Chapter 34 — The Run Toward the Shrine

The barrier cracked like breaking glass across the storm.

Blue fractures spread everywhere while the Void Pursuer’s massive claw pushed deeper through the shield toward the terrified refugees behind us.

Projected Failure: 5 Seconds.

The bridge shook violently.

Knights shouted defensive orders.

Children scread.

And through all the chaos—

the network remained calm.

Cold.

Efficient.

New escape routes calculated. Recomnded survival strategy: Administrator relocation.

Translation?

Run.

Honestly insulting hearing life-threatening decisions phrased like navigation software.

I looked toward Lucien imdiately.

"When the barrier drops, move the refugees west as fast as possible."

The commander’s golden eyes sharpened.

"You’re seriously doing this."

"Yes."

"No."

Lucien stepped forward through the storm.

Golden divine energy erupted around him again while holy light reinforced the collapsing shield manually.

"I will not sacrifice you to buy ti."

That sentence hit unexpectedly hard.

Because honestly?

Most people in power absolutely would sacrifice the suspicious technology god if it saved civilians.

Interesting.

Also emotionally inconvenient.

The Void Pursuer smashed against the barrier again.

The entire structure scread with stress.

Projected Failure: 3 Seconds.

"We don’t have options!" I shouted back.

Blue static exploded around my arms while the authority reacted to rising danger.

"The thing only cares about the Technology authority!"

The phone instantly confird.

Hostile Pursuit Priority: Administrator-class signatures.

Lucien’s jaw tightened sharply.

He knew I was right.

Didn’t make accepting it easier.

Lyra suddenly appeared beside us, dragging her giant sword across shattered stone.

"So what’s the plan exactly?"

I pointed toward the western beacon glowing through the storm-covered forest.

"I lead them there."

The rcenary leader stared at blankly for two seconds.

Then burst out laughing.

Actual laughter.

"Your strategy is to sprint directly toward the ancient divine nightmare beacon?"

"...When you say it like that, it sounds worse."

"It sounds suicidal."

Fair.

Very fair.

The barrier shattered.

The Void Pursuer’s claw ripped through completely, erasing part of the bridge instantly into distorted black emptiness.

The refugees scread in panic.

But before the creature could reach them—

Lucien moved.

Golden light exploded outward across the storm.

The commander slamd his sword into the bridge itself, unleashing a massive wave of holy chains that wrapped around the Void Pursuer’s body from every direction.

This ti—

the creature actually stopped.

Barely.

Lucien coughed blood imdiately afterward.

"GO!"

No more hesitation.

I ran.

Blue static erupted around my body as I sprinted across the collapsing bridge toward the western road.

The mont I moved—

the Void Pursuer reacted instantly.

Its fractured white eyes locked directly onto .

Target reacquired.

Wonderful.

The creature let out another distorted scream before violently ripping apart Lucien’s holy chains.

Golden fragnts exploded across the storm.

Lucien got thrown backward again.

And then—

the monster chased .

The sky itself distorted behind it while the massive skeletal serpent launched away from the bridge with terrifying speed.

The remaining Void Pursuers followed imdiately.

Six cosmic horrors abandoning hundreds of refugees—

just to hunt .

Well.

That confird the theory aggressively.

"Kaiser!"

I glanced back once while sprinting down the rain-soaked forest road.

Elena stood at the edge of the bridge, silver divine energy swirling around her while the storm illuminated her worried expression.

The urge to stop almost overwheld briefly.

Then the first Void Pursuer slamd into the road behind .

Stone exploded upward.

No ti for emotional processing.

I ran harder.

The phone vibrated rapidly in my hand while blue symbols guided pathways through the dark forest ahead.

Optimal Route Generated.

Trees shattered behind as the Void Pursuers tore through the landscape effortlessly.

The ground shook with every movent.

Honestly?

Being hunted by civilization-eating cosmic predators was significantly worse than my average Tuesday.

The network responded instantly to rising danger.

Ergency Mobility Assistance Available.

Before I could even ask what that ant—

blue light exploded beneath my feet.

The road itself changed.

Glowing geotric patterns spread across the ground like illuminated circuitry, forming a straight pathway through the forest.

Then suddenly—

I accelerated.

Fast.

Way too fast.

The world blurred around while blue energy propelled my body forward unnaturally.

Holy crap.

I was basically riding technological magic infrastructure.

The phone displayed new information rapidly.

Temporary Mobility Construct Active.

Energy Consumption: Extre.

Worth it.

Absolutely worth it.

Behind , the Void Pursuers scread furiously while chasing through the storm.

The glowing pathway carried between trees faster than normal human movent should allow.

Branches exploded apart from shockwaves alone.

Rain beca horizontal streaks.

And sowhere deep inside my chest—

the authority felt exhilarated.

Not fear.

Montum.

Optimization.

The network loved movent toward objectives.

Nope.

Didn’t like how natural that sensation felt.

I forced myself to focus on human thoughts instead.

Mom.

Dad.

My sister yelling at for eating her snacks.

Anything ordinary.

Anything grounding.

The blue core pulsed softer afterward.

Interesting.

Maybe mories stabilized identity sohow.

The forest blurred endlessly around while thunder shook the mountains overhead.

Then suddenly—

the phone emitted a sharp warning tone.

Additional Hostile Signatures Approaching.

I looked upward instinctively.

Three more Void Pursuers descended through the clouds ahead of .

Oh co on.

The creatures moved to intercept my route directly.

Black skeletal bodies twisted through the storm while fractured white light illuminated the darkness around them.

The network instantly recalculated.

Survival Probability: 12%.

That was rude honestly.

The glowing pathway beneath my feet shifted direction sharply toward the west.

Toward the beacon.

Toward the shrine.

Toward deeper synchronization.

The authority already chose the only viable solution.

And horrifyingly—

I agreed.

The forest suddenly ended.

I burst into a massive clearing surrounded by ancient ruined stone pillars half-swallowed by moss and vines.

At the center—

stood the shrine.

Blue light erupted endlessly from the structure into the stormy sky above.

The mont I saw it—

the core inside my chest reacted violently.

Not pain.

Recognition.

The shrine resembled no temple I’d ever seen before.

Massive black tallic structures rose from the earth in geotric patterns unlike normal architecture.

Ancient glowing symbols covered every surface.

Machines and divine carvings blended together seamlessly.

Technology and godhood fused into one impossible design.

And standing at the center of it all—

was a gigantic circular structure resembling a broken gate.

The pathway.

Or part of it.

The phone vibrated heavily.

Primary Infrastructure Node Located.

Synchronization Recomnded.

The Void Pursuers burst from the forest behind monts later.

Trees exploded apart while six massive entities surrounded the clearing from every direction.

And above them—

the additional three descended from the storm clouds.

Nine total now.

Great.

Fantastic even.

The creatures circled the shrine silently.

Watching.

Waiting.

The blue gate behind pulsed softly.

The network whispered again.

Connect.

This ti the voice felt stronger.

Closer.

The shrine recognized completely now.

Blue symbols spread across the tallic ground beneath my feet automatically.

Administrator access confird.

The giant circular gate slowly began activating.

Energy surged across the clearing.

The Void Pursuers reacted instantly.

Every creature scread simultaneously.

The sound distorted reality hard enough to crack nearby stone pillars apart.

Warning: Pathway initialization attracting hostile escalation.

No kidding.

The monsters lunged together.

Nine Void Pursuers descended toward the shrine at once.

And for the first ti since arriving in this world—

I truly understood why the original Technology God built civilizations around these systems.

Because no individual god could survive this alone.

The network needed worlds connected together.

Shared defenses.

Shared power.

Shared survival.

Isolation ant extinction eventually.

The first Technology God wasn’t a conqueror.

He was humanity’s desperate engineer.

The Void Pursuers reached the shrine.

And instinct finally overtook hesitation.

I slamd my hand against the glowing gate behind .

Blue light exploded across the world.

Synchronization accelerating. Administrator authority expanding.

The shrine awakened completely.

And sowhere far beyond the storm—

other ancient nodes answered.
