Sylas had asked this question for a very specific reason. Even as he listened, the gears in his head were churning. And as expected, the answer he received was about what he anticipated.
[King Serpent's Ancestral Call] was an odd reward. It was technically a Template, though not quite that. It allowed him to call on an Ancestor of the World Serpent, using its Call to unearth the potential of one Contract.
The World Serpent was a creature capable of deducing the core anings of a world and using that as a thod of strengthening and empowering itself.
The Ancestral Call was an ability of the World Serpent to call upon its Ancestors, using this gift to deduce worlds and comprehend their potential for itself.
No wonder...
It seed this was related to how the King Serpent had beco a Sacred Beast. By all rights, there should probably be very few—if any—Sacred Beasts at all in existence right now.
The Hollow Wing didn't truly count. By the little girl's definition, while it was a Sacred Beast, it wasn't a Legendary Sacred Beast. And it was also a Combat Mount. Its power was directly tied to Sylas.
A stronger Combat Mount generally just ant it could boost Sylas' stats more. Though, the Hollow Wing also had exceptionally powerful Skills as well—Skills Sylas was very much looking forward to seeing evolve once it reached the E-tier. Considering it was in the Hibernation Realm right now, it almost certainly had already. The rightful source is novel(ꜰ)ire
This was all to say that the World Serpent was truly worthy of being a creature of legend. Because the King Serpent had this ability awakened at birth, even if it was born with inferior talent, it was able to instantly beco a Sacred Beast.
Now, Sylas had been given this chance as a one-ti use.
The obvious choice was Gogo. Gogo was a Legendary Beast now, and though Sylas had unearthed a great deal of his potential, there was still more work to do.
Every breakthrough would be harder to gain now, especially since Beasts grew slower than Humanoids. The only good news was that Sylas had made Gogo an Overlord Race mber, so they could just ill their way to leveling up for the most part.
However, Sylas paused at this thought.
Sothing was telling him he shouldn't. Relying on a Skill of a World Serpent to try and elevate a Basilisk...
No. It would work, but Gogo would never be able to reach his truest potential. However, if I use it on Nosphaleen...
Nosphaleen's lineage was that of a Gold Beast. This was a true Gold Beast, so she wouldn't be nearly as powerful as Gogo if Sylas turned the latter into a Sacred Beast while he had been a Gold Beast. However, Nosphaleen just might touch onto the faintest barriers of an A-Grade Race if Sylas did this.
In addition, Nosphaleen needed this far more than Gogo did. Nosphaleen was a Humanoid originally. There were many things in her foundation that clashed with her sryx Lineage. There was only so much Sylas could do about that on his own.
If he took this route, though...
Sylas had already made his decision. He summoned Nosphaleen, and before she could say the respectful words she had on the tip of her tongue, he activated the Skill Template.
When he did so, Sylas truly hadn't known what to expect. But it was an experience he would never forget in his lifeti.
Sylas had never seen an S-tier Existence—he didn't even know how to fathom such a thing. The closest he had been was when he faced Arcane Madness. Even until now, that Serpentes still felt like it was on a level he couldn't comprehend.
Even so, the Arcane Madness of back then had been a re F-tier, and its stats were only in the five digits on Earth—sothing that would amount to only double digits here. But this...
Large didn't even seem to cut it. The eye Sylas saw alone seed to dwarf even stars, a creature so enormous it practically projected a sense of almightiness and inevitability from this singular feature alone.
Sylas couldn't fathom it, and his mind couldn't even wrap around how he could perceive such a large thing in a territory with such limited space. It was almost as though even in a confined region, the Will of the World Serpent was such that he had no choice but to. And then it roared.
It was as loud as it was large, and much like its incomprehensible size, its voice didn't make sense either. Sylas was sure the roar wasn't real—there was no creature here, no reality it strapped onto, and no world it worked upon.
Insofar as it was affecting anything, it was Nosphaleen's body alone, and the shuddering weight of what she was undergoing painted enough of an obvious picture that that was true.
Yet none of that stopped Sylas' eardrums from bursting, his stomach overturning, and his body threatening to collapse from the inside out.
It was almost a mistake that he was standing here unprotected at all, but he simply refused to take even a quarter of a step back, refusing to give an inch.
He would lose to no Will.
Not even to an S-tier.
Not when he was Infinite.
The world went black, but he never swayed, he never bent, he never fell.
When he ca back to, his body was laying on thighs as soft as clouds and skin as smooth as a swan's feathers.
He saw Nosphaleen looking down at him from above, a look of worry and yet odd confidence on her face, as though she was both worried he was hard and yet confident he never truly could be at the sa ti.
A Goddess.
That was Sylas' first thought when he laid eyes on the new Nosphaleen. She was too perfect, too tempting.
But just as quickly, he regained his lost focus.
Only for her changes to leave him in silence once again.
