let them make a fuss, and he would report the matter to the leaders. What Changxing was doing would be their downfall. Isn’t there a saying? ’No folly, no failure.’
He instructed i Ru Xue to notify the police station to keep the situation under control. When scholars et soldiers, words are useless. He doubted that a group of dical staff could cause much trouble.
He intended to et with county leaders the next day, leaving the town’s issues to her, emphasizing the need to stabilize the situation and prevent incidents. He promised to return quickly once things were settled, but in reality, he was evasive. If the situation hadn’t occurred, he might have returned; now, he couldn’t avoid it fast enough.
i Ru Xue regretted making the call. Kong Xiangsheng, upon learning the situation, chose to evade, leaving her to endure all the pressure.
As Xu Chunliang walked back, a man approached him, blocking his way: "Brother, can I borrow a light?"
"I don’t smoke!" Xu Chunliang sensed a sudden gust of wind behind him, and in a critical mont, he sidestepped using the Spiritual Snake Eight Steps to avoid the attack from behind smoothly.
A burly man, holding a brick, swung it straight at the back of Xu Chunliang’s head, seemingly about to hit the target, but Xu Chunliang’s figure suddenly vanished.
Due to inertia, the burly man couldn’t stop in ti, and the brick landed squarely on the face of the man asking for a light. Obviously, these two were in cahoots.
Bam!
Blood splattered, and the man asking for a light scread and fell to the ground.
The burly man stood there stupidly, holding the bloody brick, completely bewildered. He couldn’t figure out the situation. Where did the man go? How did I hit the wrong person?
Xu Chunliang stood three ters away, coldly watching them: "Quite a heavy hand, who sent you?"
The burly man roared and rushed at Xu Chunliang again, brick in hand. Just as he was about to reach Xu Chunliang, Xu Chunliang moved.
The burly man’s vision blurred as Xu Chunliang disappeared again, leaving only the crooked-neck willow tree behind him. He tried to stop but couldn’t, crashing headlong into the trunk.
Bang!
The impact made him see stars, disorienting him. The brick fell from his hand, landing on his foot, causing him to howl in pain and sit holding his right foot.
Xu Chunliang looked at the two fools and shook his head. They were so absurdly incompetent that they weren’t worth his effort.
With dical compassion, he called 110 to report the situation, saying that on his way ho, he encountered two brawny guys fighting fiercely, both ending up injured.
The police from the station arrived, first contacting the hospital to send the two over.
The one hit by the brick had a fractured cheekbone and moderate concussion.
The one swinging the brick didn’t fare any better, having practically ruined his own foot, sustaining a tatarsal fracture, facial trauma, and a nasal bone fracture.
When the police asked about the situation, neither admitted to fighting each other, claiming they were friends betting on who had a harder head. One picked up a brick to hit his face, the other ramd a tree with his head. In short, their injuries had nothing to do with anyone else.
Xu Chunliang didn’t report them for attacking him. No matter how foolish they were, they wouldn’t voluntarily admit to it. For now, being injured might just an so suffering, but if they revealed everything, they’d face legal consequences, possibly ending up in jail.
The police could tell it was likely a mutual fight, but since neither admitted it, they didn’t bother further, completing their report and leaving.
Yu Xiaofeng wasn’t on night duty but was called in for a consultation. As he helped treat the two, Xu Chunliang arrived.
The two idiots quickly turned their faces away at the sight of Xu Chunliang.
Yu Xiaofeng greeted, "Director Xu, sothing up?"
Xu Chunliang nodded, "They’re my friends, just ca to check on them."
"You should have said so earlier." Yu Xiaofeng implied that if Xu Chunliang had notified him earlier, he could have helped save so costs.
"Is it convenient for us to have a word alone?"
Yu Xiaofeng smiled, "Sure! I’ll go prepare the plaster."
The two chid in unison: "Inconvenient!"
Xu Chunliang said, "If it’s inconvenient for you, I’ll call the police over to chat with you."
The two instantly fell silent.
Yu Xiaofeng also sensed sothing shady and left with a smile after tidying up. Once he was gone, Xu Chunliang shut the door.
Seeing Xu Chunliang approaching, the two were terrified. The one wielding the brick said, "What... what do you want?"
The one who got hit trembled, "This is a hospital... don’t... don’t do anything rash..."
Xu Chunliang walked up to the brick-wielding guy, scrutinizing him, "Who sent you?"
"No... no one..."
"Not talking, huh!" Xu Chunliang grabbed his ear.
"Let go, let go, I’ll call for help..."
"Go ahead, call the police in and reveal the truth." Xu Chunliang twisted his ear, almost lifting him off the bed.
The brick-wielding guy grimaced, "Bro... I was wrong... I’m wrong... isn’t that enough... I just don’t like you... I swear no one instructed ... ow..."
Xu Chunliang pinched his injured foot, twisting his facial muscles in pain, "Let go... let go..."
Xu Chunliang said, "Not talking, huh? Let’s see how long you can hold out." He turned to the guy on the other bed who had been hit, "Don’t worry, you’ll get your turn soon."
The two prided themselves as tough guys locally, but never expected Xu Chunliang to be tougher. The brick-wielding one couldn’t withstand the tornt anymore and quivered, "I’ll talk... I’ll talk... It’s Zhang Haitao... It’s Zhang Haitao..."
Xu Chunliang chuckled, "Should have said it sooner." He released his grip.
Just then, Yu Xiaofeng returned, having heard their screams from afar.
Xu Chunliang told him, "My friends are in a bit of pain, please take good care of them."
"Rest assured, Director Xu!"
##
i Ru Xue’s worst fears ca true. Changxing Hospital didn’t pay wages within the promised tifra, and Weishan Island Branch’s employees could no longer endure repeated breaches.
i Ru Xue thought of Xu Chunliang’s smirking face and gritted her teeth in anger.
Faced with the situation, she had to contact the hospital. Complaints Director Li Yuliang had already inford Dean Jin Yonghao of Weishan Island Hospital to co and resolve the staff unrest imdiately.
